You Know Me
By Me (don'tcha know it?)
I watch as the monarch
Flutters her wings
It reminds me now
Of those wonderful things
Which we said to each other
Just the other night
Now I watch as the butterfly
Starts on her flight
Every flap of her wings
Is a story untold
As she continues her journey
The tale will unfold
How free and careless
She seems to be
Which brings me back
To you and me
"Perfect" you said
How can that be true?
Yet I find myself thinking
The same about you
My mind's in a whirl
I'm so intensely warm
Who knew all the feelings
Would come in a swarm?
My thoughts, they run rampant
While I'm talking to you
Yet there are times
When I don't know what to do
Those moments of silence
My heart's in my throat
I need time to reflect
On the things that you wrote
That uncomfortable feeling
I've come to know well
And I've found that I like it
As if you can't tell
To bridge the gap
Between your heart and mine
Is to swing between trees
On a precarious vine
Dangerous?
Perhaps.
A risk?
Time will tell.
Worth it?
Of course!
You know me too well.
