I step forward assuredly, confident that my skills and experience will see me through this battle. I will probably not come away unscathed, but I will come away alive. Drawing my sword, I take my normal defensive stance, shield on my left arm, sword comfortably resting in my right hand.Although I knew this would probably be one of my toughest and longest battles yet, I settled into my battle mindset easily.
I nodded at my opponent, a middle-aged man with a patch of fuzz on his face. His weapon was the same as mine, a short sword, but he carried no shield. He nodded in turn and our battle began.
We circled each other, watching intently. I waited for him to make the first move and he did, making a vicious lunge toward my heart. I pulled my shield in front of his blade, which glanced off with a 'chinging' sound. As the blade of my opponent had begun to hit my shield, I swung my blade fiercely in a half-circle, aiming for the gap between the armour on his left shoulder. He stepped to the side and I only left a small nick in his armour. Again we circled and my ears did not even hear the taunts he threw at me. He lunged again in the same way as before and I swung my sword from my right across to the left in front of me, pushing his sword to the side. They met with a loud clang that echoed around the icy cave. My hand vibrated with the force of the hit, making my fingers go slightly numb as I clutched the hilt of my sword. Suddenly he pulled back and stabbed forward on my right side, where my sheild did not protect me. I leapt to the side, but not quick enough and I gasped as his sword sliced along my side. A wound almost the length of my hand ran horizontally along my ribcage. Judging by the amount of blood that was seeping through my shirt, I knew that I would have to end this quickly, or I could be in trouble.
He withdrew again, but only for a few seconds. Lunging at me, he thrust his sword towards my chest again and I parried it to the side once more, with more force this time. My sword vibrated more violently this time as the clang echoed around the caves once more and I lost feeling in my hand. The fury burning in my chest told me to finish him off quickly, before I lost too much blood. I obediently listened to it.
Aiming the point of my sword at his chest, I thrust my weight and stength into it as he was still withdrawing his sword. He wore a heavy leather tunic studded with metal over his shirt and my sword did not penetrate very far. It did, however, manage to knock him off balance. I saw a look of slight shock on his face as I took a swing at him, whirling my sword from left to right. I gave him no second chance as I beared down upon him, raining blow after blow. His sword met mine with a clash each time, but I could tell he was getting nervous. As I struck again and again, I noticed his movements start to slow a bit. He was getting worn out from my violent onslaught and I was getting closer to victory. I saw his hand tremble evr so slightly and I took the oppotunity that was opened to me. I swiftly brought my blade up and slashed from right to left, slicing open his throat. He fell upon the icy floor with a thud.
