Deep discussion... with myself!
What is the purpose of living?
This is a big one to start out with, but it should be clarified where my views stand.
The purpose of living is to be happy. Everyone wants to be happy. Everything everybody does is to benefit their happiness -- no exceptions!
You may think giving to a charity, or letting your sibling have the last scoop of ice cream, is not just to make you happier, but it is. It makes you feel better when you are nice to people; thus, you are benefitting yourself.
Now, you may ask, why is that the purpose of living?
And I answer, because there is nothing else. We live for ourselves, and this isn't a bad thing. In order to help ourselves, to increase our happiness, we do things that will a) make us feel good, or b) give us things that will help us do things that make us feel good; i.e., inventing a better mode washing. Not only do you feel proud, having earned recognition among your fellows, but also you hold the rights to your invention and will earn money off of it, enabling you to buy things like chocolate and movies, which make you happy.
But what purpose to we hold, us tiny creatures, among the multitude?
I can't answer that. All I know is that we live to be happy, and that's all we should worry about. If there is something greater we'll know when it happens; for now all we can do is enjoy ourselves as much as possible --
There is an exception to this.
Do everything to increase your happiness, or do things that will increase your happiness in the future, as long as this does not impend on the happiness of others. To a certain degree, of course. If buying the last sandwich makes you happy, but it will make the other person who didn't get a sandwich sad... that's all right. But if stealing a candy bar will make you happy but make the store manager unhappy... that's not all right.
We hold the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And property rights. Don't take something that doesn't belong to you. By 'rights' I don't just mean legal rights, but I also mean moral ones. You know it's not morally right to steal that candy bar, but you don't have to feel very guilty about buying that last sandwich. The other guy can buy a pizza.

The purpose of living is to be happy. So. Let's be happy, and do the things we like to do. But don't forget to do things you don't like as much if they'll make your life better in the future; like homework. I think most people can agree that homework isn't fun. But if it will ensure a job later on, a job that will enable us to buy the things we like, then it's worth it. Well, it's worth it to me; if it's worth it for you, only you can decide.
Thank you.

    Bravo! *claps*
    You're cool. smile

I never thought of the purpose of life as happy and stuff. I just viewed the purpose as living.
But yeah, pursuit of happiness is what ya gotta do.

    I liked your speech.
