Kara Vangeline's creative mind...
The Beginning. (ZanexO.C. Unfinished)
Now, before I begin I would like to explain that I took some one elses fanfiction and started with that, swithing things around a bit. I thought the storyline was excellent, and so I 'borrowed' it from her. She is on Quizilla, and her story is called 'Life Sucks, That's Why I'm Changing Things Up (Zane Truesdale)' Here is a link, so read it sometime!

The Beginning…

My name is Kara. Kara Vangeline. For my whole life I’ve never known my parents. All I knew was that I got my mother's eyes, and her features. I was gifted with my father's hair. My mother and father were both Japanese, but they traveled alot with the World Help Organization. When I was born, they had taken me with them to Africa, before I could even speak. They would leave me in the hands of the African women when they went on their trips to towns that were in need of aid. On one certain trip though, they never returned.
The people who had been watching me decided that after a month my parents were never going to come back. So they put me in the newly founded orphanage. I do have family, but for lack of better judgement, they weren't… fit to have a child in their life. The woman who had taken care of me had tried to contact my fathers sister, but when she had, she deducted that she wasn’t well enough on her feet to take care of me. So I was placed in an orphanage in Africa. I’ve lived there since I was six, and I will never forget the day I was adopted. Never.
Most orphans would be ecstatic to leave and go to a new home, well I wasn't. The day I was adopted was the day that I was welcomed into Satan’s domain. Yes, you heard me right: the firey pits of the place beneath the earths crust. On that day, she came. It was a cold day, rain poured heavily from the putty colored sky, the lively green vines framing the entrance to the orphanage being thrashed about by the rains less than gentle fall. I was in front of the fire staring into the flickering embers of blue-green coals, not really thinking about anything but the odd beauty the flames held.
She went from child to child, speaking with them, making jokes here and there, being the social butterfly she was. I remembered how annoying she acted. She followed me until I became angry at her persistence and slammed my bed room door in her face. She still continued to shadow me. I ran as fast as I could to get away from her after that, and she got her shirt hem stuck on the door frame. It pulled her head back and she fell on her butt. That was the last time I'd ever laughed.
The next day she came back. “I want this one.” Was all she said, pointing her thumb in my direction, acting as if I were some kind of pet. Her Father looked at her in astonishment. “Are you sure? She's a little… thin.” He quizzed, distaste surrounding the statement. “Daddy....” She whined shaking his cuff and dragging out the ‘y’ at the end.
“All right. Miss, I'll take this one.” Her father informed the attendant looking at me with confusion and patting his daughter on the head. The man pointed to me, sealing my fate with those sausage sized fingers. And for all my life I regretted not running out of that building into the desserets of the savannah.
Since then I've been forced to be the snobs personal maid. Kumiko Nazinama is the snob I am refering to. Her family is one of the richest in Japan and she is the only daughter. Which means she is spoiled and extremely self-centered. I'm forced to listen to her complaints and cater to her every whim. If not, I'll be punished. There are times when I wish that I was just sent to the underworld. Compared to being stuck with Kumiko, that place sounded like a warm and sunny tropical island.

A Few Years Later…

“Hey Maid! Go pack my clothes!” She never says my name…I thought quietly to myself. I hardly ever spoke my thoughts aloud. I pulled out Kumiko's over-sized pink suitcases and began packing all her things for Duel Academy. Kumiko was never great at dueling. She would always force me to duel with her though, and of course I had to fail, allowing her to believe she was the best.
Yes, I can duel, I'm actually not that stupid. And I know much more about the card game than Kumiko. Not that she really cares all that much about it. All her tutors refused to instruct her and she handed me to them instead. I didn't particularly mind, her tutors were quite sweet and would occasionallly reward me for doing an excellent job. The game soon became entertaining to me, and I quietly became absorbed in the creativeness of it all.
“And don’t forget to pack my skirts and dresses!” Kumiko’s voice cut into my thoughts, causing me to jump. I sighed and said in a voice just loud enough to hear “Yes Miss Kumiko.” I grudgingly went about my task, thinking about the two personalities I held. Not a split personality, but rather one in which I thought of being more confident. The one I stuck with was the shy, hardly talking and maybe non-existent side.
Around Kumiko, and everyone she knows, I'm obident, quiet, and shy. I'm naturally quiet, but avdenturous. I’m a bit clumsy, but I am curious, I enjoy learning new things. I've kept my true side on the down low so I wouldn't get in trouble. But there have been times when my emotions have come bubbling to the surface and gotten the better of me.
Half an hour later I finished packing all of Kumiko's belongings for Duel Academy. I dazedly zipped the thick cases closed and thought hard on a certain subject I was determined to discover. That subject was what confused me so. How had Kumiko come to be placed in Obelisk Blue? Her dueling abilities were limited, and frankly she had never taken her grades into heart. Oh well, I suppose I will never really understand anything that girl does…in this case becomes…

