Mah Jernul :3 <3
The voices told me to.
Dear Child...
It's cold... Why is it so cold? There is no sound where I lay. No bustle of townspeople from below. No hot air blowing in from the open window of my apartment building.
The window.
They came in through the window.
Silence, cold as can be, hands unkind as they took me away. Where am I?
My eyes open to... nothing. Cold silence, accompanied by dark. Why? My hands won't move from where ever they lay. I'm floating; my limbs are detached. My eyes are gone. My flesh is exposed to the elements. I'm dead.
So why do I breathe, so panicked? My hands - there they are - are soaked with sweat. My still-beating heart is pounding against my ribcage. I am alive.
Barely.
Mustering every bit of strength, I lift myself. It's not too hard, actually. I'm still floating. No, I'm on the ground.
The situation is making my head spin; am I here, am I there? Am I neither? Both?
My eyes are still there in my aching skull, finally adjusting to the pitch black of the cold room. Yes, a room. Not space. It's not too dark in actuality. Just empty.
But there is a door. A beautiful door. With beautiful light shining through the inch-wide space at the bottom. I drag myself, my numb legs, towards that light.
Then I feel it.
It.
Fear.
It shoots through my veins and chills me. This just drives me even harder; I pull myself towards that door by my fingernails, scratching my feet against the hard ground. Almost...
And there I am. Little bitty me, staring up at the door knob of that beautiful door... or rather, lack of door knob. There's just a key hole, a very large one, that no light shines through. But I need to see it. My brain screams, You need to see it.
I am alive. I can do this. Tears stream from my strained eyes down to my chin, plopping audibly to the floor. Then I see it. The other side.
And it sees me back.
A red light flashes in my face and I scream. The sound echoes through the empty room, seeming to shatter the darkness as the door flies open. The light burns my eyes. The red light of the outside. The red eyes of the creature. I sob louder. Its dark lips pull back over the sharp, stained teeth behind them, and it steps forward on all fours. "Dear child..." It is a soft woman's voice. It sends a wave of comfort over me. A sickeningly false sense of safety. "Why do you cry before me?"
I grab the beast by its foreleg, pulling.
"Where... Am... I...?" I gasp the words, feeling as if sandpaper is clawing its way up my esophagus.
Its smile grows larger, exposing nearly every gnarled tooth. "Why, my lovely." It kicks me away. The door slowly closes before me, the red light reflecting against my face until it's just a crack. "You're in hell."
And I'm gone.
