You Should Fear Your Neighbor, Not Your Mirror [Poem]

She’s so beautiful, she’s tragic

Sighing at a broken mirror

The view makes her crumble

A lonesome swan picked clean of her feathers

Adrift in her own tears

To her dismay irony delivers

The boys love it when she cries

So today she’ll poke, she’ll prod, and muster

Until her body looks just right

Her hope embodied in her hair, her make-up

It’s never in short supply

A product she is, she’s what they’ve made her

Satisfaction guaranteed

She’s so beautiful, she’s tragic

Sighing about a day gone past her

The neglect lingering in her arid smile

A doll, posing for the squeals of her tormentors

Her posture dwindled, her life curtailed

Shocked in the cycle

And to her, it doesn’t matter how it’s done

As long as it affords affection

What she doesn’t know is that reality scars

Leaving all these little imperfections

And in this way, the pretty ones die young

Their hopes weighed equal to their burdens

The swan will crash below the surface

Drowned in this illusion
