Inspiration turned Fiction
I'm bored and interested in writing, that's all the reason and the description that I need for this...
He Had to Let Her Go
After that final encounter with Jelorent, she was the last thread of sanity that kept him from slipping. Slipping into the mindless rage that was his inner animal. Constantly the beast was scratching at the barrier that separated them, wanting control. She was the one that kept him as the dominant soul in his shared body. And he had to let her go.

Gemma was beautiful, smart, and kind. The woman that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, if he was perfectly honest. He remembered the day he asked her out, the day that they decided to make their relationship exclusive, the very first time she admitted that she loved him, even the day that she began to lose interest. His eyes darkened at the sudden memory. In sadness.

He knew her better than she knew herself, and the same could be said for her. It wasn't all that hard to see the signs. An excuse here, a denial there, the lack of love in her eyes when she looked at him. For him, it was plain as day. Gemma was in denial, clinging to whatever she felt for him in the past. There was no doubt in his heart that she was cheating on him. No doubt that she was in love with someone else.

The realization hurt, more than when Jelorent stabbed him in the chest. More than when his mother was murdered by the corrupt ex-King. But... her happiness was the one thing that mattered most to him, to see that gleeful smile was to ensure another day of sanity. And to make her happy, he had to let her go. Even if he didn't want to.

Damien adopted a bittersweet smile as he watched the couple in the distance. Hawkeem was nice and respectful, a trait that their journey hadn't changed. He was perfect for Gemma. The deep abyss in the pit of his stomach lessened, yet remained in place. Inwardly, he doubted that he'd ever escape that feeling of emptiness. Not as long as the woman he loved was in someone else's arms.

He turned away from the scene, his heart wrenching in pain. Slowly he wandered off to the edge of town, past the outskirts, and in the plains that surrounded the city. He felt as the barrier began to crumble and the animal slipped through and fought for dominance. In light of this, he only smiled. Two years following the defeat of King Jelorent at the hands of the Weaponians and a couple of teenagers, Damien Moreau let go of Gemma Revant.
