No! Don't shoot!!
The story of Nervosa.
~by Nawochi
There once was a girl named Nervosa, who went completely out of her mind. Alone in her room she laughed and laughed, for she knew everything and nothing. The more of her mind she lost, the more enlightened she felt she was becoming. All of the forbidden knowledge in the world, however, did not change the fact that Nervosa was lonely. So Nervosa made some new friends; a dead boy and a dead girl, friends until dinner. Soon, she realized her new enlightenment offered her something else. She could now hear the voices of her fork and knife calling to her in their own sad metallic tones.
"Why are you so sad?" She asked, and they told her. They whispered to her and promised to sing if only she gave them what they wanted. What they wanted was blood, and she heard the blood and organs of her new friends calling as well, longing to be liberated from their prison of flesh and bone.
Nervosa obeyed, but her metal friends did not sing for her. "Why won't you sing? You promised!" She demanded.
"There was not enough to feed us!" They replied, "We need more!" they called. Nervosa thought about this predicament, but on an empty stomach it was no use. As lonely as Nervosa felt, she felt hungrier still, and she knew that she could make her metal friends happy if only she could think. Without remorse, her friends disappeared, and she knew she could not rely on a dead boy and a dead girl to make her new friends happy. She found a living friend, this time, and welcomed him into her room with promises of sweets. She wanted to wait until the perfect time, but her fork was impatient, and her knife even more impatient. Her knife was the first to strike, and in place of the boy's screams, Nervosa heard her knife's song for the first time. She was eager to hear the fork's voice too, but as the boy's screaming stopped, so did the kife's song, and neither would sing now that the boy was dead. Nervosa wanted to hear their songs again, so she found a rat for them. Their song was not nearly as beautiful as it had been for the boy, but the more Nervosa heard their songs the more her ears ached to hear them sing again.
After the body count began to rise, someone knocked on her door. She let the man in, only to find that he was a police officer. Stunned at the blood covering the walls, floor, and even the ceiling, he stared at Nervosa, with her shining metal companions. The police officer took Nervosa to a sanatorium, where they promised to take good care of her as they took away her knife.
"What cruelty is this?" Nervosa wondered how they planned to take care of her by taking one of her friends! With nothing but her fork, she sat in her crisp hospital gown in her new room for days on end, blinded by the whiteness, and driven half mad by the silence. She longed to hear the songs again. There was only one thing she could do to hear, at least the fork's song, once more....It wasn't until afterward that Nervosa realized... her fork couldn't sing.
There once was a girl named Nervosa, who slowly went out of her mind. Now she laughs in a sanatorium with a fork stuck in her eye.
