December 2004 Donation Item Critique
This month's donation items are the Fire Gauntlet and the OMFG (Oddly Mischievous, Freaky & Grim) hat.

If I didn't realize it before, I sure do now. The release of the OMFG hat and the BTK hat last month may or may not be an attempt to lower the value of the original OMG and AFK hat from last year. This won't happen seeing how some people believe those hats are a lot better than what is being released now. Still, I can't help but wonder about the simularities.

Anyway, enough conspiricy theories. On with the Critique!

Both month's items seem to be the counter-balance to last month's BTK and Ice Gauntlet. Weapon fans will like the Fire Gauntlet and will no doubt will want two of them. I know I already bought my second one. The OMFG hat also has a mask feature, which is nice for those of us that don't like to show our faces much. Personally, I didn't see this pairring coming, nor was I surprised when I saw the release of these items. Sorry, admins, you didn't send me happily skipping to open my letters this month.

Now to the individual critiques.

The Fire Gauntlet, the exact opposite to the Ice Gauntlet, functions the same way as the previous month's donation item. You can equip both at once, you have three different modes (Gauntlet, Claw, Blade), and it is compatible with evey hand position available. As you can see in the picture above, Claw Mode doesn't look as threatening as the Ice Gauntlet's Claw Mode. However, if you equip it on the left hand (or right hand depending on how your avatar is facing) and turn on Claw Mode, you get something rather interesting. Instead of a claw, it would appear that the fire turns into something that looks like a Snake Router that plumbers use to drill out clogged sinks. Now that looks cool and threatening. Blade Mode, is rather genaric, but thankfully the fire doesn't point straight out to form a sword like in most RPGs. The fire naturally curves upward as it does in real life. This looks best on the male avatars if used on the left (or right) hand that is closest to the foreground. Because the arm is outstreached the way it is, the blade looks as if the person was caught swinging downward with it in a chop.

Incidently, you can have both the Ice and Fire Gauntlets on at the same time. While this would be benificial in performing moves that involve thermal shock--where something breaks because it is heated too fast and then cooled just as fast--most RPGs I've played cancel the two out. The exception goes to Pokemon where ice is weak against fire. However, for the most part, water and ice are the same thing, and when you mix that in with fire, they pretty much cancel each other out. This is just all speculation, after all, because the Gaia Battle System hasn't been released yet. And yet people still call these kind of items weapons. xd

On to the OMFG hat. There really isn't much to say about it. The hat appears to be the same style as the OMG hat, but this time has little wings at the top instead of a long tail that screams "I'm a Heartless from Kingdom Hearts!" Like its counter, the BTK hat, there are two modes. The Mask mode is a nice alternative to the Zorro Mask, albeit a little pricey. The only bad thing is you lose the wings due to the darkness of the hat and the little contrast between each element. If anything, the wings end up looking like horns that are curling towards the back.

This month, I would have to say my favor goes to the Fire Gauntlet. Even though I need more dark clothing, the OMFG hat doesn't really have enough "zing" to wow me over like the BTK did when it first came out. On top of this, the fact that the Fire and Ice Gauntlets can be equiped at the same time really adds to the variety and uniqueness of the pairs. However, it's unknown as of right now if this will have any affect--if any--in the future when Gaia Battle comes online. So if you were waiting on my opinion to help you decide, go play with fire. The original OMG hat seems to be the better choice over the OMFG hat.

It's really starting to piss me off that the admins keep trying to lower the values of the items I have in bulk while they never even touch things like the rose corsage. Sure. Make my offer worth even less than it already is. neutral

Well, they did admit that they never intended the donation items to become an investment, so maybe this is their way to balance out the fact you are wearing a hat that worth well over a million gold... even though I know you won't give it up for the world, seeing how you love Pandas.
