• What do you imagine when told to picture hell. Some place thousands of feet underground, with flames and malted rock spewing everywhere? But maybe this place could be different form what you may think. It could be a test of physical and mental well being; a place to complete dreadful challenges in order to survive.
For a birthday present for a father who was turning fifty the family decided to go to Orlando Florida. The family consisted of a mother, father, and three sons. One eldest, a youngest, and one in between in age. The entire group got in their car to set off to the airport. In the car ride there was the occasional fighting between one another (just like any other family). Finally the fight died down and the ride was quiet and pleasant to the airport.
When they got to the airport it was that same annoying wait through security. The baggage check, the bin you have to empty you pockets in, take off your shoes and any other metal items you may carry. The wait that in your head you think “I just want to leave already!” Finally at the gate the call for boarding is announced by the man or women who announces the plane is boarding, or the plane is delayed (the person you don’t care what his or her name is). The doors open to the plane the people flood on to the plane and take a seat. The wait as the car pushes the plane into position, and then the plane builds up speed and takes off, rising higher and higher into the air every passing second.
Outside the window the view looks like a little kids play town. As the plane rises even higher above the clouds no ground is visible. The plane keeps going straight and the adrenalin makes you keep questioning “are we there yet?” “Are we there yet?” After that period of time the pilot announces that you are over your said destination and will be landing in a couple of minutes. The plane starts to descend and you start to see the ground. The runway at the airport gets nearer and nearer and the wheels extend out to touch the ground. The ground goes flying by at speeds of around 120 miles per hour. The fasten seat belt goes off and the people start to exit the plane. The family of five gets out and they take their rent a car to their hotel.
The hotel is lavish. The front has a waterfall, and graceful palm trees on the property. Inside there is a sit down restaurant and a candy town sculpted by the chefs. The entire weeklong trip is spent with spending time in the parks of Disney World. After the week is spent, it is time to go back. On the news the weatherman was saying about how there was a huge storm for almost all of the east coast. Despite that fact, the family went to catch the plane back to their home.
At the airport the man at the airport desk said the plane was delayed. Anger and worry spread throughout the family. Giving one another looks of what the hell should we do now? As a resolution they had to take a plane to another section of Florida. Next from there, they would go to Maryland. Last, the airport paid for a hotel for them by giving them a distressed traveler pass (and they sure were distressed). They would stay there over night and catch there plane the at five o’clock in the morning. They got on the plane, arrived, took another plane to Maryland successfully, and last, had to wait at the airport for a van to take them to their hotel in Maryland.
Waiting at the airport was tiresome. Also it was challenging with the great transition of warm weather to freezing temperature, and snow and ice covered ground. While the wait the youngest son was complaining about a headache. The pain was throbbing in his temples. The bus finally arrived and they got their luggage on the van. The ride was fairly short and they arrived at the hotel in a matter of minutes.
The hotel was well designed. A fireplace in the center, a flat screen television, and a nice couch with a colorful floral pattern. This was quite satisfying to the family. They checked the time and it was one o’clock in the morning. Only four hours of sleep, (not enough for the hearts content). But nonetheless they got those beautiful and peaceful hours of sleep.
Far away from their dreadful troubles; into a state of sub-conscious in their mind. They awoke in the four hours.
They waited their minute or so and the van arrived on time. They got on with their luggage and drove off to the airport. Since it was so early the ride was shrouded in the haze of the night. They arrived at the hotel in ten or twenty minutes and went through the airport security as always and then sat at their gate. The Flight was scheduled for the plane to arrive at six thirty. A few minutes prior to the plane arriving the lady announces the plane is delayed dew to air traffic (for who wants to deal with that. They have enough of traffic on the highway). Then the same thing, it was delayed again. After the third delay the plane finally arrives. The passengers board in order (the same routine every time), finally everyone boards and then the takeoff.
The plane rises up on a slant, and then levels out. Traveling along what seems like a straight path. The only thing to waste time is to observe out your window, listen to your Ipod (If you have one). Maybe even bother surrounding people. Who cares, (well only the people who you bother). Out side the window is black, the only light from towns below. But eventually even those light disappear into blackness as the plane travels further. Soon the plane ride comes to an end, and the plane starts to descend. After the ten minutes or so pass the plane is over the runway and ready to land. It lands with out trouble and the plane comes to a complete stop. The people walk out and finally back at home. The day of stress comes to a close.
In the end, the strength of a family can help prevent the day from becoming a hell of hatred and misery.