Later in front of the mansion…

Around noon I had gathered all of my belongings in a large purple suitcase. Kumiko had ordered me to place both our belongings in her limo and we were now in the elongated automobile traveling to the airport. I wasn't too happy about being Kumiko's personal slave for the whole year, and this year would be worse than usual. She would have her friends to make my life even more chaotic.

On the Plane…

The flight went smoothly, but Kumiko had me switch seats with her so that she didn’t have to listen to the old woman next to her ‘run her jaws.’ I found the womans stories entertaining, and quietly chatted with her about her life. She told me that she had grown up taking care of her siblings, and that her father was always busy with his work, so raising her brothers was a challenge. She had to get a job at the age of nine, and she hardly earned that much. It secretly made me feel that I wasn’t the only one with a difficult life, and that others were even more unfortunate than I.

On Academy grounds…

Around three in the afternoon we were at Duel Academy. I was carrying both mine and Kumiko's luggage, and the bags were none too light. As we walked to the entrance, a man with blonde hair came bounding down the road. “Ah Miss Nazinama. It's a pleasure to be seeing you again.” The man reminded me of an overexuberant leech. Sucking out the fun and being much too formal. “Like wise.” Kumiko said after a distasteful smile.
Kumiko Nazinama, I must admit, is stunningly beautiful. Young men have gone to extreme lengths to get a date with her, I on the other hand, have convinced myself that I am beauitful. But it's all lies. I've let my silvery locks grow long, which makes it difficult to brush. Fortunately, my weight has always been a low number. I do take care of myself but I'm not terribly beautiful, if I was, someone would have told me.
“Do you need any help with your belongings?” The Blonde man asked reavealing a toothy smile. Finally, someone who offers some help…I thought. I looked his way graciously, but before I could speak up, Kumiko pointed to me. “No, she's got it covered.” In my mind I was screaming. It was frustrating when you could barely carry something, and then you were denied the help. Nevertheless, I stayed silent and carried the luggage.

In Kumiko’s dorm…

Kumiko's room was enormous, perhaps bigger than it should be. I took a guess and decided she would probably make room for me in her closet or something close to those lines. I dropped all of Kumiko's stuff, heaving at the workout I had just received. We had to ascend a very large staircase to reach her room. Kumiko waltzed into the bathroom to check her make-up while I collapsed to have my heart attack in peace.
“Change into your uniform Kara! We have to go to the Welcoming Party, and get my uniform ready while I'm in the shower.” Having my heart attack in peace was shattered as Kumiko demanded yet another task of. “Of course.” I said curtly.
I laid Kumiko's things out first. Then I pulled my stuff out of my personal suitcase. I went outside on the balcony, shutting the door behind me. I took out the old ipod that Kumiko had thrown out. The first song that came up was Broken sung by Seether & Amy Lee. And I began to sing.

Zane's POV…

I was walking past the Obelisk Blue dorms coming back from the Lighthouse. I was almost to my room, contemplating my latest situation. I heard someone singing, the sweet voice trailed in the air and bounced around the courtyard. I looked up to the nearst balcony, and there was the culprit. A girl, listening to her music and lightly singing her heart out. It wasn't bad either, I couldn’t hear the music, but she was frightfully good with her accapella. I stepped to the side, the branches that had blocked her face left my vision. Her silvery hair hung over her shoulder cascading over her back and down to the hem of her shirt. Her creamy skin glowed in the dim colors of the sky, and her long-lashed lavender eyes were enchanting, shining with an inner light all their own.

