I see me in my coffin
Dressed in my finest clothes
My hands settled over my heart
A gold coin in my mouth
I am waiting for the boat
To take me over the river
To take me to the gates
A gold coin for payment
There is crying all around me
I didn’t know they loved me
It’s lucky I can’t talk
Because I wouldn’t know what to say
The boat is here now
I give him my coin
We are all piling in
I look out to the water
And there is my son
Only 4 years old
Never dealt with death before
Only an old dog he hadn’t really known
I step out onto shore
Two line ups stretched a mile long
A guard stands before me
A dog with three heads
So many people are here
Who knew I touched so many lives
Who knew so many people loved me
Who knew I had been so good?
Two lines to choose from
Which field do I belong in?
Elysian, Asphodel or Tartarus?
How good have I been?
And now it’s almost over
And I watch as they all leave one by one
One last glance at my now pale face
And their life goes on
I go in the line straight for asphodel
And I watch it slowly moving
I get through the doors
And out to the packed field
This poem is about the greek myth about the underworld. The man that died is in a kind of limbo so he is watching his funeral while he is taking the trip down to the underworld
