The stream quivered and shook roughly down its worn out path. In the middle a large rock peaked from under the waves, its top completely dry while its bottom heavily torn by the water. It was about five feet from one shoreline, and about 6 feet from the other. It looked impossable for anyone to be able to reach that rock, even from a running start. But even so, there was a small boy child resting upon that very rock. His fingers waved before him, twisting an turning almost like the water that surrounded him. And in fact the water did move like his fingers, almost as if his hand was controling the very motion of the stream. Small bubbles and ripples echoed in reply to his movements, each stronger than the next. Untill finally a whole ball, almost the size of his face, pulled itself from the moving current. Its shape was perfect and looked as smooth as glass. With a grin the boy motioned the ball toward him, and it came. Slowly bobbing its way to him, loosing small droplits as it traveled threw the air. The boy let out a long sigh as a stong wind took to the trees, forcing his water ball some ways away from him.

Clip clop. Clip clop.

The thump of the horses hooves as they hit the ground with each bouncy step and the gentle music of the birds' chirp were the only sounds the rider heard as the pair trotted through a large, grassy field. A strong breeze blew from the east, causing the grass to sway and carrying the teen-aged girl's long, black hair with it, only stopped from being swept away by the root's attachment to her head. The girl rode bareback, with only a halter and two ropes tied on either side to control her horse; she was quite a skilled rider, as one might guess. The black mare slowed to a walk and then a stop with a gentle tug and a soothing 'whoa' from her rider, whom was now gazing around the field with a small smile upon her lips. "Perfect..." She whispered with she slid off her horse's back. She ran a hand over the mare's neck and removed the halter. She placed it carelessly on the ground and moved slightly away from her horse -- who now grazed on the grass -- and to the center of the field. She lifted her arm slowly, palm toward the sky, and seemed to concentrate hard on something for a moment before a small flame appeared in the center of her palm and then flickered and died. She frowned and concentrated harder, and then it reappeared and stayed. She smiled her satisfaction and began to move her fingures, the flame responded by moving in a slow circle around her palm that gradually sped up.

He then began to pluck his fingers as though stinging a guitar. This caused the water ball to turn into a wavy stream, almost like silk in the air. This long thread of water refected the tiny rays of light that managed to peek threw the leaves in the canopy. Those tiny rays flickered light along the boys face, they danced along his clothes and off into the stream around him. "Wizen!" A voice screamed, and almost instantly the water he had been controling fell as his concentration broke. Half of the water landed onto the rock where he was perched, the other spashed back into the moving stream vanishing quickly into its self. The boy frowned sadly down at the damp rock, "Wizen!" The voice cried again, "Wizen!" His eyes darted back behind him, if he tried he could imagine seeing threw the trees to where his mother screamed with her hands cupped over her mouth, as she always did. "Wizen!" Another cry rose from above the trees, this time louder than the rest, "Wizen, you get over here now!"

The girl then lifted her free hand to rest above the flame and began to move it in small circles, following the movements of the small ball of fire. Her brow furrowed in concentration and the small flame began to change shape. Wings and a tail began to emerge from the ball, followed by four legs and a neck. It was a disfigured dragon, but its species could still be made out. Its little wings flapped unevenly as it flew in a small circle, but the black haired girl concentrated harder to make them flap simultaneously. She smiled a small, pleased smile and moved her lips closer to her hand, then blew softly toward the dragon. The gust of breath caused the flaming figure to fly from her hand and into the free air, where it eventually extinguished. She smiled and turned toward her horse, an excited gleam in her deep brown eyes. "Did ya see that, Magic?" She exclaimed while walking over to the black mare. "I finally made the dragon!" She bent down to pick up the discarded halter and moved closer to the right side of Magic, then slid it smoothly over her nose. "We better get back, before Mother gets angry." She said softly, and gazed around the field once more as if reluctant to leave. With a sigh she pulled herself up gracefully to rest just behind the mare's withers, then made a clucking sound with her tounge and nudged Magic's sides to push her into a walk, trot, and then a loping canter. She led them back to her family's farm were a number of other quarter horses reside, though most are in the pastures right now.

