Maine. Have you ever been? It's a beautiful place. When I was young, my grandparents would summer there and we would often visit. As a result, I came to love it. There are many fond memories of times spent with them and the places we'd visit as part of our annual tradition. My grandparents have passed and it's been a few years since I went, but finally made it back.
My family was unable to go, due to work. It wasn't the same without them, but still great in many other ways. We broke the usual traditions and explored new and different areas.
I live in a beach community and people will ask me, "Why are you going to a beach for vacation when you live at the beach?". My answer is always the same, "It's a very different type of beach". It's the truth. The beaches in Maine have a very different feel. They seem more powerful, broader, deeper, vibrant and wilder.
The entire vibe of Maine is different. It feels like time slows down and a weight lifts from your shoulders. It's quite an experience.
The food is great. The seafood is always super fresh and therefore, super tasty.
We hiked, swam, biked, sunbathed and spent most of our time outdoors. The weather was superb, except for one day. We always stay in York, but explored the surrounding towns. On an overcast day, we went to a few open houses to check out some real estate, just for fun. Prices there are very reasonable and summer rentals are lucrative. Who knows, maybe one day I'll invest in some property.
If you've never been to Maine, I highly recommend it. It will provide a very relaxing and refreshing vacation. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
