CHAPTER 1
The room was silent except for the ticking of the clock. I watched as an ant climbed up my pencil, only to be deceived yet again by another dead end. Outside, the sun was shining pleasantly on the schools grounds which were absorbing this heat thankfully. It was nearly three o'clock and the class had been set to silent read until school finished. My book was wide open in-front of me, but i wasn't interested in it. I wanted school to be over. I was tired and couldn't wait to get home and plan the weekend as it was Friday. Then suddenly I remembered that a new boy would be coming into or class on Monday. I slapped my forehead which turned a few heads. I just shrugged when Sammy and Anne exchanged suspicious expressions. Sammy even mothed, There goes Milly again. A quick glance at the clock told me that I only had to endure this state of being bored for approximately another three minutes. Dam. I spied around the room. Frank, who was 11 and a little thick, had a pen sticking out of his ear. Typical. Betty and Melanie, two ten year olds, were playing with some kind of green putty. What could I expect? Out the window, I could see tiny dots of sheep migrating into another paddock. I loved being in a small country school, my home only a few minutes away. I couldn't wait to go back to our small farm and collapse on my bed. I was looking forward to the holidays which would appear a little more than a week from now. Only a short holiday, of two weeks, before the last term I would ever spend at this primary school would be before me. I was twelve, and in just a few months, I would be starting high school. At least Michael, who was the most mature boy in our class not to mention the sportiest, and Sammy, who was one of my best friends would be coming with me. Poor Anne. She was going to a different high-school to us. She was also one of my best friends. The door opened and our stern teacher walked in. She glared at us all suspiciously. No one dared to meet those menacing eyes. For once we hadn't done anything wrong that I knew of. " One of you boys in here, has one again, attempted to cut through the rope on the juniors swings."She said rather stiffly. All the boys just put on innocent faces and acted as though they had been offended. Well, most of them any way. " Unfortunately, they have also succeeded."Her expression was stoney and her lip's were so pursed together that I don't think even a peer of pliers could separate them from each other. We all looked around but no one owned up to this crime. Suddenly the bell rang. Nobody moved. Miss Philip looked as if she were about to explode. " You are dismissed," cried Miss Philip and without further ado, exited through the door. The room broke out in talk, but no one was owning up to anything. I didn't believe that any boys in our class were dumb enough to do something so stupid. They were all so silly and immature. Michael was the only exception i had found to this so far. I found myself hoping that this new boy would be cute and boyfriend material. None of the boys I had met so far were really anything but boys. Gosh. I sighed in relief. The day was over and now I had two days of weekend to look forward to. I hurried into the cloak-bay. Sammy and Anne were engaged in conversation. Anne sure could be a gossip sometimes. Sammy beckoned me over. "You know the new boy? He's gunna be a year six. But he's just turned 11. I hope he's not as stupid as the rest of the boys here," Sammy said. She was tall and blond. The opposite of me. I was short and ginger. " I hope he's good looking,"said Anne excitedly. Sammy rolled her eyes. "Same!" I said. We giggled. "See ya on Monday!" Sammy jumped out of the room. "Yeah, bye!"Anne left. I was now alone. I had been waiting all week for the weekend but now I just wanted Monday to hurry up and be here. Next week wouldn't be an average one, thats for sure but bring it on, I thought to myself. Bring it on.
