Shauna walked through the cemetery, the mist swirling around her as she moved. This was her domain and always would be, she guarded not only the gates of the cemetery but also the gate to the after life. The living and the dead could see her. The living saw her as a young woman, the dead saw her as death. Both figures clothed in black, just the body the dead could see glowed with a strange light almost as if she were a ghost herself. She would move from head stone to head stone looking at all the names and dates and remembering the number that was buried beneath that one gravestone. A grave yard was the best place for the after life gate to be held. Spirits would make their way here not knowing where else to go. She had loved this graveyard from the first time she laid eyes on it. There was only one entrance in, the back was a thick forest and a fog always seemed to creep over the grounds at night. People rarely ventured here for it was the grave yard for those with no family to speak for them. The headstones were always marked "John Doe" or "Jane Doe" Followed by a number. For 5 years those headstones would stay, then they would be removed, the body of the previous 'doe' disintegrated and replaced with a fresher body. She knew the real names of every body put into the ground. It was her job to know. She knelt in front of one of the headstones near the back of the property, mumbling a silent prayer for all the dead that lay beneath her feet.