With a barking sigh the boy rose to his feet. He rolled his eyes as he heard his mother yell another lash of words that ended in his name. He brought his hand to pinch his bottom lip, making it sort of into an O shape. Then he breathed in as hard as he could threw the small opening, this forced a sharp TWEEEET out into the air. He sucked until his lungs were out, then took a small gasp for another echoing whistle. He hoped this would quiet the women till he reached home, sometimes she got impatient and continued screaming even after he was in view. Wizen still stood on his rock, but seemed to teeter on the edge still wondering if he should leave.

Magic's head lifted and her ears perked up at the sound of a loud whistle, and the girl turned her head toward the sharp sound. It had startled her out of her train of thought, but she soon forgot about it. She figured it was just some type of bird hidden within the trees' branches, and she wasn't an animal expert so she wouldn't know the difference. She gazed back infront of her to see that the barn was near. She smiled and leaned forward slightly, urging Magic to go faster into a gallop. They were headed straight toward the closed pasture gate, but she didn't slow her horse down. "Come on, you can do it." She whispered in Magic's ears as they thundered through the remaining field. When they grew near enough, she felt the mare's front half lift up, quickly followed by her back. They were suspended in mid-air for only a matter of seconds before Magic's strong front legs hit the ground on the other side of the gate and into the pasture. They galloped a few more feet before slowing to a stop, then she slid off Magic's back and removed the halter. She left Magic to her grazing, placed the halter where it belongs, and walked inside her small home to be greeted by her Mother's frown. "Sorry, Mo-" She was going to apologize for being out so long, but was interuppted by her Mother's voice. "How many times do I have to tell you not to jump the pasture gate?" Said Mother, her hands on her hips. "Now, go buy some milk for supper." She took the money handed to her with a muttered 'Yes, Mother', and turned to head back out the door. She ran down the dirt path that lead to her house and onto the dirt road, where she continued to run toward the town's dairy.

"Wizen!" His mothers voice echoed again, and this time it struck a cord in him. Wizen was suddenly annoyed, and he replyed with three deafening whistles. Jumping forward the second his hand left his lips, he looked to be landing square in the water. But instead of sending a spray of crystal splashes out and about, underneath Wizen's feet was like solid glass. Around his shoes the mirror image was cracked from the weight of his jump, of course this material was ice. The frozen form of water, one of Wizen's many special talents. It had taken many months for him to be able to freeze water with out moving his hands. But with hard work and determination, Wizen was proud to admit he could walk on water. He ran with a smile as he passed bushes and trees, pushing away moss covered branches and shoving thickets to the side. His feet cracked twigs beneath them, shuffling gravel and leaving their thick prints in the mud. It was suprising that there wasnt a worn out path leading from Wizen's house to the stream, seeing how he used it so often. He pumped his legs as hard as he could, feeling the muscles in his legs tighten and strain. He could hear himself crash threw the trees, Like water, he thought, Just like a river, and he ran even faster still. His house was located just past the dirt road and over three fences.

She turned her head sharply toward three more of the same whistling sound she had heard earlier, out of instinct. She tripped over a loose stone and was scent falling toward the earth to land on her hands and knees. "Oof..." She muttered and stood up quickly, her Mother would be angry if she took too long. I'm so clumsy. She thought as she brushed off her simple blue dress and wiped away a few drops of blood from a scrape in her knee with slight annoyance, and then set off at a brisk walk which quickly sped up to a run. The money is clenched tightly in her fist, for she knew her Mother would be more angry still if she lost it. Her family wasn't rich, and they needed every penny. She could see the dairy ahead, and she sped up her pace even more. "Why, hello Liz-" The shopkeep started when Lizzy entered, but she cut him off. "A bottle of milk, please." She said between panting breaths of air. She gave him the money, took the bottle, and ran out the store and back toward her house. She was out of breath, but that didn't stop her.

