when you take away the freedom to choose, you present people with a choice between happiness and freedom, and you insist that they're mutually exclusive. when you choose to ban something, you're telling them that you know what's better for them than they do, as if you've had their experiencces and had their lives on telescreen. you tell them that if they have the freedom to choose, that they know no better and will choose the option you find to be the wrong one. that won't make them happy because it doesn't make you happy. take away their freedom and convince them that they're happy that way.
