Chapter 17: {*song expired by Seether's: Careless Whisper That man can sing~}

The next day slowly rises, and Sara was standing outside, keeping her eyes on the Signal Interceptor. She wasn't alone however as Paladin Floss was standing with her as well as Danse. Both Paladins had been roaming the area, as well as a few more guards. After everything that had happened, security measures were at an all time high. She turns to Paladin Floss, a huge smile on his face as she smirks. "Someone's happy today." He jumps a bit as he blushes. "I'm looking forward to my personal day off, me and the wife are going to celebrate our twentieth year anniversary." "Aww, that's sweet, is your wife a member as well?" He smiles at this and nods. "She mostly works on the field, Senior Scribe Alice Floss." Danse was quietly listening. He'd known both of them for some time now and found them both pleasant to be around. "Ah, I probably haven't met her, so what's the plan?" He sighs as he rubs the back of his head. "I don't know, I want to do something nice, but so far I've came up empty.." She glances around, making sure Maxson wasn't around. She swore something was out to get her, every time she pulled something like this. Which made her wonder if he had heard her signing when she was working on the helmets. She feels herself blush as she shakes it off. "I have an idea..." Before all of this, Elder Maxson had 'dealt' with Knight Veris. While it pained him to gun down one of his own men, There simply was no other way around this.

He needed some air, he really shouldn't be living the ship as much as he had been, but he really needed some space. Once he was on solid ground again, he felt ten times better as he makes his way to the Interceptor was to see Sara smiling up at Paladin Floss. "Here's what ya do, you go out, to..well I guess finding a quiet spot around here is a pain, but I'm sure you can figure something out." He nods his head at this. "Anyways, you get yourself all cleaned up, if you can, buy a tux.." He rises his brow at this. "Why?" "Trust me, as a lady there is nothing sexier then a man in a tux." She lets out a low inappropriate growling sound as Danse snaps at her. "Knight!" She waves him off, ignoring him as Danse looks up to see Maxson. He was rather calm as he just leans back, listening. "At any rate, as the sun sets, and you hold her close, you start dancing as you start belting out Careless Whisper to her as you dance the night away!" He gives her a surprised look, then barks out a good laugh. "You know that song?" "You kidding, it's one of my favorites." Paladin Floss looks up, his eyes wide as he spots the Elder, but she had yet to take notice. He was far to amused to see where this was going. But without missing a beat, she she holds out her hand to the older Paladin. {*}"I feel so unsure. As I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor. As the music dies, something in your eyes.
Calls to mind the silver screen. And all its sad good-byes."

She even starts swaying to her own beat as the poor Paladin tries not to laugh. He had to admit the girl had a lot of passion. "I'm never gonna dance again. Guilty feet have got no rhythm. Though it's easy to pretend. I know you're not a fool. Should've known better than to cheat a friend. And waste the chance that I've been given. So I'm never gonna dance again. The way I danced with you..~"{*} Now he was laughing as he shakes his head. "How do you even know that song, that's way before your time Missy." She blinks as she lowers her jaw. "Hey...I'm not that young, plus I'm a sucker for good music. Just...probably not what most people are in to..." He rises his brow at this. "Oh God don't tell me you got into that..what was it, rap?" She shakes her head at this. "Worse!" He knits his brows at this. "I got into heavy metal, thanks to my friends, and yes I'm talking the whole nine yards of, drum beats, having no idea what they'er saying, but damn it I love it!" He was shaking his head slowly at this as Maxson just shifts in his spot. "Well if it makes any difference Knight, you have a lovely signing voice." She squints at him a tiny bit. "You're such a terrible lair, but thanks." He gives her a half shrug. "I'll have to try it on the wife..heh it might lead to something." She covers her face as Danse looks away. "Thank you, I needed to know about your sex life with the missus." The Paladin chuckles as he stumps off to go back to work. "That man I swear..I kinda like him though. He's like that uncle that only swings by for small visits.."

