A few minutes ago I got back from walking my neighbor's dog home. I was really surprised to see him 'cause he lives a few roads down and up the hill from me. I don't see him unless I'm going up that way to get to the trails. (I guess that's why I felt the need to see him where I usually do?) So we're sitting on my porch and I'm feeding him doggy cookies when my mom leaves to take our own dog on a walk. For some reason, I decide that I should walk this dog back to his house. So I put on some shoes and a sweater and we leave. It's about 9:30pm, the rain was coming down moderately, and it was dark except for the occasional street light. We're headed down the street and he knows exactly where we're going 'cause he's ahead of me the whole time, taking all the right turns. One house we passed smelled like s'mores, it was great. Going up the hill, I run to catch up to him so I can give him one more cookie before he gets to his house. I leave him at his house and turn to go back down the hill. I stop momentarily and look around, because at that moment, staring at the lights, houses, and sky, everything just seemed to be so much more... epic. I can't put words to how I felt. I start jogging down the hill. The breeze was cool but not cold and the rain felt nice against my face. I pushed my hood back and let it hit my hair. I ran all the way home, feeling some kind of contentment and freedom nothing else has given me. I stop when I see my mom on the porch. She asks me what I was doing and I run over and tell her I was walking Cisco home. Best walk of my life.
I really felt I had to post that, whether someone sees it or not, it was enlightening.
