This is the One-Tailed raccoon demon, Shukaku, as seen in Gaara's nightmares. When fully released, it easily towers over trees and buildings.
The back-story:
This demon was sealed inside Gaara at his birth by his own father, in the hopes that he would become a powerful weapon to wield, and required the life of his mother to perform the ceremony.