Danse goes along with this since Maxson looked far to amused to say anything just yet. "You have uncles?" Sara blinks as she looks up. "Actually I do, five on my mothers side and one on my dad side. I never got to met the one on my dad's side, because he died a year before I was born. Never really met my mother's family because...well, lets just say my grandmother didn't really treat her well..." Danse nods at this slowly. "How did he die, this uncle of yours." She tilts her head to the side. "Um..I think, he was out drinking with some friends. He fell, or something, hit the back of his head so hard it knocked him into a coma, and he never woke up." Danse flinches at this as he hangs his head. "I am sorry I brought it up." She waves her hands at this. "No worries, like I said I never got to met him, so it's not like I can put a face to it." "So no other family?" "Nope it's just me, which is fine really, it's a lot less drama to deal with honestly." Danse looks down a bit, he didn't remember his parents anymore. For some reason that part of his life was a haze. "Well you have the Brotherhood now." Now Maxson really did seem interested in her answer. "Yeah, I do like the idea of everyone here working as a family. I don't really...talk this much, honest, I'm normally really quiet. It takes me awhile to warm up to people, but I don't have that problem here." She lets out a low chuckle. "You..Nate, Jeff, who, I hadn't seen awhile, he's training to become a pilot. I haven't caught Paladin Floss's name, but he's an honest fellow."

She looks down a bit as she shrugs. "Elder Maxson doesn't seem like a bad sort either. The man did teach me how to use a laser riffle, and putting up with my weird nonsense when that storm kicked up." Danse remained silent, but he was smiling a bit as she talked. "Felt kind of bad though, but I don't think it bothered him much." She tilts her head to the side. "He does seem to enjoy my stories though, I think I bored the poor man when he got me into...probably one of my biggest passions." Danse rises his brow at this. "I can't help it, the minute someone touches on something I'm familiar with, I will, just go...until someone stops me. He did not, which is really surprising because I've gotten the 'please shut up look' quiet a lot..." Danse lets out a low cough. "I've known Elder Maxson for many years." He was acting like he wasn't there, which wasn't easy. "I think he can relate to someone that has the same passion as him. I used to try and smuggle books to him whenever I had the chance. Of course now he can get his own..or apparently go to you." She couldn't help but blush. "You think, I do read a lot...like, to the point where it messed up my eye sight a touch..." It was still nowhere near as bad as it used to be. "Still can't read anything highlighted in red..." Danse lets out a small chuckle. "Well you can see now right?" She places her hand on her face. "Trust me, this is still blowing me away I can see this clearly. I mean it's kind of nice not having to worry about glasses for a change..." She rubs the back of her head. "Still not sure...how or what fixed my vision, but like Hell I'm going to complain!"

Danse decides to drop the act as he stands to attention, saluting. Sara blinks as she turns and quickly does the same. "God damn mother....how long was he there this time?" She was losing her touch on knowing when people were close by. It didn't help she wasn't really focused. Maxson just had the neutral look about him. "Any signs yet?" Danse lowers his arm as he shakes his head. "Negative..." Sara looks up as she hears a faint buzzing sound. Her eyes turn to the console as it starts to spark and crack. Someone was using the interceptor to return, and the whole machine was over heating. Without thinking Maxson steps in front of her and turns his back just as she hears this loud crashing sound. She jolts as he holds her close, Danse covering his own face as the bits of metal go flying. Once the light faded she blinks as she looks up to see how close Maxson was. "Oh my, are you okay!?" He lets out a small grunt and nods. "Fine..." He blushes as he lets her go and they turn to see Nate, just standing there, looking numb. Sara watches him closely, she knew a broken man when she saw one. She moves slowly to check on him. He hadn't noticed her at first, but seeing the base. He was flooded with relief as he lets out a pained scream. He just lets it all out. All his anger, his sorrow, everything he had been holding onto the last couple of days. Sara doesn't think, she just wraps her arms around him as he holds on, letting it all out. "Shh...it's okay..." Danse frowns as Maxson crosses his arm, trying to figure out what he was seeing.

Danse decides to explain, as best he could. "If Nate was looking for his son, if he's back, alone." Maxson slowly lowers his arms as his eyes go wide. Either Nate was to late, or the worse had happened. Maxson wasn't sure what bothered him more. It takes a few minutes before Nate finally seems to collect himself. He takes a small breath as he hands over a holotape over to the Elder. He spoke in a hard toneless voice. "I found...Doctor Li. She...will arrive in a few days, to make sure the Institute won't follow her.." He places his hand near his pocket. He still needed to return to the Glowing Sea to keep his promise. But he felt so numb and Maxson seems to understand. "You did well Knight, if you feel you need time to...grieve your loss, you're free to do so.." Nate looks at Maxson, surprised, but happy at the same time. "Thank you...sir, I'll be back...I just.." Maxson just waves his hand a bit and Nate takes that as a sign. Danse shuffles a bit, and Maxson just nods his head as the Paladin quickly follows after him. Just to make sure he would be okay. Nate wasn't in a good place right now. Sara lets out a low sigh as she shakes her head. "Poor man, I was really hoping for the best.." Maxson turns to look at her, pocketing the holotape for now. "How...did you know what to do?" She looks down a bit. "I've been there..that...emotion, where all you want to do is scream and demand that...everything is wrong...it's...a really draining emotion...trust me. I didn't have anyone to turn to, so I made sure that in the worse case, I could be there when someone needed it..." He slowly nods at this as he looks at what was left of the interceptor. There was nothing left but twisted burnt metal as she lets out a sad sound. "All that work...oh well, it did it's job.." She salutes the equipment.

