No one likes GT, lets face it most fans see it as the worst of what happens when Fan Fics get out of hand. However some ideas that came from GT aren't bad, per-say. Lets start off with the beginning, what was wrong with using the regular Dragonballs, were the black star balls really necessary to the story, no okay then. Toss it out. Keep the original Dragonballs. Okay so Pilaf finally gets his hands on them and makes the wish for Goku to be younger so he would be easier to deal with. Bro did you forget that even as a kid he could kick your butt, either way it's still funny. So with the Dragonballs scattered again Goku must find them to become an adult again. However they must wait a year before the Dragonballs can be used again. Here's where some of the ideas that GT came up with that would have worked with the story. Because the Dragonballs had been used far more then in the past it had caused them to over load and start to crack. They now have only six months to find them before they explode and take the Earth with it.

Now why does this work, think about it. In the past the Dragonballs were never used that often, it would take years for people to find them because there wasn't a technology invented yet to locate them until Bulma showed up. Even if she hadn't thought up the idea the Red Ribbon army and even Pilaf had came up with the same idea so someone was bound to find them at some point and keep using them for their own needs, good or bad. {Since the dragon is neutral he doesn't care what the wish is as long as it's in his power to do it}. Anyways, giving the Dragonballs their own personality again is not a bad idea. They had fun with that idea since one of the Dragons remember the wish for panties to stop Pilaf from wishing to rule the world, that's a great nod to Dragonball. Now since they had to kill the Dragons, thus destroying the Dragonballs it wouldn't be that unlikely that new ones had to be made. They did it before after all.

Now for the rest of GT, I think they could have differently dived more into other characters. Show us how android 18 {aka Lazuli} fell in love with Krillin. Show us how Bulma and Vegeta became a closer couple. Things like that, I mean it takes to the Buu saga for Vegeta to finally get it that Bulma and Trunks gave him a reason to keep going. That's character development! But all in all, GT had some good, even if Pan is an annoying little s**t head we can look past that and hope that if Dragonball/Dragonball Z ever gets a proper reboot they put more thought into it.
