Description:
A witch is burned at the stake. Ashes and skulls of former victims lie at her feet where she will soon join them. Crows await a feast of burned flesh.
It was believed that a witch's power could be nullified by destroying her blood in a fire. The witch was strangled first, and then her corpse-sometimes her unconscious or semiconscious body-was tied to a stake or dumped into a tar barrel and set afire. If the witch was not dead and managed to get out of the flames, onlookers shoved her back in. - Date: 10/31/2010
