• Chapter Fourteen: Discovery
“Big sis! Big sis! Come quick! Lola’s gone! Some lady came and took her away! Big sis where are you!” Carmela was running frantically trying to find Shadowpaw to tell her the news.
“Carma I’m right here! Who took Lola again?” Shadowpaw called her Carma, short for her name and ironic to how she always gets in trouble.
“I don’t know, but her eyes were scary.”
“Wha… what color were the scary ladies eyes Carma?” Shadowpaw was suddenly understanding the severity of the situation.
“They were red, and they were scary. Where’s Lola sis, and why did the lady hurt her? I want her to come back.” Carmela was looking up at Shadowpaw, looking at the horror on her face. “Is Lola going to be okay? We should tell brother.”
“No. No, we shouldn’t tell Kino, I’ll tell him. I don’t want you to see him when he finds out. But first lets go tell daddy, okay? Daddy would want to know, is that okay?”
“Okay, but you let me tell daddy, you go tell brother.” Carmela ran off the find Bloodfang and Heartfall while Shadowpaw was left to find Kino, who had just returned from his little trip and was on the look out for Lola. Shadowpaw found him just before he was about to look at the waterfall for Lola.
“Kino, I have some bad news for you.”
“Not now, I have to find Lola and tell her I’m back… wait. Bad news? Is this something that can wait or does this need to be taken care of immediately?” Kino looked at Shadowpaw’s expression, catching on to the fact that he wouldn’t like it. “Shadowpaw, what is it? What happened? Does this have anything to do with Lola? And where is she? ... Shadowpaw, what is it?” Kino walked towards her, a face of fear. Shadowpaw swallowed and began to speak with a weak voice.
    “It’s… about Lola. She… she’s been taken.”
“Taken! By whom? Tell me!” Kino had Shadowpaw by her arms his face in hers, searching for the answer in her eyes. He found it. “No, not Nosaka. Is it? Oh god, I have to find them.” Kino let go of her arms, about to dash in the other direction. Shadowpaw grabbed him before he got too far and jerked him back.
“It’s been about an hour now, Kino. They’re too far ahead. You’ll never find them. You’re just going to have to wait and let Dad figure this out. Besides, think about your little sister, what would she do if she lost both Lola and you? You know she only looks up to the two of you, if both of you are gone than she’ll just end up like Nosaka.”
“Fine, but only because it would make her happy.” Shadowpaw let go of his arm, and he fell to the ground, holding his face in his hands shaking it back and forth.
“You’re doing this for Lola, not Carma, aren’t you?” Kino shook his head and Shadowpaw was on her way to see how Carmela was holding up. She couldn’t help but think, what went wrong? How did this happen? I thought she knew how to fight back? This doesn’t make sense, and why would Nosaka leave Carma without harming her? Its not like her, she’s changed. I hope she hasn’t made any friends; that would make things very complicated.
    Unfortunately, she was right.
