Lets Party Like A Pop Song From The 80's.
Tonight I encountered a friend of mine going to a party. This person was going to the party to get drunk. He..she told me straight out that they wanted to try something new. It's not unordinary for this person to lash out in chaotic ideas like this, but still...I feel as though this person's decision was not very wise. This person fell under peer pressure. One of his..her friends told them that drinking "relieves stress," and that he..she should try it.
I'm probably not the right person to judge this situation, but I feel as though complete stupidity was thrown at my face. How in the world can drinking relieve stress (overall, that is). It just creates more problems (posioning, death, headaches, craving, sexual frustration, overall danger, etc). One drink can lead to another. And another. And another, and so on. You just want more, and that creates even more stress. Drinking does not solve anything. Yeah, it's fun for one night. One night that you probably won't remember. You might not ever be able to remember anything ever again, if you're unfortunate enough to have it take your entire life, or someone elses.
It might make you look hardcore or a badass, but to me, there is nothing more hardcore than being straight edge. This was a trend that became common a little over a year ago, but to me, this is probably the hottest trends I've ever heard of. Daily, I continue to follow it. I don't drink, I don't do drugs, and I don't have sex. I'm a virgin, and I'm proud to be one. Go tell your friends.
Being straight edge does not require zero fun. I probably have more fun than people who aren't straight edge. I don't pass out, I can remember what I did last night, I don't have to worry about being pregnant, and I can stand with my head up high and tell everyone that I'm proud of my reputation.
Being straight edge does not just affect the way I and people around me live, it also affects my philosophy on life itself. I believe in self respect, honor, and dignity. I don't participate in activities that disgrace my mind or body. I don't plan on degrading myself anytime soon, either.
Who ever reads this...I don't care who you are (if you know me, you don't know me, you're famous, you're the president, etc), please think before you listen to your friends tell you how much stress is relieved once you swallow some poison. Also, it's never too late to turn back and start over. Even if nobody reads this, I'm still proud that I can tell myself that I'm living a great lifestyle.