Wizen's eyes caught sight of the top of an old willow tree, it was a huge one that ran its roots durrectly next to the dirt road. Even the ground was upturned in a slant where it was growing, turning the feild into a small but steep hill. Where kids would take their bicycles and coast to a stop at the bottom after an exiting half-drop. Wizen broke threw the edge of the forest, blasting out of the green wall and infront of the old willow. It was still about fifteen feet infront of him but Wizen could now feel the ground curve under his feet. Three more steps and Wizen leaned forward, shoving off the upturned ground to keep his balance. With out of breath grunts Wizen managed to make his way up the hill and next to the tree. Usually, he was just run around the hill, and now this extra effort made him even more out of breath. Wizen was hunched over with one hand on the tree and gasped loudly. The muscles in his legs burned slightly with the sudden stop of their use, but he just bit his lip.

Lizzy reached the front door of her house and paused a minute to catch her breath. She opened the door with a fake smile on her face and called out a cheery, "Here you go, Mother." The reply she got wasn't one she wanted. She was told to go shuck the corn, so back outside she went with the bowl of a dozen or so corn cobs. She plopped herself down on the grass and began peeling the green away from the yellow; an annoyed, tired look in her eyes. The shucks would be fed to the horses after she was finished, and Lizzy guessed she would be the one to bring them all the way out there too. That was a job she didn't mind, though; she loved anything to do with horses. As she shucked the corn, her mind soon began to wander to thoughts of her fire abilities and her success with creating the dragon she has tried so hard to accomplish. A small, absent-minded smile could soon be seen upon her lips.

"Wizen!" Her shrill vioce cried again, forcing him to roll his eyes with another harsh sigh. Wiping a hand over his brow, Wizen removed the watery sweat from his face. It glued in instantly to his fingertips, dragging off his skin and floating casually into the grass in soft bubbles. Leaving his sweat to dampen and feed the grass, Wizen kicked off the ground. As quick as waves he sprinted down the hill, leaping over the first fence he cleared it easily. A small fern crushed under his feet, but Wizen payed no mind and continued to run threw the field. He sailed past horses who whinnied into a gallop away from him, this field belonged to a women and her daughter. Wizen never met them first hand, but he had heard about them from others who dare to talk to him. One mare who was a deep shade of black, didnt seem to be frighted at all from the boys presence. She continued to graze on the tall grass, while all the others ran in huge circles confused completely. This made a toothy grin escape across Wizens lips, he changed his corse and threw his hands up wooping wildly at the mare. Now this had some effect on the mellow horse who now let out a loud cry from its astonishment. Her scream and Wizen's wooping made quite a racket in the large field.

Lizzly was forced out of thought and back to reality when she heard the terrified whinnies of the horses; one she immediately recognized as her own. She threw the corn she was holding back into the bowl, sprang to her feet, and immediately began running toward the pastures. She could already see the scared horses running from something -- though she couldn't see what just yet -- and hear her Mother's angry yell. She continued running until the boy came into sight and she stopped, her eyes narrowed. "What do you think you're doing?" She repeated her Mother's words, who was now standing on the steps that lead up to the back door, still quite a distance away. Lizzy stood by the gate, and wanted to go in and calm the horses, but she had to wait for the boy to stop his whooping so the horses would stop their running.

On hearing the girl's voice, Wizen clamped his mouth shut and took off toward his home. Atleast now for sure he knew that there indeed was a women and girl living in this part of the pasture. He tumbled past the black mare and couldnt help put try and pull a part of her just for kicks. As he ran he threw an arm in her direction, curling his fingers inward he managed to put a tug on her leathery skin. The water from her foamy sweat clung to her tightly but Wizen made it pinch like tiny teeth. This made the mare rear up and exhale another cry while tossing it's head furiously. Wizen's eyes got wide with enjoyment and he finally let out a laugh.

"Why you little..." Lizzy leaped over the gate easily and took off after the boy; her dress gripped in her hands so she didn't trip over it. She realized that she wouldn't be able to catch him on foot, so she changed her course for her frightened horse -- she slowed to a walk so as not to scare her more. "Shhh, Magic, ssshhhhh." She whispered soothingly and reached toward her mare's nose with the palm of her hand. Magic flinched back, her nose flared and head held high, and let out a frightened whinney. Lizzy kept whispering softly, and Magic soon calmed down enough to let Lizzy leap swiftly to her back. She pressed her heals against the black mare's sweaty sides and clucked her tounge to push her into a gallop toward the boy. She bent foward so her face was near Magic's neck, her deep brown eyes set on the running boy.

