the caterpillar pillar.
Once upon a time there was a young and curious caterpillar named Stripe. Stripe was so interested in everything he didn't know about. He wanted to learn everything there was to learn and he wanted to see everything there was to see.
One day he decided he was going to go on an adventure across the meadow, he packed his little bag up and headed on his adventure. After quite a while of walking and not really seeing anything that was all that exciting to him, he stumbled across this gorgeous creature basking in the sun. Without hesitation he waddled over to her and asked, "What's your name?"
"My name's Yellow, what's yours?" she asked. He told her his name was Stripe and asked her if she wanted to go on the adventure with him. "Yes, of course" she said and they continued on the journey. But every now and then they would take a little stop to frolic in the grass or lay in the sun, or much on a few twigs, anything they wanted to do; just happy being together.
Then one day, they lay down on the sweet grass, and Stripe looked in Yellow's eyes and told her that he loved her, that she was the most beautiful caterpillar he'd ever seen and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Yellow was so happy, she looked back at him and told him that she loved him too, and that she wanted to spend her life with him.
So, they decided they had to keep on their adventure because they thought there had to be somewhere more exciting than the boring meadow. So they walked and walked, and walked the whole way across the meadow until they saw this big pillar. It looked so small because it was so very far away, but as they got closer they realized that the pillar was made up of caterpillars and they were all climbing and climbing and climbing and trying to get to the top.
Stripe looked down and he saw this chubby little caterpillar that was holding his mom's purse. So he asked the chubby little caterpillar, "why is everyone climbing?"
He said, "i don't know but my mom's up there too, she says there's something amazing at the top."
So Stripe starts to get on and he turns to Yellow and he asks her "Yellow, do you want to climb? let's see what's up there!" But Yellow starts to think, 'why doesn’t Stripe just want to stay with me, why can't we just finish our adventure together and be happy. Why do we have to do this?' but then she realizes, well maybe this was there adventure. And so she agrees.
The two of them start climbing, and they're climbing over caterpillars left and right, shoving people out of the way and Yellow had never seen Stripe act this way before, she didn't understand. But then she realizes the excitement in his eyes and she just wants him to be happy, so she keeps climbing.
Suddenly, they feel everything start to shake. Yellow grabs on real tight and she calls for Stripe, she says "Stripe, help me i can't hold on!" then all of a sudden she falls.
Stripe screams "Yellow, Yellow! Hold on!" and then all of these other caterpillars start falling from the sky. Stripe looks around and starts to cry, he's searching all over looking for yellow but he can't find her anywhere. But finally he hears her voice and he looks over to find her dangling over the edge holding onto a thorn off the side of the pillar. He helps her up and he says "Yellow, i was so scared, i was so scared! I’m glad you're okay!"
Then Yellow says "But I’m not okay, why can't we just finish our adventure on the ground, and spend the rest of our lives together?" Stripe was conflicted, he didn't know weather to continue to search for something amazing, or if he should stay with Yellow.
Finally, he says to her "I do love you, but i have to continue to search for what's here." Well Yellow starts crying and climbs down the pillar alone. But when she gets to the bottom she runs into this beautiful angel, with these bright colorful wings. The angel tells her that everything will be okay, that she doesn’t need to cry. And Yellow asks the angel how she got to be so beautiful. In response, the angel takes her and she shows her how to make a cocoon, she tells her that some day she can be that beautiful too.
So she sets to work spinning her cocoon because she thinks that if she gets to be as beautiful as the angel that Stripe will want to be with her. She spins her cocoon, and she pins her cocoon, and as she gets in it she thinks as soon as she gets out she'll find Stripe and she'll show him how beautiful she's become, and he'll get down off that pillar and they can finish up their adventure together.
All the while Stripe is still climbing that pillar. Every now and then it still shakes a little and more caterpillars fall off, but he has no idea why. After a while he starts to feel sluggish and he's getting tired, and climbing slower, and he realizes that he's starting to become an old man. But he still doesn’t give up, he really needs to know what's at the top of the pillar. So he keeps climbing.
After a long time, he finally gets to the top. He looks all around and he doesn’t see anything, there's nothing there and he doesn’t know why. So he sits down and starts crying. As soon as he does, he starts to feel the shake again. He gets closer to the edge and then finally starts to fall, he calls out "please someone help me!" but no body helps him, everyone's too busy climbing.
So he falls. And then, THUD. But it didn't hurt and he doesn’t know why. He looks down and he realizes that he's on the back of this beautiful angel. He says "who are you? who are you?" and she doesn’t say anything, just flies him to safety.
As he gets down, Stripe looks into her eyes and he thinks 'Yellow? Nah, this can't be Yellow.. but I’ve seen these eyes before.' Well she's sees him look at her, but he hasn't said anything so she ducks her head and starts to cry, she says "Stripe, it's me. Don't you recognize me?"
And his heart starts to flutter just like it did the day he told her he loved her. HE looks deep in her eyes and he asks her how she got to be this way, and she shows him how to spin his own cocoon. But he fights it, he doesn’t want to spin a cocoon. Last time he left her he wasn't sure weather or not he'd see her again and he didn't want to leave her ever again.
Yellow promises him that she'll be there when he gets out; finally he agrees and spins the cocoon.
Then one day, Yellow's awoken by this familiar touch and she looks up and there she sees Stripe's eyes. She's so happy and as soon as she feel's him tap her arm she gets up and says "Stripe, please come with me i have something to show you." So they fly high above the meadow where they can't even see the ground anymore.
Stripe looks out and he see's hundreds of pillars all across the meadow. He looks at her and he says, "Yellow, i don't understand."
And she looks back at him and says, "Stripe, don't you understand? When someone loves you and they're willing to spend the rest of their lives with you, it shouldn't mater what else is out there because you have them." And with that, she took him by the hand and kissed him on the cheek and they were free to continue their adventure.
