The fountain-part one
The crumbling ruins of an old fountain sat dull in the setting sun, from it a small trickle of water fell. Akira, seeing no one around, walked cautiously towards it. Just as she reached it realized that she didn't want to look down in. She looked. She couldn't help it. It was as if some unknown force took hold of her. She peered into the fountain. The water fell into complete darkness.

CRACK! Akira woke, sitting bolt upright, and looked around at the dark trees. A dream, just a dream. So what had woken her? There it was again, only louder. She strained her ears to listen and realized that the noise was followed by the sound of somebody crying. Akira stood, clutching her arms close to her body, and walked though the thick trees in the direction of the whimpering. As Akira drew closer, she caught fragments of a man shouting unintelligible babble then, “...you monster!”

Akira hid behind a tree and looked out onto a scene lit by the moon. She saw a young man standing above a huddled mass on the ground. At that moment, Akira recognized the sound. The man raised a whip and cracked it down on the creature, who gave a cry of pain. He raised his arm, ready to strike again and said, “You're the biggest waste of money. If you weren't of use to me I'd have killed you on the spot.”

Akira picked up a stone and tossed it off into the distance. It echoed as it hit a tree and the man pulled a knife. “Who's there,” he yelled, “show yourself!” He walked off and Akira, taking the opportunity, quickly walked out to the creature.

“Miss. . .miss what is happening here?” Akira asked the girl on the ground. She raised her head slightly and said in barely a whisper “K-Kain. . .r-run away. . .hurry.”