Wizen almost choked when he heard the horses hooves beating heavily against the ground. Now his eyes were wide in amazement, "Shi-.." the boy cursed trying to run just a little faster. Her shook his head, just like the mare did, trying to quickly think of a plan. Wizen's hands pumped hard against his chest and each time one went up the other went down sucking water from the grass around him. He glanced back behind him, catching sight of the angry girl. Taking a deep uneasy breath he forced out a chuckle, the reason being that usually Wizen was never scared to fight anyone. And a girl, this was just perposterous. This feeling gave him more determination and he gathered more water in the palms of his hands. It took little concenteration to keep it neatly formed in a tight ball, letting the water seap in threw his fingers.

Lizzy's eyes narrowed in anger and determination, her black hair whipped back from the strong wind that was caused by their quick movement. They were catching up quickly and easily, for it is impossible for a human to outrun a horse. She caught a glimpse of the sunlight glinting off something shiney that seemed to fly up into the boy's hand, but she thought nothing of it. When she finally rode alongside the running boy she looked over at him, a small smirk lifted upon her lips. She let go of her horse's black mane and leaned back, then pulled herself into a standing position on Magic's back. She let out a steady stream of clucks to keep her horse moving and used her arms and slightly bent knees for balance. She turned to face the boy and lept from the mare, hoping to tackle him to the ground.

Dropping just as he saw the girl slide off the horse, he fell moments before her, Wizen was bearly able to block his face from smashing into the ground. Instead his hands took in the weight and force, keeping his chin inches from the feathery grass. He looked eagerly forward, and watched the girl fall into the grass. His face pulled into a tight grin as he shoved himself up and onto his knees. From his knees he jumped up and to his feet, which quickly pushed from the ground once feeling it underneath them. Her horse whinnied and jumped slightly, being startled by the sudden shift in weight. The horse ran a couple of yards forward circling back to check on its poor master. And Wizen planned to get past the mare before she completely turned back. Which he did, Wizen jumped strait over the fallen girl spashing a handful of water in her face.

Lizzy gasped from the sudden splash of water in her face and quickly wiped it from her eyes as she jumped to her feet. She would have a few bruises from the fall she just took, and might be alittle sore, but that didn't bother her. She has fallen plenty of times, so she was quite used to it. She set off running after the boy, letting out a shrill whistle with her tounge that called to her horse as she ran. She wasn't about to let him go, not after what he did. When she heard her horse run next to her, she glanced over briefly and then reached her hands toward the mare's neck. With both hands gripping onto the mane, she pulled herself up onto Magic's back and nudged her sides to keep her going. She didn't even stop to think where the water had come from, for she was too caught up in the chase. Then she remembered her fire abilities. A sly smile crept across her face and she raised her hand infront of her, then pointed her index finger toward the boy. After a moment of concentration, a stream of fire burst from the tip of her finger, aimed straight for the boy's bum. The fire startled her horse and caused her to shy to the left, away from the flame, but Lizzy quickly calmed her down with a few soothing words.

Wizen noticed the change in the amount of water he was breathing from the air, he felt as if a peice of himself evaporated and traveled upward. He turned back hearing the horses hooves change into that all too familiar pace, Wizen almost tripped when he saw the line of blazing fire. He bearly managed to send the water from his hand to dampen his pants, but still that wasnt enough as he felt the kiss of the flame. He actually fell over this time, loosing his footing as the pain from his rearend filled his mind. Wizen landed roughly on his chest, the wieght of his body slammed the air right out of his lungs. Coughing Wizen shoved himself off his stomach and to his back. He kept his butt off the ground, hoping it would ease the pain. He could hear the horse getting closer and he was still in shock to even concider the flame had came from the girl. But never loosing his edge, Wizen again started to collect water from the ground and from his sweating body. This time though, he kept the water hidden in the grass close to him. Again gathering it in one spot, making sure it was just in his grasp.

