Mia's Field Notes
CDR- Chapter One
I never take the bus to school. I tried it one year ago and after having to contend with screaming elementary kids and a bully, I decided that walking was safer. My school was only three blocks away from my house anyway, so it wasn't a big deal. ...well, at least to me it's not.

"Alice," a female voice called up from the stairwell. "Are you sure you don't want me to drive you to school?" I sigh deeply and fling my bag over my shoulder. "No mom, I'll be fine."

My mom thinks that some predator will come and kidnap me. Yeah, like that will happen. In a neighborhood with an extremely low crime rate and friendly neighbors, it's highly unlikely for anyone to pull a stunt like that. But I guess my mom has a good reason for being scared. We used to live in a pretty bad neighborhood a few years ago.

As I rush down the stairs, my mom holds out her hand. I grind to a halt, almost causing me to fall head first to the floor. She looks me head to toe and ruffles my dark brown hair a bit. "There, you look ready to go," she smiled and embraced me. "I'll see you at 4. I love you sweety." I smile and return her embrace. "I love you too, mom."

Even though she can be annoying at times, I still love my mom. I'm worried about her though. She's so stressed at her current job. I would ask her what happened...but I fear what she might say. So, I don't pry about it.

The two of us smile and I rush out the door, not giving anything else another thought. The fresh, fall air graces my face and blows my short, dark-brown hair back. Even with a headband holding my hair in place, I can feel the wind blow and move each strand of my hair. It feels refreshing. I took a few steps towards the sidewalk and started walking towards my schools.

Nothing new, nothing special. Just the same walk I take everyday in this peaceful yet boring suburban neighborhood. Same neighbor watering her plants at exactly 7:35 am. Same newspaper boy delivering papers an hour late. Same creepy cat lady, watching the door for the newspaper boy. Same white wolf staring at-....wait, what?

I stare past the cat lady's house and sure enough sitting at the corner of the street was a white wolf with deep, sapphire eyes. At first I was scared. I mean for all I knew, that thing could jump me at any minute. But the longer I stared at the creature, the more calm I became. It didn't move or seem menacing. It seemed gentle and caring. ...and even familaur. I don't know why, but it felt like I saw this wolf before. I started to walk closer to the creature. But the second I moved towards the wolf, it howled and ran off. "Weird," I said to myself before continuing my route to school. But little did I know that was only the beginning.
