i wrote this over a year ago. kept forgetting to post it here. but it's here now

The Archer

“I love you.” It was my last chance.
“But I don’t love you…” he said.

Those words alone shattered my being.
My heart quickened.
My breathing rasped.
Floods of tears down my cheek.

He sighed.

I looked up.
Suddenly, in his left hand, a bow;
in the right, an arrow.
He joined them.

“Please don’t do this,” I begged.
“I have to.”

My ears rang louder than church bells.
He raised his arms.
My lungs pumped in panic.
He pulled back the string.
I closed my eyes.
“I will never love you.” He let go.

Arrow of deceit…dead in my heart.
My knees hit the floor.

I looked down,
and I watched as my very soul poured out
into my lap.

I watched
as he approached me,
and stole my Hopes from one hand,
and my Dreams from another.

Then I listened
as the ringing died out,
as my breath slowed to a stop,
as my heart beat…
one…
last…
time…

He walked away…

as I collapsed to the ground,
dying in the pool of destruction
and devastation
that he wreaked upon my life.