Kara’s POV…

I went inside and changed into the Obelisk blue uniform. And let's just say that I was none too pleased with the length of it. I stared in the full length mirror on the closet door, tugging and wrestling with the blue fabric to lengthen itself. I couldn’t get the blush off of my face, and it grew darker everytime I thought of how short the material was. I gave up soon after, sighing inwardly.
Kumiko came out in a towel taking her uniform and make-up with her into the bathroom, not bothering to speak with me. From my suitcase I took a blue sweater made of thin material. I contemplated wrapping the sweater around my waist to keep my backside appropriate. “Maid, unpack my things, and when you're done go for a walk or something. I'm going to hang out with my friends. Just stay away from me.” Kumiko ordered from the bathroom.
Without speaking I started unpacking all her things and putting them on the hangers in the closets. I finished in thirty minutes’ time, a new record. I took one of the spare keys, and left the dorm room. As I walked down the halls I felt a sudden chill run up my spine and zipped up my sweater.
Starting my music once again, one of my favorite songs began buzzing through the earphones. It was by Evanescence their new song to be precise. Call Me When You're Sober. I whispered to the music
“KARA! COME HERE!” Just as the song ended Kumiko screeched for me. When I turned around, I beheld an attrocious sight. Maybe a dozen of them, all rich like Kumiko most likely, stood in a huge crowd. They surrounded me, and imediatelyI regretted pretending not to hear her.

Alexis' POV...

I was walking around Duel Academy with my friend Zane when I heard people laughing. I turned around to see if Zane had heard the laughture. He was already looking that way. “What do you think is so funny?” I asked, looking toward the voices again “I don't think it's just regular funny. It sounds like it's someone in pain.” He replied cooly. “Let's see what's up.” I suggested. At this Zane nodded his head and motioned for me to follow him to the group of girls and guys all in a circle.

Kara’s POV…

They all began to attack me. Kicking me, slapping me, pulling my hair, any kind of abuse that seemed funny and entertaining to them. Kumiko moved in front of them and pushed me hard in the chest. The circle opened up allowing me to fall to the ground. I landed hard on my backside. Then the beating began all over again.
A voice cut through the air, a girls voice. “What do you think you are doing?!?” It demanded. I thought a million thank you’s to my savior. “Stop this immediately!”
“Why should I?!? And who are you to stop this fun?” Kumiko shot back smiling smugly and giving me a shove. I could see the girl defending me pushing her way through the crowd. She was tall, with long sandy blonde hair and amber eyes. “You call this fun?! Fun isn't torturing some innocent girl!” She hissed.
A young man stepped next to the sandy-haired girl after her statement. The boy was tall as well, with teal hair and icy dark blue eyes, his outfit complimenting his strong features and personality. He was well toned, and the tight shirt he wore did nothing to hide his muscular physique. He said nothing, but his eyes spoke for him.
Kumiko, who had stopped her complaning, immediatly ran her fingers through her hair, fluttering her eyes in the boys direction. Typical… I thought, that’s Kumiko, always trying to impress any guy she thinks is a hottie… “She took my deck. We were only getting her back.” Kumiko insisted coyly, batting her eyelashes in the newcomers’ direction.
“I don't believe you. If she stole your deck why would you have all your friends join in?” My defender quizzed, sarcasm lacing the rhetorical statement. “Because she stole my deck! I have expensive cards in there!” Kumiko defended, letting her flirtatiously demeanor falter.
“You are lying through your fake teeth.” The teal haired boy said confidently. I thought it was a rather rude thing to say, even if Kumiko was mean already. “Do you know who I am?! I am Kumiko Nazinama! My family is one of the richest and I am the heiress of Nazinama Gaming Corp.”
I decided to add my own piece after her prideful statement “You forgot that you're satans spawn...” I muttered under my breath. The comment had been for none other than myself, but what I thought had gone unheard was actually caught by very keen ears. The teal eyed boy behind me smirked after the words had flown from my mouth. I looked down then felt a sharp pain in my leg.
“Don't you dare talk trash about me!” Kumiko sneered glaring at me with an expression that screamed murder. “She never said anything.” The gentlman behind me defended. Nevertheless, Kumiko ordered me around once again “Stand up.” She ground through her teeth. I stood, teetering from pain, but kept myself in front of her.
“Give. Me. My. Deck.” Kumiko spat, flecks of saliva hitting my cheeks. I pulled from my sweater my personal deck. She grabbed it from my hand digging her sharp manicured nails into my palm.
“Now I have to throw it away since she touched it.” She said icily a pretend pout gracing her lips. I watched dazedly, my arms hanging to my sides hands clenched so tightly they cut the agile flesh beneath my nails. My eyes glazed over as she prepared to drop them in the mud. I recieved a glance from the boy, but I refused to let a tear fall. He was beginning to annoy me with the expression stuck on his face, and I dearly wished he would stop staring.
She won't throw them in the mud. That deck is the only thing that I have that connects me to my family and Africa. I thought frantically, hoping upon all hopes that I was right. “That isn't your deck.” The boy said, finally removing his eyes from my person.
“What ever do you mean Zaney?” Kumiko questioned. How she knew his name was beyond me. With unncany agility, Zane snatched the deck from Kumiko’s hands, and studied it quietly. My eyes grew wide when I saw the purple hair tie that had my initials: K.A.V. carved in a elegant monotype, diamonds marking the end of each letter.
“Your initials aren't K.A.V.” He deduced holding out the band and hanging it inches in front of Kumiko’s face.
“She put that on it to trick you...” Kumiko said, licking her lips. “I don't remember you speaking French.” He smirked, he had won this game. “Hey Zane, why would a loser like her have a deck?” One of the boys in Kumiko’s group asked.
Zane glared at the boy, and said “The only loser is you.”
Kumiko’s eyes began to water. Crocodile tears, she was starting up the water works. “Why are you being so cold? I only tried to make friends.” She sniffed. “Liar.” I spat. My anger had gotten the better of me again. My voice was hardly loud enough to interperet, but Kumiko’s eyes blazed when she heard what I’d said. Zane and the girl beside him glared at her. Kumiko glared back, but kept her eyes on the girl.
“Here.” Zane passed the deck to me. “Merci.” I whispered a thank you in French and took my deck back. Kumiko frowned, sending me glares that could kill. “Kara, get back to the dorm. NOW.” She demanded after a short stare down. “Y-yes.” I stuttered.
This isn' good, this isn’t good at all… I should have just ignored her! Darn her! Why did she feel the need to make my life miserable? “I knew you were the one, you African girls are always so obident.” Kumiko seethed. I had already turned my back, facing my rescurers. A look of fear cascaded over my face, and my eyes were beginning to overflow with tears.
The blonde stared wide eyed at Kumiko. I quickly stepped farther away and almost ran to the dorm. Kumiko was already at the door when I arrived, she obviously knew the area better than I did. She had an angry look plastered on her features..
“I'll deal with you after the welcoming party. Get your lazy self over to the dining hall.” I nodded, not looking into her face, and went to my instucted location.

