So this weekend I'll be off on my first boat excursion in a while. My dad was just got a Coast Guard equivalent certification of being a boat captain, so when the paperwork comes through he can drive barges up to 60 tons and take people charter fishing. But this weekend trip is going to be a little more simple. My parents and I, as well as one of my best friends, are setting off to a nearby island, to raft up with other boats and generally just be local tourists. We borrowed a couple of kayaks and I have my safe boating license so I can drive powerboats if it's just with family and friends. Our boat will be rafted up with ten other boats. By rafted up, I mean that the cleats that tie them to the dock will connect each boat, and we'll all have at least an anchor out. This is cheaper (and sometimes safer) than being at a marina, if done right. (Safer because you only raft with people you know, so stuff won't get stolen if you leave your cabin unlocked and cheaper because you don't have to rent a slip for the boat. But if it isn't done right, then things can break.)
I'm very excited for this trip. It's the first vacation I've taken since I went to Cape Cod. It'll only be for three-four days as opposed to a week, but I haven't been to this island in years. The last time I went, it was with my brother as opposed to my best friend, we were at a marina, and I was a lot younger.
Last time all I could do was hang out by myself in the teeny arcade or go to the pool. I couldn't go into town, I didn't have any friends my age, and we weren't tied up with anyone I knew. Also, some kid tried to call me mental but ended up saying "mento" I think. Yeah, kid, I'm so extremely "mento." But I was hurt because I didn't even know he meant "mental" until my brother told me. Of course I knew that the kid meant it as an insult, so it doesn't matter what word he used.
Huh. It's weird, how many people have called and still call me crazy. Yeah, I'm wacky and maybe a little mentally weird, but isn't everyone? So I like to build things, dance when I walk, break out into song, and I have non-suicidal voices chatting with me in my head. I'm not a threat to myself or others, unless I'm trying to defend someone. What stuff do you have in your head? Do your voices actually tell you to do dangerous things?
But everything in this life is part of a lesson. Everyone gets their just desserts, whether you see it or not.
So where was I? Yes, this vacation. There will be no annoying older brother, no bratty kids, but all of the good stuff. Kayaks, friendship, independence (YESS!!!!), shopping, art galleries, and fireworks. Not to mention the beach!
And since my dad is captain of our boat, that makes me the first mate. Woo hoo!
Other part of the title: I haven't written anything novel-related in a long time. I'm out of practice writing. So I've joined a couple of RP's. I haven't RPed in a few years, mostly because I felt guilty about deserting my characters or using pictures of someone else's characters. Also, some RP's just make me roll my eyes because of the ' "let's get married!" at first sight's (as opposed to the more commonly known love at first sight), ripping off other characters, fanfics of other series, impossibly strong characters, Mary-Sue syndrome, and just overall bad character development.
But I knew that I needed to practice some sort of writing, and it's summer time, so it's not like I have homework, right?
Wait. I do have homework. Gah, stupid AP courses.
Well, that's a wrap for today. I might/might not write of my adventures on the island like I did with Cape Cod. This is Horse lady, saying "Arrrgh!" while trying not to get scurvy (also known as needing to eat more green vegetables), and signing out!
