Exerpts for the Future
Well, my name is Peter. I really like to write, so be prepared to do a lot of reading! I really enjoy Shakespeare and contemporary fantasy. I plan to write every day, and each entry will be an exerpt from books I have not yet written. Be surprised, b
Music like water flowing through a valley, soft, sweet, yet with an irrevocable sound that seemed almost permanent in Nat's ears. After the cold of the tunnels, he found this capacious room's warmth to be like the comfort of wrapping oneself in a cotton blanket after walking in the rain.
So many faces. There were only two humans in the room, not including Nat: a man, both noble in stature and strong in form, and a girl, fragile in appearance, yet in her hands she wielded a staff made from a winding green metal. The man, from where Nat stood, seemed to be a little older than himself, while the girl's dainty form made Nat consider her to be a year or two younger than him.
Not including the minuscule number of humans, the cave hall was filled with only three species of creatures, though their numbers were nonetheless impressive. The werecats, to whom Larissa, Nat's guide, belonged, milled about amongst crowds of humanoid vampires and a motley assortment of werewolves. Even when changed into their human forms, Nat could tell what these creatures were. He could smell it on them.
Larissa, who had leaped into the fray of dancing bodies, returned, towing in a vampire with her right arm, and a werewolf with her left. Nat, at the sight of Larissa, grinned involuntarily, but immediately regained his composure. As Larissa moved toward Nat, she slowly began to change. She shrunk down to half a foot below Nat, and her pallid fur receded to reveal soft, tan skin. Her ears rearranged themselves entirely, while only two things remained the same: her hair, and her eyes. The hair on her hair had retained the same ghostly pale color, while her eyes were still the same, ever-changing, enigmatic orbs.
Nat was actually rather surprised by how much he like Larissa's human form. As he began to contemplate this, he was pulled from his thoughts by a single, bantering voice.
"Hey, strange that a race famed for their inability to use their heads should take their time to think so seriously!" Nat could feel a snappy retort on the tip of his tongue, but Larissa was continuing before he could utter a word, "Don't strain yourself, Short Bus. Anyway, I just wanted you to meet my friends. This is Cam," Larissa began introducing the mature-looking female vampire that still stood silent by Larissa's right arm."She's the head of the vampire sub-clan representatives, and the hardest partier I know!" Larissa ended with a chuckle, and Nat only raised his eyebrows questioningly.
"And you've already met Walter-" Larissa cut herself off as she turned around to find the werewolf gone, disappeared. With a shrug, Larissa and Cam headed back into the throng of dancing creatures.
Nat, looking back at the people dancing, and with the music's pulse beating in his ears, never felt so alone, so isolated, in all of his life.
"Makes you feel a little less human, doesn't it?" a voice so sweet, Nat felt himself clinging to it, wafted over to him.
He turned around, and saw Her.