At the welcoming party…

I didn't talk to anyone, I just sat in a chair outside trying to hold back tears. Tears of anger, tears of sadness. Almost every emotion someone could feel was clouded behind my lavender eyes, and I was begging for them not to come springing to the surface.
“What are you doing out here alone?” Someone asked me, I whirled in my seat, a bit frightened at the unexpected voice. My long hair blew into my face, making it difficult to see. “O-Oh…” I said shyly, my cheeks growing red with embarrasment as I fought with my silver locks. The wind was making it difficult to keep my hair behind my ears. I grew even more frustrated, and a tear rolled down my cheek. I spitefully swiped it away before it could be seen
“Why not just cut it?” The boy asked, amusement lacing his deep voice as he walked closer. I jumped out of my seat and faced the opposite direction of the wind, pulling my hair into a secure ponytail which I held with my left hand. I dug in my sweater pocket and found a hair-tie. “I-it hardly bothers me.” I stuttered, still facing the wind.
I felt the figure move and plant hisself beside me. I turned and examined him, only to find that it was my rescuer from earlier today. “What is your name?” He asked quietly, amusement still in his voice as he saw the look on my face. “K-K-K-Kara Vangeline…” I said with difficulty removing my eyes from him and inching away.
“Why are you out here and not with everyone else?” I stopped my movements at this, and looked off into the sunset. “I'm not much of a party person…” I finally said after a few long minutes. Zane nodded his head gazing into the sunset too.
“Would you care to dance?” He asked after a while of silence. I had been in the middle of making my exit, and his question caught me off guard. He was asking me to dance with him. Did this guy have a screw loose? He smirked at the dumfounded expression upon my face, making me flush. I began to stutter excuses. I couldn’t dance! I never learned how, actually.
“W-well…you see…uh…I d-don’t kn-know how to-” He caught me mid sentence “Dance?” he asked, quirking an eyebrow. For some unknown reason, I felt my stomach flip. The way he looked tempted me to follow him into the dance room, but I couldn’t even make myself speak, much less move.
“It’s simple” He said moving closer to me. I searched for an escape, or someone close to our location, but didn’t find anything. I blushed even more as he neared me, my tongue going dry for reasons I couldn’t explain. He put a hand on my waist, his other hand cradling my own. “Put your free hand on my shoulder…” He continued. My hand almost willing flew to his shoulder even though the command had barely registered in my mind. He smirked at my sudden movements.
I must have looked like a bright red tomatoe. I was blushing furiously and was stiff as a board. He leaned a bit closer, I leaned back, and he whispered in my ear “follow my lead.” He began to move, and my stiff body moved with him. I almost knowingly followed his steps, and when he went to twirl me, I did it without a glitch. So far this dancing thing was going well.

