Pennsylvania Day 1--July 23rd
Today was absolute hell.

We left at 6am to drive to Pennsylvania to see Joe's grandpa. Joe and I packed up everything and took his Jeep while his mom took her Hundai.

4 hours later we arrived. Turns out his grandpa is at the point in his life where he REALLY needs to be in assisted living. He is in the first stages of dimentia and alzheimers. I see the stress that he (inadvertently) puts on Joe's mother, brother, and sister. It's like taking care of a special needs child. Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for him, but I think it's best if he's put into professional care. That way, his children won't have to visit him frequently to go grocery shopping with him and clean his extrememly messy/smelly house. There were even times where he'd yell out loud and say random things. It was actually scary and stressful. Neither Joe, his mom, nor I wanted to put up with it anymore. Poor guy. I hope his family does the right thing.

There was no ventallation in the bedroom we were staying in and the "collectibles" we piled to the ceiling and about less than a foot from the bed. The whole trailer was a pig sty and frankly I'm disappointed that his children don't get rid of all the junk. It's not safe for him; he already uses a cane and if something fell on him he'd be doomed.

After our meet and greet we went grocery shopping with him. It's so fun to lose and 80+ year old man at least 5 times in the store.... rolleyes

Next, and the only fun part of the day, came when we went to Kitchen Kettle in Intercourse, PA. Yes, you read that correctly. That is the name of the town. Anyway, Kitchen Kettle is this cute shopping plaza. These were some of the following shops: fudge, toys, kitchen goods, souveniers, and pottery. We only stayed for about 2 hrs though because it was so hot. Kitchen Kettle and the surrounding town were mostly Amish people, which was cool. A group of Amish girls actually sold us ice cream.

We returned to the trailer to cool off. Then Joe's mom took us out for dinner. Oh boy was it disgusting. Joe wanted to go to a buffet. gonk The food was terrible! I got so sick! redface I hate buffets. It's all cheap, inedible food that isn't worth even a penny.

That night we slept in the previously mentioned crowded bedroom. Joe's mom slept on the fold out couch. I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there....
