From a plain old house I come Leaving Jamie, Maxie, dad, and mum Too bad Cissy comes with me The price to leave, a sordid fee
Upon arriving at the castle In Hogwarts uniform (what a hassle!) Riding creaky boats to cross the lake Fear and anticipation make us quake
Waiting in a room so small Yet fantastic in size - just off the hall Lion, badger, raven, snake Which better students would us make?
A teacher fetches us to the Great Hall A grander place has not been at all For sparkling gold goblets, plates, and silverware Laid out on linen with the utmost care
And warm light and chatter loud With the night sky above - and not even a cloud! If anywhere else such an atmosphere could be found It would be forced, too tightly wound
Then there was silence and a hat spoke to us Too think such a simple task caused such a fuss All we had to do was put on a hat And I'd been told I had to fight a twenty-foot gnat!
It said in a poem is summarized thusly: It would pick from our head our qualities justly A Gryffindor is brave and a Slytherin sly A Ravenclaw bookish and a Hufflepuff shy
When it was my turn, I put on the hat Though I did not like it in my head and said just that It took so very long to choose Though I suspect it was just a ruse
For there is just one house for me I'm not a snake nor a lion as anyone can see In Ravenclaw I would do just fine But that choice is not really mine
For I want friends Not to meet my ends Nor rush into battle Nor hear my prattle
I want a friend to listen to me To be there for me To speak to me the truth And when I'm down for my benifit to goof
The house of black and yellow Nice folks there - happy yet mellow A badger's den will be my nest For friendship is what 'Puffers do best!