After a few dances…

“Can I ask you something?” Zane asked after he twirled me once again. We were still outside dancing, though our pace had slowed. I had received a few heated glares from Kumiko when she spotted us waltzing in the garden. “Y-yes…” I said, my cheeks still a bit pink.
“Why did you listen to Kumiko? You could have argued back.” I sighed. I dreaded the question. Mostly because I didn't know the answer. I blamed my obident habits. "When I tell you, please don't over-react." I said in a soft voice, the first time I hadn’t stuttered or flushed when I spoke to him. Our dancing had become small steps rotating us in circles. “I won't.” He assured me. I sighed “I'm Kumiko's personal maid.” His head jolted my way even more. "What?" He asked, blinking. He seemed to be having a hard time understanding what I had just said.
“You see....”And that's where I told Zane everything about my adoption and being a maid. I watched his face contort oddly into unkown forms of rage and sorrow as I splurged all my worries onto him. I felt completely empty by the time I had finished, and I was also embarrassed that I had told him just about everything that had happened in my life.
And I cried. That was the worst part of things. Only a few drops had escaped my eyes, and I tried my best to rid them of my cheeks before he saw them, but I couldn’t keep my voice from cracking.
“I knew there was something wrong with Kumiko.” I turned from him. “I-I’m sorry…for…” I sniffed “It doesn’t matter.” He said. I faced him, “It does though! I shared almost my entire life with a complete stranger, and I cried!” I almost shouted at him, throwing my arms up in the air in defeat. “Her whole family is messed up…” I said after he stared at me. I couldn’t read the expression he gave me behind those eyes, but I knew he wasn’t all that freaked out by my outbursts of emotion.
"What are you going to do about it?" He asked after I had sat down on the bench we had ended up sitting at during the middle of my story. “Things have to change… Life sucks, and I'm going to do something about it.” I whispered tucking my face between my hands trying to mask the worry I felt. Zane smirked. "I want her to stop thinking of me as her slave. She shouldn’t control me like I'm a doll."

Zane's POV…

I stared at her even more. Her story seemed almost unbelievable. I was confused, something had always told me that Kumiko wasn’t a very nice girl, but I hadn’t known that she practically had a slave too. I watched Kara sit up and sigh, pulling her sweater even closer to her body. I stood and shed my coat, and placed it on her shoulders. It engulfed her body, and she turned pink again. She stuttered once more, trying to refuse my kind jesture politely “I-I-I’m okay I don-“ I cut her off, “Your cold right?” she looked down and nodded. “Then keep it to warm yourself with. She flushed a darker shade of red. I liked the fact that she blushed so furiously around me, it was rather unique.
An idea popped into my head "But you look like a doll." A brighter color of red ran through her cheeks. I smirked and held out my hand for her to take. She took it and I pulled her to her feet. She looked up at me with her lavender eyes, her long lashes brushing the top of her eyeslids. She stared at me, and I could see myself reflecting in her eyes.
I twirled her one last time, kissed her hand lightly, and left her in the garden. And I headed back to my dorm earlier than I expected.

