Part two of "The Old House on the Hill"
As I finished getting ready, my mother walked inside our room.
"Are you two ready to get going for the day?" asked my mother in her playful tone.
"Ya, were pretty much ready." I said as I looked up at her.
"All right, then let's go." she said as she started to shoo us towards the car. We closed our room door, opened the car doors and hopped inside the backseat. The entire day we walked through Yellowstone, so when we got back to the Motel, both me and Samantha were exhausted. As I walked into the Motel room both me and Samantha collapsed on our soft, bouncy beds. As I was laying there I felt someone poking me in the ribs. I opened my eyes and saw my little brothers, big innocent, brown eyes. "Stop doing that." I said in a tired and weak voice.
“Then tell me a story.” demanded my little brother as he hopped onto my bed.
“I’m too tired.” I groaned. I could see his mouth turn into a large grin and felt him jabb his fingers into my side. I yelped as the pain ran through my body. I looked at him and I could see that he knew it was time to run. I jumped up off the bed and almost slugged him, but he was to fast for me and so I just through myself back onto the bed. 'I wish that he would just disappear.' I thought to myself. Samantha stood up and walked over to my bed and laid herself down beside me.
"Man am I tired" she said as she rested her head on one of my pillows.
“Yep,” I said as I laid my head on one of the pillows. I laid there in peace for a few minutes and soon felt another blow in my side. I quickly opened my eyes as I yelped and saw him with a grumpy face.
“Tell me a story.” he demanded again. I sat up and rested my back on the headboard. “Fine I’ll tell you a story.” I said as I rubbed my eyes. “So what story do you want me tell you?”
“I want you to tell me a new one.” he demanded again. “That would be nice to hear a new story Kaila.” said Samantha as she kept her eyes closed.
“Fine, give me a few minutes to think of one.” I said as I looked around the room. My attention soon fell onto the window and I quickly remembered about that morning. I kept my gaze on the window and was interrupted by my little brother.
“What are you staring at?” he asked in his irritating voice.
“Oh, I was just looking outside the window.” I said in a calm and quite voice, which meant that I was going to tell a story. “Little brother, go outside and look at the top of the hill and then come back in here.” I instructed to him.
He quickly hopped off the bed and opened the door. “What is that?” yelled out my little brother as he was standing outside. Soon he came running back inside and slammed the door shut.
“What was that Sis?” he asked again when I didn’t answer him. I finally turned my attention to him and away from the window.
“It’s a house.” I said in my soft voice
“What type of a house?” he asked as he looked at me with sparkling eyes.
“That house is a magic house.” I answered, still in a soft voice.
“What happened there?” he asked in an excited voice. “Once there was a very rich man and he decided to build a house close to one of his favorite places in the world. As he was at the construction sight, he decided to go up onto the roof. And as he looked down at all the worthless workers, he gave a large and loud chuckle. As soon as he let out the last breath of his chuckle, he felt a pair of hands on his back and words were whispered into his ear.”
“What were the words?” shouted out my little brother as he was bouncing up and down on the bed.
“The words were this, ‘Say your last words, for you have found yourself on the top of the world, and now the only way to go now is down.’ And then the rich man felt the hands pushing on his back and soon came plummeting down onto the dirt floor.”
“What happened to him?” asked Samantha as her eyes were wide open.
“He died on the dirt floor and do you know what they say?” I asked with a bit of enthusiasm.
“What do they say?” asked my little brother.
“They say that the ghost of the rich man roams around the house every night and cries, because his house will never be finished.”
“Wow!” said my little brother as his mouth hung open. “So who did the hands and the voice belong too?” asked Samantha.
“Nobody knows.” I answered. “No human was on the roof of that house, only him.”
“I bet I can set the ghost free and then claim the house as my own.” said my little brother as he jumped onto his feet and unsheathed his home made iron dagger. “Bloody Hell!” I cried out as I saw the dagger in his hand. “You actually carry that thing at night?”
“Well of course I do. Don’t worry, I’m careful. The only reason why I keep it with me is just in case I encounter a ghost or a hobgoblin.” said my little brother as he quickly slid it back into its sheath. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.
“Who is it?” I asked as my heart started to beat faster. “It’s your mother and I’m here to take Julias to bed.” she called out.
I quickly stood up and walked to the door. I opened it up and made sure that I grabbed my little brother’s arm as he tried to make a run for it.
“Here you go mom.” I said as I handed his arm to her. “Thanks.” she said as she clasped onto his arm and dragged him into the other room. His great last words were ‘I will never surrender’ I slammed the door shut and quickly laid myself down on the bed. Samantha was snoring away beside me and I quickly felt the need for my other pillow. I grabbed the side of the pillow from under her head and pulled it out.
"Hey!" she cried out as her head hit the mattress. "Give that back."
"No, this is mine. Go and get one of your own." I said as I pointed towards her bed. She grunted as she stood up and laid herself down on her own bed. I fell asleep on the spot and awoke to the sound of a scream.
