Chapter One
She ran as fast as she could, her steel booted feet barely touching the ground. Tears flowed from her bloodshot eyes. The scenery swished by her, the edge of the cliff approaching closer. She dug her heel's into the ground, the dirt turning up as she grounded to a halt at the very edge of the headland.

"********!" She screamed out in the lava ridden abyss, flinging her arms back, fists clenched.

She grabbed a stone by her feet and flung it angrily, it zoomed through air, flying so fast that you could hear it whoosh! It plopped a few hundred feet from where it once lain, the epicentre of the ripples sizzling and bubbling. She dropped to the floor, her knees hunched up to her cheeks, gloved elbows resting on her knees, hands, grasping and pulling on her hair.

"Godamnit" She sobbed, snivelling, letting the tears roll down dirt and blood clad cheeks.

A strong wind blew, blowing dust in her already reddened eyes could this day become any worse? she questioned herself.

"No, it couldn't, in fact, things are about to get a little better for you" Whispered a male voice very close behind her "Are you crying Selene?".

He put a hand on her bare shoulder, shifting her her violet hair onto the other shoulder.

"No, no I'm not Trai, so just please, back off" She swished a silvery tail violently in his direction, knocking him of balance and causing him to land on his a**. He crawled back towards her, pawing down her tail as he went" Trai, piss off! I just want to be alone!" She snapped, swiping her clawed arm blindly backwards.

Trai, with his other hand grasped onto her clawed hand "Selene, calm down you'll get another chance, she'll give you another chance. That's partially why I'm here"He muttered.

She looked into his dark red eyes in confusion, her rage dissipating, the tension within her tail drooping, her hand falling into his.

"Yeah, we have been offered redemption, Selene, this is our big break. One mission on earth, one success and we have a reserved fate in the elite, the protection of Dragons, everywhere!" He shook with joy, eye's sparking up, tail burning up, the flame bigger by twice fold.

He wiped the tears from her eyes, and kissed her forehead" Get your soldier face on, and meet me by the monument in fourty five minutes. You need to pack everything, spell books, food, clothes, equipment, invisibility generator, everything. You'll need to morph, you haven't done it in a while so I suggest meditation before flight to get you back into the swing of it. Also we have to use the portal".

Her eye's widened she stuttered" The portal? Are you of your ******** rocker? You know how dangerous it is for me, I..I..I".

"Don't worry" he intervened" You'll be safe, keep this locket on until we get to the other side and no longer otherwise there will be side affects and you don't want to know what they are".

He stood up releasing his tawny, splotchy coloured, amphibious wings. Letting them flap about before gathering an up-draft and forcing himself of the ground and high up into the air before setting of westwards, opposing the setting sun.

She smiled, looking up and shaking her head, what a show off. Another chance, she liked the sound of that.

Forty five and a meditation later the two were ready to leave, the monument of Duhurst the brave standing fiercely over them. Selene tightened the strap around her waist that kept her main and secondary backpack strapped securely together. Trai adjusted the clay helmet sat upon his head (it was made out of the fire and strength of the very first dragon, before evolution took it's course and dragons could morph into human states. Very expensive, totally irreplaceable) and tightened up his black leather stealth top. He wrapped his shaggy hair up in a tight ponytail, the ponytail stuck out straight but it was out of the way. Selene placed her battered war helmet on her head, it was cold but that would soon be changed with her body temperature being around 50'c.

"You ready?" Muttered Trai.

She nodded defiantly, determined to prove to herself, to everyone, she was not a failure.

"Wait! Wait! Jesus Christ will you at least look in my direction!" Panted someone loudly coming up from their rear, the two flicked their heads around to see who was clumsily stumbling there way. When he arrived, ready to collapse, he thrusted a C-D sized gadget into Trai's hands. It had a thick black edge the middle like green tinged, plastic graph paper "A message, from the elders, it's your briefing" He said before sighing once more, and running again, not everyone could fly.

Trai placed a finger on one of the square's and a green 3-D image of an elder cropped up. She was one of the few females around, but was by far the oldest. She was tall, willowy, with swift flowing mane of silver hair, you wouldn't believe she was part of the fire clan. Especially from her eyes, they were a bright, piercing blue unlike everyone Else's who were varieties of red.

"Trai, Selene, greetings. I am giving you this message to tell you in a bit more detail about your mission" Selene shyed away not looking but still listening intently" You shall be joined a variety of creeds and races. One from the water clan, one from the wind clan, twins from the psychic clan, and a human, she is a protector of the dragons. Treat her with respect, that is for the both of you. You shall go to the Dover coast, in England, there is a safe house. Get acquainted with your team mates, you shall receive more information and gadgets in a couple of days. Good luck" Then she dissipated a haunting smile sat upon her face.

Trai sighed" Team mates? And bonding? Selene, don't you dare leave my side".

His hands flamed up in a fiery red glow, eye's rolled into there sockets as he chanted the incantation. There was inward blast of wind and a reddy orange portal blasted into existence, swishing and swirling in a clockwise direction. Selene nodded at him when he guested towards the portal. Focusing all her energy, she concentrated. He bones started to crack and reshape, muscle tear, pull and push. Skin change into a silvery glow then being replaced with scales stronger than steel more flexible that elastic. A tail painfully shot out along with four horns that sat upon her head, pointed and jagged.

They stepped through, there two huge clawed, scaly paws, interlocked in preparation for a mind blowing experience. Selene was desperate to scream out. Everything was passing by so quickly, worlds, weird placed, they all just whizzed by. Then it seemed to slow down, the vortex seemed to make everything swirl and at a very slow rate it was enough to drive anyone crazy. Selene tried to spark up a funnel of flame but it just steamed up in her mouth. She looked over into Trai's eyes, he looked fearless but deep down he was as afraid as her.

She closed her eyes and when she dared to look again everything had slowed down, grinding to a complete stop. The portal seemed to become smaller, and smaller. Then they were spat out. They landed on the ground bounced back up and when they landed again rolled over until they completely stopped. They seemed to have landed right on the cliff edge, Selene took in her surroundings. She didn't know whether it was because of instinct or her enhanced dragon eyes but the Dover coast was that of natural beauty and something about it seemed do dragon friendly. It had a naturally positive yet ancient aura.

Trai tapped her on the back knocking her out little world waking her to the reality. They were still in dragon form. It took a painful ten minutes to transform back for her, Trai was done in seconds, she needed to work on it, a lot.

"Finally" Chuckled a voice from behind them" You fire clan's folk always fashionably late! Hurry up! This way!".

Trai raised his eyebrows as they walked together" Let's go meet the family then" He spoke sarcastically