Lizzy smirked, pleased that she had hit her mark. She slowed Magic to a stop near the boy and looked down at him from her position on the horse. "That's what you get for hurting my horse." The black mare pawed the ground and let out a snort, her head bobbing up and down; she would remember this boy.

The boys eyebrows arched, and his face spread into a smile. "What? I didnt hurt your horse," he shrugged his shoulders in the grass, "I know i scared it a bit, but i never hurt it. Really i didnt, unless it doesnt like being scared." As Wizen chattered along he made to attempt to stand, all he did was move his shoulders this way and that.

Lizzy narrowed her brown eyes as she looked down at him. "You pinched her." She said as she ran a hand over her horse's sweating neck. "Duh, she doesn't like being scared." She rolled her eyes when she said that. "And neither does all the others. What were you doing in our pastures, anyway?" As she watched him try to get up and a small smile spread across her lips; she must of hit him good.

"What? Who gave you that idea? I was more than 5 feet away from it, it freaked on its own." His voice sounded somewhat hurt and he was in defencive mode. "Geez, girl. What are you crazy? Who could even do that? And i didnt have no rock, niether." Wizen sat up now, still staring up at her, "Man, why would i even want to?"

"Wizen!" A voice echoed over the fields, his mother obviously. This made Wizen jump to his feet, he had forgotten he was going home.

"Aw man. Sorry missy, but i gotta go." Wizen saluted the girl in a playful manner, and nodded to the horse even. He tried to move infront of the mare, so that he could start running again.

Magic shied away from him when he suddenly jumped to his feet and pawed the ground nervously. When he tried to move infront of her, the mare lashed out at him with her teeth toward his shoulder. "Liar. I was right there, and Magic doesn't get skittish for no reason." She let out a soft laugh when Magic went to bite him, she thought he deserved it. When she heard the boy's mother, she remembered her own. My mom's gonna be mad when I get home... Her mom was trying to teach her to be the lady she was, and she would definitely consider chasing off after the boy unlady-like. She glanced over her shoulder toward her home, and then back at the boy. "Don't let me catch you in our pastures again, or you'll get another burn in the tushie. The next one'll be worse, you won't be able to sit for a month."

"Oh!" The boy slapped the horse's mouth away softly, almost casually. "You did that fire thing? Really? How'd you do it, you got a flame thrower or somethin'?" Almost instantly Wizen forgot about his mother again, and started to walk around the girl. He eyed her body and horse, "I dont see no gun on you."

Magic pranced away from him, her head held high, and turned in a tight circle when the boy circled them. Lizzy did her best to calm the mare down and hold her still. "Yes, I did 'that fire thing.'" She said, rolling her eyes. "I don't even own a gun." She wiped her hair out of her face which was sticking to her forehead and cheeks from water and sweat. "How'd you do that water thing?" She asked suddenly; her wet hair reminded her of the splash in the face.

"Huh?" He suddenly looked confused, "What water thing? And how'd you do that fire?" Scrunching his eyebrows together Wizen continued to talk. "You know, your pretty weird. You and that horse, just look at you two. Circling me like a pair of vultures."

She raised an eyebrow slightly. "You splashed..." She began, but then stopped. "Nevermind..." She stroked Magic's neck and tried to get her to calm down. "She won't stand still 'cause somebody desided to scare her." She ignored his question about the fire; she hasn't told anyone, besides her mother of course, and that was the first time she used it in public.

With a grin and a shrug Wizen brushed off her rude comment. Instead he rubbed his hand over his still throbbing butt, "Man, I dunno what you did but it works swell and..."

"Wizen! Wizen, your get yourself-!!" He was cut off by more loud shouts and his mother's voice trickled away as she started to curse again.

"Shoot." Wizen snapped a finger, "Gotta go."

Lizzy looked up toward the sound of the yelling. "She doesn't sound too nice." She muttered and then turned to look back down at the boy. "Yeah, you better not come by here again or my mother'll give you a whippin', it don't matter to her that your not her boy." She warned, "And you better not touch my horse again either."

