Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Review
TO ALL SONIC-PLAYING PPLZ: IF YOU THINK THE HEDGIE IS DED, YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVENT PLAYED THIS GAME!!!

srsly, it was great. While most ppl would think that a Sonic RPG is going to suck, you'd be surprised. It keeps alot of the Sonic elements in there and adds some more on it. So, let's talk about it, yes?

Plot: You start the game wtih have just beaten Eggy 2 weeks ago. And Knux and all Chaos Emeralds are gone. He was kidnapped. So, Sonic, Amy, Tails, Rouge, and Cream team up and go out to get him. Turns out that his kidnappers are also after the Master Emerald, and chaos ensues for the whole span of the 10 chapters of the game.

In the course of the game, there's a predicatable plot twist, you go to another dimension, and save the day. It's when you come back from the other dimension you're all, "O.O OMG WHAT!!!" That, in my opnion, is a climax more than an ending, but it makes me rejoice because that means there's another game coming out.

Gameplay: the overworld map keeps alot of the elements of Sonic: jumping, flying, smashing, climbing, the awesome loop-de-loops. the difference, however, is that everything is done with Stylus. thankfully, it's not that complicated and it still looks cool, lol. the lvl ups and abilities you get are nice, especially the bonus points. > w> I maked out Cream's defense. Also, the REALLY cool thing is that the exp you get get shared by ALL charas--in battle or not. VERY useful!

Battle system is styus-heavey too. I'll explain that later.

Characters: I judge charas by how cool they are and how useful they are in battle. i define their usefulness by how much damage they do and to how many enemies they do it to. Also, Imma classify them into groups depending on how many turns they get per "round" of battle. I'll also toss in some attacks in there, which are divided into normal attacks and combo attacks. You have to know that combo attacks take up turns from the all the needed cahras to perform.

3 Turners
Sonic: the main chara and the fastest thing alive....is slower than Shadow. At least, for me he was. He was also less powerful and had less likable attacks than Shadow. Shame I couldnt kick him out of the party. As he is the main hero, he has to be stuck in there.

His normal attacks arent that fancy: Axe Kick and Whirlwind. Whirlwind gets useless after about Ch 5 as no one is weak to wind any more, but Axe Kick remains useful, which i would rather not use so i can use Sonic in combo attacks, where he's more effective.

His combo attacks are Blue Bomber (him and Tails), Spinball (him and Amy), Triple Tornado (him, Knux, and Tails), Hailstorm (him, Kunx, Tails and Amy). TIP: Spinball is the only one that remains useful until the end of the game! Focus on it first! It's the only one that'll deal nice damage and can ALMOST do as good as Echinda Rush, which has got to be the ultimate combo in the game, lol. Blue Bomber is useless because you REALLY dont wanna use Tails up for attack, as he is a healer. Triple Tornado is much like whirlwind, sadly, except alot more powerful at first. Hail storm isnt really great because later on, you'll wind up taking out Amy or Tails, so yeah.

Shadow: What i hated most about him is that if you missed up the combo clickage, HE WOULD MISS. GRR.
other than that, he was great! he has a really cool attack animation and his attacks are whoa strong. really cool.
I was surprised for the fact that he hated Sonic. After SA2, i expected them to be buds of something. *shrug*
He's best buds with Omega and Rogue tho, sot hat was kind of lol. Especially Omega. xP;

His normal attacks are Chaos Spears, Chaos Blast, and Chaos Rift. Chaoes Blast isnt that powerful, but it attacks the target and whatever's around it on both sides. Chaos Spear is kind of random; Shadow launches 2 Spears, which either both hit hte target, or one hits the target and the other hits some other enemy. Chaos Rift has, like, a percentage of KO'ing the enemy, but I wouldnt count on it--not a good percetnage. TIP: Chaos Spear uses the least amount of PP of the normal moves. It also hurts the most.

His combos...Well, one's Atomic Strike (Him and Sonic), and i never looked into the other two, whcih require him and Omega, and him, Omega, and Rogue. With him, I didnt really use combos, as he was more effective alone, but i can tell you that Atomic Strike is like Sonic's Whirlwind, but hurts more and isnt wind-based.


2 Turners
Almost everyone is counted under here, lol.

Amy: She is actually useful. While she doesnt pack speed, she packs alot more Luck than the other hedgies and punch. Her hammer > Kunx's punch, apparently. lol. I love the fact that she made up a boyfriend to try and get Sonic jealous. which, obviously, doesnt work.

Normal attacks: Low Blow (obnoxiously useful), Tantrum (weaker, but has a worse status effect), Blow Kiss (never used it, but it fortifies an ally), Draw Card (apparenly, Amy's a card-reader, lol. Next she's gonna be reading palms. xP; ). She tends to smack enemies with side effects with Low Blow and Tantrum, but I like Low Blow better becasue it does more damage.

Combos: Flower Power, Spin Cycle, and I forget the last one. She comboes with Cream and Big, both of which I refuse to combo with because Cream is a GREAT healer if you use her right and Big is useless for me. Best thing to do with her is take her turns up with Spinball or Low Blow.

Knuckles: It doesnt help you guys that Imma Knux fangirl, lol. So I think he's GREAT! really showed the main badguy at the end of the game, too. Doesnt make for a great guardian, but lol. xD

Normal Attacks: Uppercut (pwnage on one enemy), Earthquake (pwnage on multiple enemies, but is earth-based, so that kind of doenst help AT ALL with the enemies are resistant to earth, lol).

Combos: I dont remember their names. > x< One is with Sonic and the other is with Rogue. The Sonic combo (OH! IT'S CALLED REVOLVER SLAM! I remembered! xP; ) is alot more impressive, but its best to save Knux for Echinda Rush.

