Photography
Chapter 4 Part one

Critiquing: writing about the good and the of evaluating the good and the bad of a photo (crit)

Criticizing: Point out the flaws ONLY

A true critique is where both posative and negative are balanced

Three basic questions in a critique:
1) whats gooda about it?
2) not good about it?
3) how could it be better?

To critique a work your first goal as a photographer is to move beyond your likes and dislikes, you idetafiy the technical ovjective factors that define a photo and to evaluate them. You distinquish beween style and standards

Style is a personal matter a unique way of looking at things and expressing them

Standards: skill is the key ingrediant and can be judged objectivly they are matters of fact and not oppinion
4 fators
1)Value
2) clairy
3)compostion
4)presentation

Value: the range of light in a photo from black thru the shades of grey to white

Contrast: how like the lights are and how dark the darks are

High contrast photos: have more black then whites and fewer greys

Good greys are consistant and clear bad greys are muddy greys

Muddy greys come from
1) to little light
2) under exposing when shooting
3)underdeveloping the film
4)using incorect paper grade
5)over exposing the print
6)removing it from the developer to soon