Wizen looked playfully suprized by the way she talked of her mother and his, "Oh? She wouldnt care none?" A charming smile rose upon his lips, "How bad would she beat me? Or you perhaps, how bad would i get it, if i did lay a hand on that nightshade mare?"

"I'll just say that you'll be sore for awhile." She said, in answer to both questions. Magic swished her tail sharply to scare off the flies that were attracted to her sweat and shifted her weight from side to side, as if wanting to run.

Wizen nodded, "Well, I wouldnt want that. I think im sore enough." Laughing he appeared to be scratching the back of his head, when in reality the motion of his fingers caused the water he had been gathering in the grass to shift. It moved threw the blades like a snake, slithering toward the hooves of the black mare. Its trail was so thin, like the slime of a slug, Wizen was sure the girl nor the horse would take notice to it.

Magic lowered her head slightly and let out a snort through flared nostrils, her eyes steady on the boy and her ears pressed flat against her head in a sign of agression. "I think you'd better get home." Lizzy said. It was true, neither the mare or the girl noticed the water slithering through the grass.

Entertained by the way the girl and horse shared the same emotions, Wizen couldnt help but chuckle to himself. "Yeah, sure." He just about snapped, "See you around... Uh, wait. Whats your name?" This girl was as lovely as the horse, and Wizen felt that he couldnt leave with out atleast knowing her name. Besides, he knew from the start where the flame had come from and since then desided to befriend the girl.

His water began to pool at the mare's hooves, soaking into the ground as to not be seen. Wizen dropped his hand back to his side, grinning innocently at the girl.

She was quite startled by the question, but decided to answer anyway. "Lizzy." With that, she turned her mare around and pushed her into a walk toward home. She had some corn to shuck, and she knew that if she didn't finish it soon her Mother would be mad. Magic immediately percked up when she saw they were headed home, and she lifted her head and steps high as she walked. Her tail swished behind her with almost every step, and her black fur seemed to shine in the sun. "You need a bath." Lizzy whispered to the mare while patting her neck. I guess I'll do that before the corn... horses always come first. Mother'll understand.

"Lizzy," the boy said smoothly, "Im Wizen." He spoke to the girls back, twisting his fingers, only this time not shielding the sight of them, he clung the water to the horse. Its hooves were painted sweetly, each covered in the perfect amount of water. It simply looked as if it had gotten diry from stepping in the moist grass, but truthfully evey sharp hoove held half a cup of water. Wizen though, did nothing more, only take one last glance before zipping away. If he hurried he would finish what ever his mother had planned for him to do, and then be able to return to spy on the girl. The water he had placed on the mare was specially made, mixed with the pure honey like dew was- you might say- a piece of Wizen. He had taken his sweat and personally blended it into the water, this created a pull. But it wasnt a pull on the horse, more of a mental attraction to Wizen. It was his sort of tracking devise, now he could always tell where the horse was. Even, if he concentrated hard enough, where the horse had been. Each step he would see familiar and like the blinding sun. But Wizen didnt need to know that at the moment, he knew where the girl lived and knew where to find her.

Lizzy sighed and rode Magic all the way to the pasture gate, and then slid off the sweaty mare's back. She opened the gate and walked out with Magic following close behind, and then turned around to lock it. Without any lead on her horse, she began to walk toward the stable knowing that the mare would follow. She walked inside the wide doors and grabbed Magic's halter off a hook near her stall as she passed, and continued on her way to the showering stall. When she reached it she turned to her horse and slid the halter over her black nose, and then lead her easily into the stall. She hooked two ropes to the metal rings on either side of the halter that were also attached to either wall, thus holding the horse in place. She ran back outside to the well to get a couple buckets of water, then headed back to her horse. She set them on the ground near by and took a rag off a hook in the wall, which she then soaked in the cold water. She took it out and wrung it out so it didn't just drip all over the place, and then began the process of rubbing the dirt and sweat from the mare's black hide. She was completely oblivious to what Wizen had done to the horse's hooves, as was Magic.
