Chapter 4 : "What Happened?"
My face stings, and sweat drips into my eyes. I stare into the fog. The air is hot... burning. A ring of fire forms around me. I stare blankly. I can't seem to think .
"Blake..."
I see a dark figure walking toward me," Its been awhile."
I see a girl about my height, walking toward me. She wielded a sword, which glowed with flame.
She reached up at me and grabbed my cheek. It stung. I yelped.
She smiled, her eyes changed from brown to deep red. Her body lit up , glowing with flame. She forced her sword towards me , and I yell out a name.
"Audrey...!"
Everything goes black.
"Huh!" I shot my eyes open.
I stare blankly into darkness as I let my eyes adjust. I am in a bed. I search around me . I realize I am in a tent. There is two beds. One with me, the other occupied by my snoring sister. I squint at what I think is a clock. I think is says," 3.38 am."
I rub my eyes. I'm sweating. I haul myself up from my bed, and walk out of the tent. I step out into cool air and creaking wood. I am on a platform. I peek over the edge. My stomach churns as I realize... we're in the trees. I look up, and find bridges connecting the tents and huts along branches.
"This is where they keep extra supplies." I heard a voice from behind me.
I quickly turn and I see a boy my age.
I stare at him.
"Hi there," he extends a hand," I'm Striker."
I reach out," Blake."
"How do you like our village?" he asked, looking at something in the distance.
"I didn't get the tour. I fell asleep right after dinner." I answered.
I studied Striker. He had black hair falling over his left eye. HE wore a red shirt and black jeans.
"Makina said that we were to stay up here until they can make another home. For all of us." he replied.
"Why are you out here?"
" I may ask you the same thing."
I purse my lips," Good night then...Striker."
"See you."
I go back into the tent, and place myself on the bed.
I didn't go back to sleep.
I felt guilt. Audrey Summers... my best friend... she died in a fire two years ago. We fought... and I never said I'm sorry...