Kara’s POV…(The next day)
Let me just say that after the party Kumiko has been in a war path. She'd been keeping her distance all day and I was beginning to wonder why. I had finished my classes for the day, and had decided to sit at the base of the large tree in the Obelisk Blue courtyard. I was listening to music and doing some homework.
I wasn't singing very loudly nor to anyone but myself, but I was loud enough to catch the attention of a few people. I immediately stopped singing and slowly stood, gathering my books and papers. I turned to leave the courtyard, and stopped when I noticed the huge crowd that had gathered behind me. “Uh…” was my intelligent reply to the crowd. My things slipped from my arms. Papers got caught in the wind and blew around. My cheeks turned red, and the crowd dispersed leaving me to trail after my papers alone.
I ran about the courtyard, catching the papers blowing around. There were two papers caught in the tangle of brances above my head. I jumped, trying to catch a corner. I couldn’t reach them, so I pulled off my shoes and socks. I looked around, and was relieved to see that everyone had cleared the area. I started climbing the tree. I sat on the branch and pulled myself closer to the two remaing papers. I grabbed them, but when I decided to get off the branch, I realized I was stuck. “Nina!” I whispered. My black bag began to move. “Nina!” I said again. An orange head stuck itself out of my bag and mewed at me. I forgot to mention that I have a friend, and that friend is a miniature tiger. Yes, I know it’s strange, but she is the only friend I have ever really had. “Go get help, Nina…” I said. I decided that she looked enough like a kitten, so she would be able to get me some help.
Nina stepped out of my bag, and romped off into the halls. After a few minutes, I saw her dragging someones bag into the yard. And then I saw a group of people, Ra’s Slifers, and Obelisks chasing after her. I saw the girl from yesterday who had helped me, and then I saw Zane. I pulled my feet up to my chest, and whispered for Nina. “Nina!” I said. Her ears perked at my voice, and she released the bag and ran over to the tree. “Go Nina! Get someone else!” I ordered. She just purred at me, and sat at the base of the tree staring at me with a look of accomplishment. She mewed again, and the crowd of people came over. Maybe they wont see me… I thought. My thought was soon shattered by one of the Slifers. The boy looked up in the tree, and then back at Nina. He had brown hair, and honey colored eyes. “Is this your cat?” He asked looking at me once more. I felt my cheeks heating again. Why did I have to blush whenever I was talked to? Everyone else looked up and I muttered in response “Yes.” The boy looked at me, a little confused. “Why are you up in the tree anyways?” He quizzed some more rubbing his head. “W-well…I’m stuck…” I muttered, my voice barely carrying to my own ears. “What?” he said, I gulped looking at the branch above me and then I spoke again, this time using a stronger voice. “I’m…uh…a bit stuck” I explained. His face immediately changed to one of shock. “Then why did you climb up there?” It was my turn to stare at him, and everyone next to him also stared. Zane smacked him upside the head “Obviously she didn’t do it on purpose nimrod” He said. “Don’t be so mean Zane!” A short aqua-haired boy said. He then looked at the girl next to him who was actually the one who defended me the other day. She was smiling which made me give a small smile in response. “Are you ever out of trouble?” She asked, teasing me lightly. I thought for a minute, and then shook my head. Zane and the brown haired boy smirked. “Well, jump down and I’ll catch you” Zane offered. I flushed, and shook my head so hard my bun came undone. The blonde girl laughed, and then assured me that I would be okay. She didn’t seem to get that I didn’t fear coming down okay, I felt like I was pushing my worries onto a stranger. Nina mewed, and the short boy picked her up. “Your cat misses you, Zane can catch you, so come down.” “W-well…okay…” I said. I closed my