Chapter 1
Kira felt sweat beading down her forehead, the stupid air conditioner still wouldn't turn on. It was the middle of Summer, about a hundred degrees, and no stupid air conditioner. None at all!
She looked over at her friend, Jacob, who was fast asleep. How he could ever sleep in a toaster like this she would never know.
Kira started to feel a little over heated, she slammed her hand against the dashboard, feeling a light tingle in her palm.
Finally the air kicked in and ice blew into the car.
Jacob turned his head slightly, his bangs falling infront of his eyes.
They had been friends for as long as she could remember. He was always there for her and she for him.
Jacob let a small shiver ripple down his spine. Kira reached out and turned the air down, quickly feeling a change in tempurature. This car may have been old but it cooled down very quickly.
They had been having car problems lately so it probably wasn't a very good idea to go on a road trip in this particular car. They were taking every back country road and scenic route they could. Again, not a good idea.
Now she was driving down a desserted road, dust flying everywhere around the car, and she was getting closer to being sure she was lost.
Kira hit a large rock causing one side of the car to become airbourne then slam then slam back into the ground. Thank goodness for seatbelts. She jerked to one side then striaghten back up.
Te smell of burning rubber flared in her nostrils. Jacob snapped awake just as his head smacked into the window.
The car slid to a stop, a cloud of dust surrounding the entire car, Jacob grabbed the side of his head.
Kira looked over at Jacob was was massaging his temples.
Hows that for a wake up call? Kira wondered, watching Jacob to make sure he wasn't seriously injured.
He looked over at her, his light blue eyes questioning, his blonde hair a rats nest on top of his head.
"Hit a rock." Kira muttered, forcing a grin onto her face.
"Did the car break down?" He asked, trying to see through the cloud of dust that had rose from its silent grave.
He pushed open the passenger door and stepped out of the car, slamming it shut behind him.
Kira sat there for another moment the followed. She walked around to the front bumper which Jacob had already popped open.
"A cord was puched back into the fan." Jacob grumbled, both hands on the top of the front cover. He leaned over to examine to damage further.
"There's no way to fix it, is there?" Kira asked, looking over Jacob's shoulder. He shook his head.
"I saw a sign a few miles back for an Inn, it should be just ahead." Kira said, the slightest hint of hope in her voice.
"Alright then, grab the car keys and lock the car doors. We'll come back later." Jacob closed the front of the car as Kira opened the drivers side door and grabbed the keys.
