So dudes. Today started out at the shittiest day ever. First off, it's been gray and rainy for the past like... at least 4 days, so it's been depressing and gloomy and sleepy and s**t. Secondly, you SO want to know this, but I've got my period, so I'm already irritable, hormonal, and in pain (TMI, I know, but whatever, it's my damn journal right... and at least this means I'm not pregnant). I set my alarm later so I could sleep but that extra fifteen minutes did nothing for me. I really wanted to call in sick to work but it's only a 4 hour shift I had today so I was like "what the ********. I'll just go and get it over with." Well I got put in the dish room (fine) but I was on unloading which was more movement than my cranky cramping self wanted, so I did that for a while but after my break I asked to be moved to the line to dump trays so I could stand still. I did get moved, but while I was sitting down and wiping my face, my nose stud (it was a bone, not a screw) popped out and fell. I went to the bathroom and took off my shirt to see if it was in there but it was gone and I couldn't find it, so I was pissed because I had to go downtown to the piercing place to buy a new one. I was calling 411 on my break to get the number and try to call them and see how late they are open, but I got no answer, but one of the managers who has a few tattoos and a nose ring told me they were open till 9 PM so I was glad to hear that. This marks the turning point to my day since this was a good news and also near the end of my shift.
So I got off work and caught the bus to go home and a friend of mine was driving it, so we talked on the way to my stop. I went home for a little bit to change clothes and chill out before going downtown and looked for the latest House episode (I work on Monday nights, so I always miss its broadcast on TV). I thought I'd missed it a week ago, but it turns out it aired only 2 days ago so I didn't think I would find it online to watch, but I did find it, so I didn't have to wait another week to catch it!!
After that, I called my friend who was driving the van tonight and asked him to take me downtown to get a new nose stud. He took me and I called to check my bank balance, thinking I was down to rent money with minimal food money. But lo and behold, my balance was rent money plus more than enough food money (I get paid this Friday), so I was like "Dude. I had a bad day and I have money. I want a new piercing." So I went in there and the piercer dude was out for coffee.
Once the dude came back, there had been someone waiting in front of me to buy some jewelry, so I took a seat and talked to the girl who came in with him. It started out because I looked at her a couple times because she looked familiar and had a really cool-looking hairstyle, and I told her that and explained that it's a good thing if I look at you more than once because it means you're familiar/interesting, so like if I look at you only once it means I'm not interested or zoned out. So that started a conversation with her, and it turns out she was there for an anthropology class project, an ethnography (I think that's what it was) thing where she was researching the consumption patterns of piercings... so basically she interviewed the people who went in there for the day to get piercings and wrote down what they said. She had done it previously with tattoos. She didn't really ask me any questions because I just talked about it and pretty much said it all.
Once I finished talking to the cool anthropology chick and the piercer was free, I asked for a new nose stud first then told him I wanted another piercing as well. I didn't remember what it was called, so he brought out a photo book of different ear piercings. Turns out it's called a rook, which is the one I wanted. So I was filling out the form and he asked if I'd eaten lately. No. My lunch break was at 1:30, and it's not 8 PM, so I'm due for a meal. So he told me to go get some food and come back in a bit.
I went to a diner that was next door (didn't wanna go too far away so I'd actually spend the time eating and not walking to find food), and I had a cool sandwich called "Edison Conception" or something. It was corned beef with cheddar and a fried egg on toasted rye. Also got fries and a drink, of course (my piercer told me to "carb up" so that I would have enough sugars in my system to balance out the adrenaline from the piercing so I wouldn't faint like I did with my eyebrow). I was jacked up on caffeine from my Diet Coke (yum) when I went back, so I asked if smoking a cigarette before getting the piercing done would be bad and he said it was fine if it would relax me/if I wanted to, so I did. I was chilled out some and got the nose stud put back in (luckily it didn't close up while the stud was absent), then the new piercing happened.
I personally think my eyebrow hurt worse, but this one was an odd pressure sensation, and now there's that dull pain that is inevitable with a new piercing/any kind of wound. It's strange to say but I quite like the dull pain I just described. I can make it a slightly more shooting pain if I wiggle my ear (I can do that without using my hands, I mean, just like wiggle the ears by themselves). It sure deflects from the abdominal cramps, so if I get a bad one I can just wiggle the ears. >.< That sounds pretty sick, but hey. And sleeping on it will probably suck a bit, but won't be the worst ever since it's more inside the ear. Oh and when I was paying, I was talking to the piercer and he got me all excited for when this one heals and I get some more money, I can get another hoop placed near this one for a double-rook thing! It sounds SO kick-a**, and I can't wait!!!
But in the immediate future, I'm looking forward to grossing my friend Rob out with it on Friday night when we hang out on his bus (just for a friendly goof, of course). He's really cool and the opposite of me with needles: He's ok with medical needles but is grossed out by piercings, whereas I'm ok with piercings but still freak out with medical needles. [=
Photographic evidence of my cool piercing journey below. Later dudes!