eyes, and slid myself off of the branch. I sqeezed my eyes closed even more when I collided with Zanes arms. He caught me easily, and I turned cherry red when he didn’t put me on the ground immediately. I was trembling a bit, and he smirked at me when I tried to pull out of his grip. A second later, I found my feet on solid ground. I stuttered a thank you, and then Nina began to squirm wildly in the aqua-haired boys arms. I began to reach for my tiger, but before the boy could hand her over, she bit him on the hand. I stared in horror, the boy yelped, and I grabbed Nina by the scruff of her neck. “No Nina! That was very rude!” I scolded. Nina looked angrily at me, and I put her on the ground while I dug around in my bag for a bandage. I felt the large white roll slide around in the bottom of my bag, and extracted it. “Dude, Syrus, calm down…” the brown-haired boy said. The boy had begun jumping from foot to foot, staring at the bite marks on his hand and clutching his wrist. I walked over to him, and pulled his arm towards me, dropping my bag. I sighed in relief, the bite wasn’t severe. Nina rumaged around in the abandoned sack, taking out a little black glittery bouncey ball from my bag. “No Nina, you don’t get to play. You don’t bite people.” I scolded again, but she kept playing with the ball. I glared at her, and finished wrapping the boys hand. I put the bandages back in my bag and then reached for the ball.
She also snatched up the ball, thinking that I was playing with her. I tugged on it, and she let me have it. I wasn’t ready for the sudden lack of pull, and lost my grip on the rubbery ball. I flew into the brunettes face, rricocheting off of him, and into Zane’s forehead. “I-I’m sorry!” I said, surprised. I then picked up Nina and held her even though she struggled against my grip. The blonde girl began laughing at the two boys, who now had looks of shock on their faces. She then came over to me, holding out a hand. “I’m Alexis, Alexis Rhodes; it’s nice to meet you.” I took her hand, balancing a struggling Nina in my free arm. “It’s nice to meet you too, uh…th-thank you for helping me the other day.” I said, she nodded and released her grip on my hand so that I could get a better grip on Nina. Alexis proceeded to introduce her friends to me. She pointed to the messy-haired Slifer “This is Jaden, then there is Syrus,” she pointed to the short aqua-haired boy. “Syrus’ brother is Zane.” I blinked in surprise at this. They didn’t really even look related, well; if you looked hard enough they had a few identical features. “And Bastion is in the yellow.” She finished and the said person waved at me. He had dark hair, sleeked back nicely, keeping it out of his face.
I smiled, Zane finished checking his brothers hand, and then he came to look at Nina. “Um…Zane…?” I whispered. “May I see her?” He asked. I robotically held out my arms, handing the orange furball out to him. He let Nina sit in his hands and stared at her. She stopped to stare right back at him, and then she growled. I quickly grabbed her before anything more chaotic could occur and let her sit on my shoulder as I wildly flew about picking up papers and stuffing them in my bag. I would have to organize everything later. While I picked up papers, I began to excuse myself. “I-I’m really sorry she bit y-you, i-if anything needs to be paid for I will gladly pay for it. I r-really should be g-go-going…” I stuttered a tingle of pink spreading across my cheeks. A hand entered my vision, handing me papers. “Thank you” I said. I straightened myself, Nina teetering dangerously on my shoulder. Her claws were sinking into my skin as she gripped harder, trying to keep hold. There was a new addition to the group. “Oh…” I said as I stared at the boy who had given me my papers. He was taller than I was, dressed in the Obelisk boys uniform. He had crow black hair and obsidian eyes. He smirked, and I frowned. The blonde spoke up “Chazz, don’t sneak up on people like that-” “Sorry” he said before Alexis could finish. “Thank you…” I said again, and then I rushed off, not even bothering to wave.

