• Chapter 4

    “No”

    “Oh come on.”

    “No.”

    “We just can’t…”

    “I said NO!”

I knew this was coming. Even my teacher is against it. He said something about boom boom which I wasn’t quite sure what he meant by. I had a back up plan incase just normally explaining the situation wouldn’t work.

“Fine,” I crossed my arms in anger.

“Good now we both understand each other.”

Ok, so reverse psychology didn’t work.

“No we don’t. I don’t see what’s the trouble of bringing her along. I’ll sit next to the driver or even on top of the couch. We’ll have room either way.”

“Look. As much as we would like to take her, our expenses only cover for just the five of us.”

“Then she can have my expenses. It’s only a day.”

“No that’s where you’re wrong. It’s the entire trip to Tirna.”

“What?! Ugh,” I had to think quickly, “What if you used my portion for her?”

    “Then you’d starve.”

“I’ve starved for eight months. I’m pretty sure I can last at least a week.” I was getting close to shouting.

The four of them seem to draw back. I was being stubborn and didn’t care. I didn’t want to leave her here by herself, especially if she traveled back home by herself. It bothered me and I didn’t want the guilt of one day hearing that she had pasted away in a horrible death……..like……..my family.

I let my composure fall after my thought. My family, that was all I could think of now. My fist clenched tightly, and my head drifted downwards. Why did they have to leave me? We were happy. Mom……Dad………….everyone. Why has fate given me a scar I can’t heal? My fist clenched tighter making some parts of my hand go white. Now more then ever I couldn’t stand the thought of being alone with no one else to turn to whether if it was me or someone else.

“Bou,” I looked up to see my teacher. I didn’t notice that I had tears sliding down my cheek. “We’ll do what we can, but promise me you won’t go and do something stupid. She’ll be in your care.” He spoke to me softly. I felt a bit of relief and soon dried my tears on my sleeve.

    “I promise.”

“Well Dinner’s ready why don’t we get something to eat then we can call it a night.”

I nodded and the strode over to the door of the Inn. I didn’t want her to see me like this so I waited a few bits breathing calming. The door would push open. She had been standing where I had told her to stand. I thought it was a good idea to not have her in the conversation.

    “Everything’s……”

She was looking at me with big teary eyes.

“Um what’s the matter?” I was a bit confused.

Her voice was shaky as she tried to speak. “Y-y-y-you went through all that trouble just to help me.”

“Uhhh…” I realized that I had been arguing with the four for about an hour and I
realized that she was watching through the window the entire time. I didn’t want her to be sobbing when we went inside so I tried to cheer her up. “Everything’s fine now, so don’t worry ok? I said I’d get you home right?”

She nodded and wiped her tears. I gave a breathe of relief.

“Come on. We’re just about to have dinner.”

I walked inside and she followed……rather closely. There was a small number of people here staring at her. One of the judges came over and told me that the rooms have been rearranged but what he told me was something I was not expecting.

“She’s going to sleep in the same bed as me?”

“Its to lower the cost of have to put in another bed.”

I wanted to protest but I decided against it. We would be tight on money so anything to reduce costs would be a big help. Besides I could just sleep on the cold hard floor. Great.

I didn’t want any more surprises so I rushed into the dining area. I quickly found my teacher at a table with the other judge. Once we sat down, I started to wonder why I never learned his name. Then I realized that I never learned her name. But my teacher was way a head of me.

    “So miss what’s your name?”

She seem to hesitate but answered. “Luna.” My teacher looked at me. He seemed to recognize the same thing I did: the voice.

The rest of the party joined us at the table and just in time for the food. Now it was chow time, or rather chow on anything your utensils could get a hold of. The four ate liked they went without a single piece of bread for a year. I had to dive in myself just so I could get a good amount of food.

I noticed that Luna didn’t get a single drop of food on her plate. It would figure with these people eating like pigs.

“Here, why don’t you take some of mine?”

She looked at me with gratitude and took half of my food. We all filled our stomachs to the best. I was eating rather slowly.

“Well we’re going to head off to bed,” My teacher wiped his mouth cleaned with a napkin. The judges had already left with there “excuse me,” leaving my teacher last to leave. The only ones left were Luna and me.

There was an awkward silence before her stomach cut me off from starting a conversation.

“Eat the rest of my dinner till you’re full. Don’t worry about me.” I chuckled. She was like a child almost. Then again she’s probably one of those spoiled rich girls seeing how her dress is.

    “But….”

I smiled. “Don’t worry, I’ll just have a big breakfast tomorrow.”

She nodded and soon finished my plate with a bit left for me. It was good enough so my stomach wouldn’t keep me awake all night.

Once we were both finished, I led her to the room we were staying.

“U-u-u-um are we really going to sleep in the same bed?” She said rather nervously as we entered the room.

“Hmm? Oh no. You’re sleeping on the bed,” I spoke somewhat quietly as to not wake the snoring teacher.

“Where are you sleeping?” She seemed to take notice since she spoke quietly also.

“There,” I pointed to the ground.

She looked a bit alarmed and her cheeks gave a nice color as she spoke,

“W-w-we can s-s-sleep together if you w-w-want to.”

“No that’s alright. I’m pretty sure if we did that both of us would be busy thinking about what’s touching what.” She seemed relieved as I was to.

I walked over and grabbed a pillow off of the bed. I let it plop onto the ground and pulled a bit of the blanket over so that I wouldn’t freeze to death during the night. “I hope you don’t mind sleeping near the side of the bed.”

She shook her head. I looked at her noticing that she was heading towards an unfamiliar luggage. It was a rather small one. The bag clicked open as she pulled out what looked like a nightgown. That’s when she started to strip. I quickly turned my face into the pillow. “Geez you should warn a person before you do that.” I spoke under my breathe.

Now in her new attire she jumped into bed and curled up under the blanket. “You know you never told me your name.” It seemed she was getting more comfortable around me.

    “Bou”

“I’ve never heard that name before.”

“Then I guess that makes you lucky.”

    “How so?”

“Hmmm I don’t know. It just does, I guess.”

    “Oh”

A moment of silence would pass.

    “Bou?”

    “Yeah?”

“Why are you going to Tirna?”

“Because of the contest I’m in.”

    “Oh that contest.”

    “Mhmm”

“Wouldn’t it be great if you met the princess?”

“Don’t know,” I shrugged a bit. “I’d have to get to know her first.”

“What if she was someone like me?”

“Hmm ask me that later” I was getting tired and wanted to sleep.

Just when I though I was going to sleep, her voice came again.

    “Bou?”

    “Yeah?”

    “Thank you.”

I smiled a bit. “Go to sleep,” I spoke softly and tiredly. “Tomorrow’s gonna be a long day.”

    “Ok.”

    All right time to sleep.

    “Bou?”

    Or not.

    “Yeah?”

“Will you show me what you’re talent is tomorrow?”

    I yawned. “Yeah sure”

She seemed happy to hear that.

    “Goodnight Bou.”

    “Goodnight Luna.”

    Finally, sleep.
