In a small town, to the north, Snow fell. Every frozen tear fell from the sky and kissed to earth. Some tears fell in the street, others in yards, some even on rooftops. And these tears also fell on a corner.

This corner welcomed the tears as they flocked in clouds of white. For on this corner sat a half lit light post, and under this post, sat a dog.

This dog sat and waited, as it did all day. It sat on this corner, waiting for Its owner to return. The dog ignored the temperature. and sat, on the corner, on the darkest night of the coldest winter.

It gazed down the road, hoping to see his owner returning. Even though this hound knew in its mind, it wasn't lost, it was abandoned. But the dog's poor heart still held loyal to it's owner. So it sat, and waited. It's fur matted and dirty. It's nose dry, and cold, its tail half frozen in the flock of icy tears that surrounded it.

As it sat, it never forgot it's owner's name, face and scent. It waited and hoped to see that face it had adored. It waited, hoping to see that smile again.


As it sat, many beings passed by. Many ignored it seeing such a sad sight. Some tried to comfort it with a pat on the head and the occasional "Good boy". Yet some of the beings were cruel. They teased the dog and laughed at it. they kicked snow in it's face and threw rocks. But the dog held fast, hoping in it's heart it's owner would show up and save it.

It continued to wait as the temperatures dropped. It never moved from it's spot. As more passed by, a familiar scent was picked up. but this scent had a mix. There was the scent of it's owner, but also the scent of the one who kicked him out. A man came by the corner with this scent. He glared at the hound seeing it still there. So this man kneeled down by the dog and held his daughter in front of him. He grabbed a stick and poked at the hound. The hound was tormented in a different way. A demon hiding behind an innocent was harming it. The hound remained in it's spot, but as the man continued this torment, a silent hatred brewed. As the man poked the dog more and more, the dog whined and growled. but every time the dog made a sound, it felt a sharp pain on it's head as the man hit it over the head. The torment continued for what seemed like hours.

After a world of torture passed by the animal. It turned to the man. The man reacted by hitting the dog harder than ever. able to bare it no more the dog barked fiercely. It's tailed straightened and it's matted fur stood on end.

The daughter of the man screamed and cried thinking the dog was angry at her. The people passing by saw this and thought the same.

"Filthy mongrol! she only wanted to pet you! yet you try to hurt her!?" the man yelled for all to hear.

The cruel imp of a human stood to his feet, raised his foot and kicked the poor hound. upon this kick several bones broke in the dog's rib cage. It yelped and fell to the ground. The man picked up his daughter and walked away laughing silently at his actions.

As the hound suffered, no one helped. How could they? All they saw from this animal was the anger it showed. fearing their own safety, all beings cleared away from the corner and left the dying animal all alone.

The dog lay in the snow and weakly pointed it's eyes towards the end of the street. Hoping to see the face of it's owner come from the shadows of that cold night and take it away.

Tears of frozen despair fell from the sky more rampantly. The icy breeze turned to wind, and a cloud of white filled the town. The dog still waited, half dead in this sea of icy sorrow. A tear rolled from the eye of the dog that was still visible in the snow. halfway down the dog's long nose, the tear itself froze... The night grew colder and everything turned dark for the animal. The dog's life had ended.
