Without amendments, the constitution wouldn’t be like it is today. The amendments are what give the people of America most of their rights. First of all, what exactly are amendments?
Amendments are changes made to the constitution, and without them, as said above; Americans wouldn’t have the rights that they do today. The founding fathers insisted there be amendments in the Constitution, for this reason. Some of the most basic rights we have today, such as freedom of speech, wouldn't be granted by any means to the average American if there wasn't a first amenedment. You wouldn't have the right to a lawyer. You would have to take a second trial, even if you were already tried and found not guilty.
We have amendments because there are more rights then listed in the constitution itself. It is important these rights are listed, because they are necessary for the constitution to work like it does today.
Amendments are added to the constitution by various methods, such as states in America voting. Some can be voted in by congress, and so on and so forth. It is not an easy process to get an amendement into the constitution. The last amendement was added to the constitution in 1846. That particular amendment was the t9h amendement, stating that any rights that were not listed in the previous amedments or in the constitution were acsessible to the states.
