An Artistic Frustration

Moonlit was seated in-doors and in her room, well away from the computer. She was sighing quite heavily and in an upset fashion. She had her art supplies spread out before her. There were most of the standard things: sketchpad, pencils, color pencils, some paint bottles (no brushes), pastel, and crayons. All this and yet after two hours, her paper was still empty. She sighed again. Yup, artist’s bloc.

She couldn’t believe it. She was looking very much forward to the art assignment, but then there came ton loads of homework, all more important than the art assignment. Usually, Moonlit wouldn’t care about that, and just do the art assignment anyway. But her mother decided to intervene in her studies for some reason, and thus, art was left for last. Needless to say, by the time Moonlit got to the art assignment, she was very relieved and very burned out. And after she spread out the materials, artist’s bloc hit.

…Joy…

So Moonlit sat there, upset about a couple of thousand things, and utterly without hope of getting any doodling done that day.
Jade, on the other hand, seemed quite happy to mess with the stuff. He appeared in his tiny, miniature form and grabbed a pencil (which was twice his height), promising Moonlit that he was going to draw her. Moonlit had smiled in amusement, but didn’t stop him. So he started to draw and she started to think.

As Jade dragged and pushed the pencil around, Moonlit couldn’t help but think about what came over her mother to make her intervene in Moonlit’s studies like that. Her mother had never done that before; she usually left her daughter to herself. Sure, Moonlit wasn’t making excellent grades, but she was miles away from failing…maybe something happened? Moonlit’s mom wasn’t the kind of person who got bored easily from whatever that was going on, so…What happened?

As Moonlit wracked her brain with that, Jade had…“finished” drawing. He made a noise in request for Moonlit to look at his finished work. Moonlit let her gaze fall onto the paper and sighed again. If she was in a better mood, she would have burst out laughing or became very insulted that her half-muse drew her like that. She looked like…a sack of potatoes with a stripe across it and another sack of potatoes on top of it. She sighed heavily and shook her head. Jade frowned and walked to the edge of the book, dropped the pencil, and ran to another edge of the paper and started to drag it towards the middle. Moonlit arched her eyebrows at his attempt to flip the paper over. She reached down to help him, but he made an angry noise and said that he wanted to do it. Moonlit let him and watched the rest of his attempt with minute amusement. When he felt that he was done (which was actually less than half the job), he ran back to grab his pencil. Moonlit took that moment to finish flipping the page for him, and he was none-the-wiser about it.

Jade started to draw again, and Moonlit took the time to space out. She remembered that there was a parent-teacher meeting a few days back. Most of Moonlit’s teachers had no problems with Moonlit, and thus wouldn’t have told her parents anything bad. So that wasn’t it. Her mom and dad were on good terms, so nothing from there…Did she do something wrong and this was the punishment?

She racked her brain for whatever it was that she did wrong. Nothing came about. She was quite behaved the last few days, amazingly…

Jade made another noise to indicate that he was done, and Moonlit looked down again. She noticed that he used a different method of art this time, as he drew her as a stick figure with…an oval head. She frowned. Her head wasn’t that fat or long, was it?

From her frown, Jade could tell she wasn’t satisfied, and apparently he knew that his mistake was the head. He repeated his attempt at flipping the page, and Moonlit again finished flipping it for him, and he started again. Moonlit went back to her thoughts.

Ok…So that left one thing: What did her brother tell her parents? What was it that she did to her brother for him to do this? She couldn’t think of anything again. After all, if she behaved the last few days, that means that she didn’t do anything to her brother, did her homework on time, went to bed on time, did the chores properly, etc. So…What was it?

She looked down at the paper to find Jade missing. He had the body of the stick person drawn, but no head. She looked around the supplies to find him messing with the black paint bottle, trying to unscrew the lead.

Moonlit arched her eyebrow and unscrewed the cap. She was instantly concerned that the little guy might fall into the bottle, so instead she squirted some paint on the edge of the paper for him. The half-muse seemed satisfied, and ran to soak his hands into the paint. Moonlit watched as he ran back and started to draw the head of the stick figure with his paint-soaked hands. She looked at him with a look of “What are you planning?”

The half-muse drew the head, which came out to be a pretty decent circle, and started on the glasses on the same way. Moonlit just hoped that he won’t get paint everywhere and then complain about his hands being dirty.

She was in a bit of awe as he inspirationally drew the glasses on, and then drew a chef hat on her head. He drew her bubbly-glove hands, and some strange shoes the same way. As Moonlit watched him draw, something dawned on her, Wait a minute…

She harshly grabbed the little guy from the back of his collar and hoisted him up into the air. He gave out a small “Eep!” as she did so, but didn’t struggle. When she brought him eye to eye with her, she gave him an accusing look and asked, “Did YOU give me this artist’s bloc?” It was a synonymous question with “Did YOU take my inspiration away?”

Jade, completely forgetting his hands were dirty, put his hands on his mouth to try and hide his guilty look. He gave Moonlit a look at clearly said “guilty of crime,” but didn’t say anything. Moonlit was, obviously angry. She frowned at Jade and started to think what would be the best punishment. She noticed Jade’s dirty hands on his mouth, and smirked as she figured out exactly what his punishment is.

Needless to say, it didn’t take long for her to finish the art assignment after that. But it was a loooong while before Jade lost the dark color that covered the bottom of his face.

…Mizu made fun of him soooo much for it, too…

WIN. <33333

You know, it probably IS his fault most of the time.

'Cause when I have artist's block, I also can't draw well at all. :'D
