Luminitsa
Listening: [x]

User Image Luminitsa, meaning 'little light' in Romani, a female gypsy revolutionist who started the first gypsy revolution in the late 1700s.

The gypsy race was being looked down and hated by the Europeans and considered 'strange outcast'. The gypsies were being mistreated, labeled with names such as thieves, witches, baby-snatchers, sorcerers, etc. just because they were different. Therefore, their lives were full of despair and heart-piercing grief.

The only occupations they could have were various low-pay, low-level social positions; such as blacksmiths, magicians, musicians, and dancers. Some even had the ill fortune to work as slaves. Luminitsa inspired other gypsies from later generations to continue her work to fight for the justice that they should deserved.
