Why do I need this again?

And why are you here?

And for that matter, why am I?
Chapter 3, The Hoardes
Ian carefully put his dishes in the sink before reaching for his tea thermos. His hat and coat were already on and he left his house serenely. Ian checked to make sure the door was locked before heading into Barton Town to his boutique.
It was just after eight when he slid the key into the door; someone tackled him from behind. Ian yelped. It was Kittu, the white haired wing buyer from yesterday, and several days before as Ian remembered. The short girl had latched her arms around her chest in a death grip and was starting to shove him.
"Quick!" She wailed from behind him, "Get inside before anyone else shows up!"
Ian was confused but let himself and Kittu into the shop; Kittu promptly shut the door and locked it again. Ian could see several people emerge from the coffee shop down the street to confirm his arrival and they quickly set out for the boutique. Just as quickly, Kittu started closing every blind and drape in the store. Ian's puzzled look became more prominent as the normally sweet girl took over his shop in a panic.
"Kittu," Ian pulled the girl away from the last window, "what are you doing?"
The girl pouted at him. "I'm sorry, I really am, but I HAD to! You're just too nice and you gave me that discount on my wings, I couldn't let them attack you!"
Now Ian was really confused. "Attack me?! Who's attacking me?"
"THEM!!" Kittu pointed wildly at the bolted door, indicating the growing crowd outside.
"Kittu, maybe you should explain to me just what is going on."
The white haired girl launched into an explanation about her friend Arieta's encounter with Liam the previous night. "...and his fangirls are out for your blood!" She finished, winded.
Now that Ian had a full grasp of the situation, he shook his head. "I'm sure whatever Liam said was out of context to your friend. This is just a misunderstanding. Yes, I met Liam yesterday afternoon, but just yesterday afternoon. He's a nice guy but I don't even kiss on the first date let alone give "makeout sessions" or whatever," he joked calmly.
"Yeah yeah," Kittu huffed, "you try to be calm now, but when they get you you're a goner. I've seen Liam's fans in action, they're crazy! They swarm like a pack a' pirahnas! And you can be as secure about your sexuality as you want, "Ian flushed at this, "but they're not gonna believe anything they don't want to." She pointed outside again. The door was jiggling now and the tone of the crowd had grown rather unfriendly.
Ian mused at the door.
"Want me to call your fanclub?" Kittu offered.
Ian smiled back at her, "No. I want you to call the police and see if they'll run crowd control. And call and get yourself a ride home." Kittu nodded and skittered off to the phone while Ian went about getting ready for opening. He cast an uncharacteristically nervous glance at the door he would be obligated to open at eight thirty.
Kittu scampered back in after five minutes. "They're sending an officer right away to make sure nothing happens and my friend Rebbecus, as much as she hates getting up early, says she'll come an' give me a ride home."
Ian smiled and thanked her. Kittu sat up on the counter to get out of Ian's way, as she had no idea what went into opening a store in the morning. At five twenty two a police officer pushed his way through the crowd to bang on the front door of the Barton Boutique. A grumpy looking girl with frumpled purple hair covered by a bandana and sunglasses already on snuck in with him and rushed over Kittu on the counter. The officer talked to Ian for a few minutes before going out and lecturing the crowd before Ian opened the doors for them. Rebbecus and Kittu snuck out the back, Ian thanking them both.
