Glitched
Chapter 3
“You still have to do my chores.” Amani was leaning against the counter, watching Nalin do the dishes with a smirk on her face.
Nalin turned around sharply. “Why!? Mom and dad found out!”
“But I didn’t tell them.” Her smirk grew. “The deal was if I didn’t tell you would do my chores for three weeks.”
“That’s not fair!” He pouted.
Amani shrugged off of the counter and made her way to the stairs. “Life isn’t fair.”
She almost giggled at the memory of Nalin getting caught. Once their mom and dad saw that Nalin had brought another wild animal into the house, they grounded Nalin for a month. They took to fox away from Nalin saying that they were going to bring it to the zoo in the morning. Then he had to do the dishes.
She lay down in her bed and wrapped the covers around her. Her sly smirk turned into a frown. One thing still confused her though. How did her fish disappear? She rubbed her temple and tried to get some sleep.
-
Amani sat up, gasping for air. Another weird dream. And a gory one at that. It was a dream where she was a little girl calling for her big brother. Justis? No. That wasn’t the name. It had escaped her mind. But all she could remember was blood splattering everywhere and tears clouding her vision. She grimaced and went over to her small bathroom on the left hand side over her bed. She quickly freshened up in ten minutes and went downstairs to eat some breakfast.
Justis was already at the table reading a book. Always reading.
“Good morning!” Amani went over to the cabinet and grabbed a box of Lucky Charms.
“Morning.” He said without looking up from his book. Amani sat across from him and poured milk into her cereal. Should I tell him about my dream? Amani thought and ate a rainbow. She decided against it. She was never a talkative person. She always kept things bottled up. She finished her cereal and went back upstairs to get her backpack. When she came back downstairs, Justis had gotten up and was staring at her.
“What?” She was getting annoyed by his blank stare.
“Mom and dad left to go bring the fox to the zoo.” He said with a bored look on his face.
“Thanks for telling me that.” Is it me or has Justis been acting a bit distant lately? Amani thought and headed back towards the front door. “See ya!” He only grunted in reply.
Amani looked at her watch. Already 7:50!? Couldn’t have Justis woke her up earlier!? She had to run to school today.
-
Amani couldn’t believe it. She was late. She had never been late before in her life. And she was too scared to go to the office and check in late. So she decided to sit outside of the classroom and wait for an ingenious plan to pop into her head. It didn’t.
First class is world history. She was the only freshman in the class. The rest were sophomores. Zale was in this class. He sat right behind her. She could hardly focus in class because he always playing with her hair. And when she put her hair in front of her, he trailed his fingers on her neck. What a pervert! Maybe it was a good thing that she was late. But this would destroy her perfect record! She had to get in somehow and still be considered on time for class.
She looked through the window of the door and noticed Zale smirking. What’s he smirking at!? Amani gritted her teeth. Does he think I was afraid of him yesterday!? Without thinking, Amani burst through the door causing all the heads turn towards her. The teacher, Mr. Lenguana looked up from the writing notes on the board.
“Miss Ayres.” She ignored him and walked over to Zale. She glared at him before knocking his head to the left. Her fist remained in mid-air and everyone gasped. “Miss Ayres!” Amani brought her hand down and turned towards the Mr. Lenguana. “Principal’s office. Now!” She gritted her teeth and glared.
“I don’t think so.” She said with a strong voice. Her teacher’s eyes widened in shock.
“Miss Ayres, you get out of my classroom and into the Principal’s office or so help me-”
She shut her eyes in frustration. I hope this works. I wish everyone one had forgotten that I just punched Zale and that everyone thought I was on time for school! She thought desperately. When she opened her eyes, everyone still had their eyes on her. Maybe I did get my hopes a little too high. She thought and frowned.
“Miss Ayres, why are you out of your desk?” Mr. Lenguana asked, frowning. Amani immediately looked at all of her classmates. They were all snickering except for Zale. He had one nasty glare on his face. She sat down and thought about what had just happened. She decided to do one more test. I wish I could listen to their thoughts for one minute!
Amani stared at the head in front of her. Why did that freshman get up in the middle of class? She interrupted Mr. Lenguana’s notes! I need them for the test! He was obviously a know-it-all.
Amani turned towards the guy sitting next to her. That freshman chick has some serious issues. But she does have a nice body.
He ran his eyes down her frame. Amani turned away from him and looked into her bag while glancing at Zale. Is it already starting? Why? How? I must report this to-she’s staring at me. Why is she staring at me? Damn! I feel something probing in my head!
She was shoved out of his mind. A minute had passed. Zale’s glare increased tenfold. She turned around and didn’t pay any attention to the notes on the board. She had already read the textbook anyway. A question remained in her head for the rest of the class.
What was she?
