Obiageli's Journal
Hi, I am Obiageli. I am the daughter of my father's first wife. My sister Ezinma is my father Okonkwo's favorite child, but I do not mind so much as we are very close.
nno--kweno, join me for some palm wine and foo foo.
nno--kweno
Welcome to my home.

My hut is in my home village of Umuofia.

I do not have modern things, however, friends are always welcome to stop by for some yam foo foo or to drink some palm wine.

Do drop by, when you do, I will rise and shake your hand.

You will then more than likely unroll the goatskin which you will carry under your arm and sit down. I will bring a small wooden disc containing a kola nut, some alligator pepper and a lump of white chalk.

"I have kola," I will announce to you as my guest.

"Thank you. He who brings kola brings life. But I think you ought to break it," will be your reply as you pass back the disk.

"No, it is for you, I think," we will argue like this as is our custom before I will accept the honor of breaking the kola.

I, meanwhile, will take the lump of chalk draw some lines on the floor, and then paint my big toe.

As we break the kola, I will pray to our ancestors for life and health, and protection against our enemies.

This is the way we always greet our friends. I hope you will join me soon, please be prepared, as you now know the customs of my village.

Please join me again and often.
