In the year 2025, the United States had developed a unique bio-weapon, a virus known as the Judas Project. It was a mutation of the measles virus, piggybacked on the original DNA. It was designed to be carried into an affected area by native wildlife, slip in undetected, and destroy whole civilizations. They tested it on a number of animal hosts and found that mosquitoes and rats were the most effective. It was then decided that they would test it on a large scale, a remote island in the South Pacific. What they were not prepared for was for it to spread beyond its borders. Now with a international epidemic of this supervirus, governments of nearly all the United Nations have begun to point fingers at each other. The US knew that it was only a matter of time before the virus reached its shores. To prepare, they hosted a lottery among wealthy families to select 5,000 people to be taken down into an underground facility to wait out the coming storm. It was thought, by most, that the American Culture had to be preserved. Most weren't so lucky. As the disease sweeps through the US, it becomes apparent that anyone who had the measles virus at any point in their life were immune, and survived the Judas Plague. The countries still unaffected unanimously decided to wipe out the virus using nuclear means, targeting Washington DC and several other key points. Those that remained, in retaliation, launched a full nuclear offensive, kicking off WWIII. The resulting nuclear winter caused other chain reactions in the very chemistry of the earth, causing catastrophic earthquakes and destructive radiation. It was the end of the world as we knew it.
Present Day: The year is 2026. A year after the apocalypse. One year after all recognizable life vanished from Earth. Some were prepared. Others were not. Those that remained have Now, man has emerged into a world they can scarcely recognize as Earth. What once was lush rain-forests are now dry-boned deserts, and oceans are constantly freezing and melting. Mountains are covered in poisonous plants and trees. Nothing and no one is safe anymore. With creatures that have adapted to the harsh and nearly inhospitable planet, monstrous animals much like the creatures of hell. The weather is unpredictable, and as deadly as the landscape. With acid rain and debris-strewn dust storms, tsunamis and massive volcanoes, the world is constantly changing. The humans can travel only at night, as the sun gets much too hot to travel by day and firestorms are common. With only a few resources, and each other, these young humans must adapt to their new surroundings, or die trying. Welcome to the daRcsYde, the daRcsYde Ae.
