My Poems
Where I will post poems I write
The Road Home
There’s a road
And a sign
One way only
Once you’re in the only way out
Is to go back the way you came
But you’re hurting so bad
You need an escape
Thinking that once you fix your life
Then He’ll take you back
You think that getting away
Will cover all your shame
So you travel down the road.

Every now and then you look back
Wondering if you should go down this road or not
But then you keep walking
Then you notice a man following you
But you keep going anyway
A little while later you look back again
He’s still following you
So you begin to run
You want to escape Him
Thinking He knows what you’ve done
And now He’s out to get you
Condemn you like everyone else has.

But you’re tired of running
You’ve been running so long
You need to sit down and breathe
You look back
Wondering how you got this far
Wondering if your King could still love you
After all you’ve done
Thinking maybe you could be His servant
Serving in His courts and having enough just to get by
There’s no way He would want you to be His child again
But you’re still to scared to go back
So you sit and cry.

You see the man again
But He doesn’t come closer
It appears as He’s just waiting…

You miss His presence
His voice, His love
You’re too broken to be healed
He’ll never take you back now.

The man walks up to you
I’ve been waiting and I’ve been watching you
You have a King who loves you
And misses you
He wants you back
As a child not a slave…

The road home is long and hard
Traveling through all the shame
That once brought you away from Him
The pain that carried you away from His voice of love
You know that every road you travel away from Him
You have to travel back to His arms of grace.

But suddenly the road isn’t as dark
There’s a peace and a presence
And it feels as though the silence is speaking
You’re not alone; I have never left your side
You left Me but I’m still here
And I’ll guide you back home.

Through all the tears and all the shame
I’ll wash you clean again
I let you walk the road
But I didn’t let you walk it alone
Now you have to travel back
But I will lead you through
Until you’re home again.

You discover the road back
Isn’t as long
Isn’t as hard
It almost seems as going through all of it again
Brings healing to you
Knowing that you’re returning to your King
Returning to your Daddy who wraps His arms around you
So you start running again
This time not away from Him but to Him.

As you get closer to His courts
You see that He’s running too
You’re running to Him He’s running to you
Finally His arms embrace you
And you start to whisper
“Oh Your majesty, King, Lord,
I’m so sorry, I have sinned against You,
Broken Your rules.”
But you notice that He’s not listening to your speech
But He’s wrapping His robe around you
Symbolizing your new life in Him
A ring symbolizing you still have His authority
And sandals to show that you’re not a servant
You are a child, He is a King
But He is your Daddy and He’s madly in love with you
And He wraps His arms around you, kisses you
And holds you as you cry
And He just says “I still love you
“I never stopped loving you
You’re still My child.”

Tears of joy roll down your face
Knowing that He loves you
Although you were mad at Him
Thinking it was Him who caused your pain
But you now realize that He wants to be your Daddy
And wash your pain away
And You see that He was broken over you
Waiting for the day you’d come back to Him.

The road home is long
But not as long as when you first left
This time there’s a joy
Knowing He’s been waiting for you…

Jesus loves you
He never stopped loving you
He’ll always love you.

He still loves you
He never stopped chasing after your heart
He will love you forever.

No matter where you are
What you’ve done
Where you’ve come from
Jesus loves you.