She turns to him as she feels herself blushing deeply. "Thank you, for earlier." Maxson turns away just a bit, to hide his embarrassment. "You're not in your power armor, I didn't want you hurt.." She smiles as she tilts her head at him. "You're not in armor either, and yet you took the blunt of that explosion." He lets out a low angry huff, trying to remain as calm as he could. "My battle coat works just as good as any armor we have..." She crosses her arms at him. "Sure you keep thinking that." She keeps her mouth shut as she slides over to him. "Still, it was rather...touching.." He looks up a bit as she smirks. "Diffidently plays into the whole knight in shining armor bit, just without the armor in your case.." She smirks as he shuffles, he really didn't know how to act when she pulled this on him. And it was down right adorable watching this harden soldier, turn mush in seconds because it seemed she managed to find some way into his tough exterior. "My you turn red fast." He was right in front of her now, eyes burning. Either it was passion or something else she wasn't sure just yet. "To much?" He takes a deep breath through his nose. "I should make you clean the entire ship, top to bottom, with a single bucket.." Her smirk hadn't left her face as she keeps her eyes on him. "Why, you want to watch?" That did it as he rises his hand, but for the life of him, he was at a lost here as she giggles at him softly. She couldn't hold back anymore, it was far to much. "Consider this as pay back, because...seriously, every time. How are you always behind me, when I break into a random song?" Maxson was only a few inches away from her. "Luck."

"Luck my foot, tell me, did you hear me way back when. That day I was working on those helmets for Ingram?" Maxson turns his gaze to the side as he nods. "I did." Now it was her turn again to blush as she covers her face. "God what a first impression I made.." She lets out a nervous laugh as she shakes her head. "You must think I'm as crazy as they get..." Maxson takes a step closer as she feels herself blush more. "No..I thought it was strange at first." Which was true, he didn't mind people listening to the radio. She was the first to, more or less sing her own brand on music while she worked. "While I may not understand it myself, I find I'm hardly bothered by this...habit of yours." She rubs the back of her head again. "Heh...good to know, next time I'll just save myself the embarrassment and just keep going." Her whole face goes red as he places his hand on her cheek. "I look forward to it." Her legs felt like jello, this man was smooth when he wanted to be. When she dared to met his gaze, she could see a raw emotion there she had never seen before. It made her mouth go dry in a matter of seconds. "So..um..what now?" She lets out a low groan at herself, for turning the moment back to work. He doesn't seem to bothered by this shift. "Knight Thomson said Doctor Li should make her way here in a few days. She's been under the Institute's control for some years. So I might have to question her a bit. He'll be gone a few days himself to...sort things out.."

He runs his thumb over her cheek. A part of him just wanted to hold her there for as long as he could. While his gloves blocked most of what he was able to touch, he could still use his finger tips. And that was enough for him. He wasn't quiet brave enough to try and kiss her. Despite the moments she had surprised him. Not that he would trade that tiny experience, not by a long shot. "We'll continue to get things set up until Doctor Li shows up." He hadn't stopped caressing her cheek. "I should get this holotape to the ship, so we can decode it as fast as possible." She smiles slowly as she nods at him. "With any luck, we can decode where their base is, and once Liberty Prime is in working order. We can transfer that information to the machine for our final assault." That made a lot of sense. "What will happen to it once the war is over? Can't imagine keeping something like that around would help the Brotherhoods image." Plus it was odd that even after the mission the robot just sat there, doing nothing. Maxson seems to give it some thought. "You're...right, keeping something like that might became a liability later...once this war is over, it'll be dismantled again. As a sign to the Commonwealth we are no threat." She smiles brightly at this, she never expected he'd go along with this. She jumps as she hugs him tightly. He flails at this but she does it anyways as she smirks at him. "Glad to hear it sir, so back to business then?" He couldn't say a word as she slowly lets him go. He had to will his legs to move as he turns and make his way back to the Vertibird.
