one of the main reasons for this post stems from the fact that I have recently been gifted with a beautiful Japanese katana with a scarlet sheath and the word "CHINA" engraved on it xD they do that to whatever they import, so I try to ignore it.

anyway, what gives me the headscratcher here is that I can't swing the damn thing properly unless I use both of my hands while, as normal as it seems already, practically EVERYONE on television, be it live action or anime, can swing a sword around with one hand like its a natural life occurence. it makes no sense. hell, because of its weight, it's freakin impossible to swing and parry that fast, be it one or even with BOTH hands on the handle.

I tried, and I cant manage that kind of speed, even with both hands.

and I'm using this to refer to any time period depicted in film; not just times when weilding swords actually made sense; I'm talking about times like then to modern days where katanas are mostly used by people in trench coats and sunglasses, or whatever crappy costume design is implemented along with it. weilding katanas isnt such a simple matter...