Rogue: I'm sorry, but she becomes more and more useless as the game progresses. I kind of kicked her out. v.v

normal Attacks: Tornado Kick (semi-useless), Jewel Storm (semi-useful on all enemies), Plunder (Steal stuffs), Distract and Scream (never used, but both do status effects to enemies)

Combos: NONE. sucks, right? xD

Shade: Our new Chara! She's an Echinda, and a GIRL, so I'm not sure how I like her being ont he same team as Knux. HMMM. ninja VERY useful tho!

Normal Attacks: Cloak (didnt really use), Blade Rush (lay a smackdown AND absorb HP! >3 ).

Combos: Echinda Rush (This is SEGA's version of the Ultima attacks, ppl! xP; takes both Echindas to work), Blade Drop (Sonic is needed, and while he doesnt recover HP, Shade does.)
...Im missing one more thing there..OH YEAH. SHe has an attack with Shadow and Omega(i think) too, whcih, again, I never used. xP;

Tails: Almost missed the kid, lol. Super genius kid is even waay cooler when he teams up with Eggman to do stuffs, lol. Nerd boy is so cute, lol.

Normal Attacks: Medibot (Heal and Regen together! its his most useful technique), Sheildbot (sheilds, duh?), Hyper (Haste anyone?), Tinker (messes with a robot to make him weak), and I forget the last one. Either way, I only used Medibot with him.

Combos: none.

1 Turners

Eggman: THE MAN WITH THE PLAN IS ON OUR SIDE, YAY! he is astoundingly useful for that shor period of time you get him. and No, he's not good guy for good.

Attacks: Bomrbard/Bombardment (he casually walks up suspecious-like towards the enemies and then DROPS BOMBS ON THEM! MWAHAHAHA! x3 )

Combo: Sabotage (with Tails; They go up and tinker with a robot. if done right, 90% chance of insta-KO)

Big the Cat: dumb dumb dumb and i cant belvie that we HAVE to use him! Dx Best thing he did was burst out with the whole, "I KNOW! Give BIG ICECREAM!" scene. which was major lols. xP;

Normal Attacks: Froggy Rain (...rains frogs. not that useful), Battering Ram (his most useful attack), Froggy kiss (posion), Feel No Pain (heals himself), and i have no idea what the last one is, but equally distasteful.

Combos: none.

E-123 Omega: He's an optional cahracter, surprisingly. i freaking love this all-capital case talking robot. when you first find him, he tries to fry Eggman, Tails tries to stop him, so he tries to fry Tails. Shadow and Rogue had to stop him from doing so. xP;; Hitting Attack on him is very rewarding, methinks. Such a good bot~

Normal Attacks: Flamethrower (VERY useful, but doesnt deal more than 150 damage), Machine Gunner (attacks with guns. 8D ), and I dunno the rest. One does Hyper and Phase (evade), and the other are attacks, i think.

Combos: None.

Cream: She's an optional character, too, but she's waaay useful. To get her, you have to find Cheese, who's gone missing. What's really cool about her is that even tho she goes only once, she uses her abilites on EVERYONE. plus, to Attack, she chucks Cheese at the enemies. xP; What sucks about her is that if you miss even ONE piece of the combo, it fails. D:

Normal Attacks: Heal (heals HP), Recover (removes status effects), Revive (i dont think that one needs explaining, lol), Refresh (heals PP, which I eat up VERY fast), and i forget the name for the last one, but it distracts the enemies. I think it was Demoralize.

Combos: none.

Battle System: It's a turn based system, so Moonlits, I just lost ur interest here. xD;; You get graded, but it doesnt count for anything. you get items out of the battle, but not money. You can sell the items off for Rings (the money!), lol. The battle works in Rounds, which is pretty much usual. What's really cool is that if you're lucky, you get to ambush ppl! a whole free round where ur charas just do basic attack! x3

Another cool thing is that if your enemies decide to flee while you're decimating them, you are giving the chance to catch them!...and vice versa if you flee. xP;

what i liked AND hated was that for anything past the basic attack, you had to tap, smash, or scroll where needed to do the combo. i hated it because if I missed it for my charas, their attack will go down condierably or worse, miss. i loved it becasue with it, i could completely dodge the enemy's attack or reduce it to one damage. >3

It got kind of tough at times, but at other times, you breeze right through it. I enjoyed it, and it reminded me of FF4 DS, for some strange reason. Also, I shouldnt forget to mention that only bad thing that i found--the most PP that any chara will get wont get over 20 unless you max our ur lvl (30). So PP healing is VERY important!

Graphics and Mooosic: Pretty! I looove the comic cutscenes, where it literally turns into a comic. I also love the battle music and the boss music. Central City's music reminds me of PW's Tres Bein, lol. Some musics could have been better, but it was good. -w-

Status Stuff and Equipment: Status first: Attack, Defense, Speed, and Luck. Attack increased attack power while Luck increases chances of critical. Speed gives the ability to go first in battle and also increases the chance of dodging. Defense lessesns the damage you take, and also helps with the dodging. It's a sweet deal.

Equipment: On each cahra, you equip shoes, gloves, accessories, and Chao. xP;;; it's fun! TIP: always have the Chaos Hayda and Joy around--they heal HP and PP at the end each round!

Consumables: yup, that's right, you have healing items and stuffs! At times, you pop them like candy, at others, you dont touch them unless its an emergency. fun.


what else?...i think i got it all.
SO.
I cant wait until the next game comes out.
it's gonna pwn.
i give this game a VERY solid and confident 8/10. All it needs is a REALLY good plot twist and i'm happy! heart heart

I love this game!
