Dark Love
So let’s see. We have a hoodie modeled after a Tim Burton-esque bear and a anime power mallet (finally!) with a broken heart motif. And a ton of spikes and claws and sharp, pointy things between each items! Yet the art for this month looks rather cute. Strange, huh? . . .

zOMG! A Future Animated?
The Grizzly Hoodie is a black jacket with a very Hot Topic feel to it, but it looks like it has the potential to become an animated baddie in an expansion to zOMG! I’ll explain that later on.

The first options are as a hoodie. You naturally have the options between the hood up and the hood down. But there’s an oddity. With the hood down, the hood apparently disappears leaving you with a black jacket with a fur-lined collar and claws on the sleeves. Another odd thing is that there is a zipper in the back that runs the entire length of the jacket, making me believe that this jacket could have had a half jacket option. But that never happens.

Speaking of the zipper, the second option gives your skin base a zipper on your front along the sternum and spine. Don’t try to wear a shirt; it layers underneath it. It even goes under undershirts! If anything, treat it like a tattoo. If you want an interesting look, throw on the patchwork Dead Doll skin. The zipper looks great with it.

The next option is as pair of bear paw gloves. The zipper this time runs along the top of the paws. These may be just for appearance, but one has to wonder. How do you zip them up when it is clear from the design that you cannot move your fingers with these gloves on?

The Grizzly Boots are the same way, only the zipper makes sense in securing the boots to your foot. The cuffs of the boot is fur line as well, and much like the armor set from last month, you get claws at the end of the foot. To be honest, it is a better design and slightly more flexible compared to last month’s version.

Now the rest of the options available makes me believe that eventually this item will become an animated baddie. The first pair is the Grizzly plushie. The design of this is very much like the Tim Burton design of the vampire teddy from Nightmare Before Christmas, only darker. Red demonic eyes with a set of teeth that rival the spikes of a closed Iron Maiden. Now, you can either be a good user and let this plushie alone on the floor, or you could just hold it in your arms if you feel brave enough. However, don’t turn your back on this little guy. He’s got the appetite of a Grunny and will bite down on your head.

If you’re able to kill it, you can have the option of using it as a backpack. The front looks a little bit like the Panda Pack, only solid black instead of black and white. The back looks like the Grizzly plush with the zipper acting as the only access to the pack’s pocket. Unless you count the mouth.

Overall, the options are rather flexible and will cater to anyone’s taste. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see a real life Grizzly hoodie available for purchase in the Gaia store. If you want a complete set, two will be enough. Why two? One for the jacket and the other for whatever other option you want. Or, if you don’t like the jacket, you can use two to use the boot and gloves at the same time. Either way, it’s worth the investment.

Bondage Convention at the Heartbreak Hotel
FINALLY!! I’ve been wanting an anime two-ton mallet for a while, even if it was the squeaky model. And now we have it!

And I couldn’t ask for a nicer design. The default option is a red and black mallet with spikes along the center of the handle and the connection to the hammer head. The face is marked with a broken heart, and the back is (apparently) a series of holes. This could be several things. If you watch Powerpuff Girls Z, Buttercup’s hammer occasionally fires a rocket booster. If that isn’t the case, it could be for weight so that you are not given a true two-ton mallet. Either way, I’m happy we finally got it.

The second option begins this strange bondage theme that runs throughout the item. The first is a very gimp-style bondage hood. The broken heart motif is used for the face with the spike running down the center. A small spike ball at the end gives it that unique Gaia touch seen commonly with the OMG and OMFG hats. So from one angle, you have an executioner’s hood, and on the other hand, you have a gimp hood. Either way, it’s very dark but surprisingly appealing.

The next option is as a spiked ball and chain. You have an option of having the ball sit either on the left or right of your avatar. While it looks more threatening, the prisoner version is better designed. The threatening design hasn’t been overlooked. Your third option with this spiked ball and chain is as a weapon. Standing, your avatar is spinning the ball around ready to attack. Sitting, your avatar knows better and won’t spin it around. Now if only there was a zOMG! ring with an animation appropriate to this image.

Spiked Harness gives you a very sexual harness with spikes located in very naughty places. And I’ll just leave it at that. Not because I don’t feel comfortable talking about it. It’s because I don’t think it needs to be explained. And I don’t know what the female version looks like.

Now all three of these options put together pretty much gives you a bondage look that is definitely skirting the line as what is PG-13 appropriate. But we have a lot of adult users here who will find the humor in this look. But don’t be surprised if you stumble across someone cybering with this set on. Just have your report button finger ready.

The last three options takes this broken heart motif in a different angle. You are given an electric guitar whose body is in the image of a broken heart. The spikes run the bottom of the guitar and are there for looks. You have the option of holding it like you are playing or mounted on your back. You also have the option of breaking it like a popular rocker would on stage. Too bad we don’t have an option with it on fire to please the Hendrix in all of us.

Overall, this item is surprisingly very flexible in what it offers. While it is clear that there are three different so-called themes in this one item alone, they are consistent with each other. It may seem weird to go from a cartoon mallet to an adult sex wear to a rock guitar design, they make it work. There is definitely something there to please everyone, where the only problem is matching the red or black in the item with your outfit.

Bear-ing a Broken Heart
Between the two, I think the avatar artists are finally getting around to making flexible items that appeal to more than one demographic. There isn’t a clear-cut cute item or dark item in this month’s set. Both items are rather dark, but they have their appeal to the cute side of Gaia. They also have an appeal to those that may not like black or dark colors.

I hope this trend continues over the year, because so far, this is the second month in a row where the items have actually impressed me. Well, if you excluded the Scarlet Sprite.

The spiked bondage gear covers only the side of the brest, the same spot on the male avatar for the most part.