Zane's POV…

Kara ran off, not saying goodbye to anyone in the group, and everyone stared after her. “That was entertaining…” Jaden said. The group began to walk, not really going anywhere, Jaden and Syrus disscussing things I didn’t think were all that important. “So…” Alexis began, “I heard from my friends that you and Kara had a fun time last night.” She finished. Everyone gawked, except Alexis of course, and I groaned inwardly. Now I was expected to explain myself.

Chloe's POV…

I ran down the hall, unsure of where I was going. A few more steps and I entered a large room filled with empty seats and tables. Maybe I could do my work in here. I sat at the table in the corner, and began organizing my papers. Nina jumped off my shoulder and swatted at the papers I placed in a stack. I didn’t particularly mind her playfulness, but she was supposed to be in trouble since she bit someone.
After an hours worth of good work, I heard shoes clicking into the same room I was in. I didn’t lift my head, I just kept working on my assignments. But the sound became clearer, and before I knew it, Nina was growling at the person standing against the wall. I told Nina to hush and be nice, but she proceeded to growl. The growling grew louder when the person on the wall stepped closer.
I finally lifted my face from my work. Zane stood above me, staring down at Nina as she stared back and the hairs on the back of her neck began to stand. Her teeth bared, she growled harder and backed up next to my elbow. Zane pulled something out of his pocket, tossing it in front of Nina who jumped at the sound it made. She sniffed it as I held my breath, her eyes still locked on Zane.
Her growls stopped and she picked up the object in her mouth, leaping gracefully to the floor and romping to the corner with the parcel of meat. She lay down next to the plant in the corner. Zane smirked, obviously happy with himself. “H-Hi…sorry for that…” I said, a blush creeping onto my cheeks. For some odd reason, this guy made me blush ninety times more than I usually did.
“Your cat is quite aggressive” Zane said taking the chair next to mine. Nina stopped chewing on her new toy, and glared at Zane. Zane put his hands in the air, and Nina resumed tearing apart the bone. “Yeah…she’s just protective…” I said “And she isn’t really a cat…” Zane quirked a brow in question. The action made me blush though, he looked…enticing when he did that. He was still smirking and I finished my sentence. “She’s a miniature tiger…” I averted my eyes, and let him mull it over on his own.
“What are you planning to do about your situation?” He asked, throwing me off.
I shrugged. I hadn't thought of what to do about Kumiko. But I did know one thing, I would probably have to pay my way out of her claws.
“I'm going to have to pay my way out. I have money in a savings account. But I don’t have anywhere to stay… I’ll have to find someone to stay with. At least until I can actually come up with a place of my own.” I was finally able to look at him without blushing wildly now, all those classes I had with him had ensured that. He sat in the chair across from me, arms folded across his chest as he listened to my idea.
“Will she let you walk freely if you pay?” He asked. That was something I had overlooked, but I thought for a minute and found my answer a bit disheartening. “Well…probably not… It's probably going to get me killed but, it’s worth a try…” I smiled, Zane chuckeld a bit too, and suddenly I felt a little less lonely. “I have a feeling that I will be able to do this…” I said. He unfolded his arms and leaned on the table, our faces just inches apart now.
“If you need any help, just ask me. I have money too, and I don’t particularly believe in personal slaves.” He almost whispered. I nodded my head slowly, my tongue having gone numb from the sudden change in his voice. It sounded almost threatening. I barely noticed that our fingers were touching, and before I could say anything else, he stood. “I’ll see you at dinner” He said and began to walk away. Something popped into my head just then, and I blurted out my thought. “I s-still have your jacket…do you want me to bring it to dinner to return?” He looked back at me, and nodded his head. I sat for a few stunned minutes, scolding myself for blushing so horribly. It seemed I still needed more practice in that area of my life. I gathered my belongings and whistled for Nina. She jumped in my bag and I left the room.

In the dorm…

“Oh Kara....” Kumiko called in mock sweetness as she opended the door to our room.
I ignored her, almost regretting it afterwards. “I called your name!” She screeched and I continued what I was doing. She stomped into the closet, where I had inevitably been assigned in for my room.
“If you don’t come here this second I’ll tell daddy!” She threatened I stared at her then. She was already right in front of me, so I saw no need to close the one inch gap in front of us. “I'm calling him.... He's on speed dial.” Her manicured fingers tapped the green button, calling her father within seconds. I thought that maybe what I was doing was stupid, but I felt I had to be freed of Kumiko. And now was the perfect time to do that.
“It's ringing.” She informed me, to which I didn’t respond. Her face contorted angrily and then she spoke into the phone. “Daddy!” She whined “Kara isn’t obeying me! She won't listen to me an- what?!” She screeched. I jumped at her outburst and she continued screaming into the reciever. “Who?,” some whispers I couldn’t make out came from the cellular device. “I wont allow this! She is my maid, and I wo-” she was cut off, and then she whined into the reciever about not having enough help with her daily activities.

Half an hour later…

I was stunned. After Kumiko had gotten off the phone with her father, she informed me that I had been assigned my own dorm, and that I was no longer in her families service. She didn’t have an explanation as to why, but I was dumfounded. I had heard a few statements that had piqued my interest, and I was now determined to discover how exactly I had been freed of my servitude.
I also wanted to know how I had so quickly been granted a room in Obelisk Blue. I had been called to the office after I had taken my belongings to my new room, and was headed there now. I walked down the halls, Nina trailing behind me. I would let her run about when there weren’t many people in sight, but right now I didn’t particularly care if the whole of Duel Academy was watching. I reached Chancellor Shepard’s door. I put Nina back into my bag before I took a deep breath and knocked.
A voice boomed from the other side of the door, willing me to enter. I turned the large brass knob and slid into the room. “Ah! Just who we were discussing! Please, come and sit!” Chancellor Shepard motioned me to a seat beside the large couch in front of him. Two people sat on the couch, I didn’t recognize either of them, but I took my seat with a greatful bow.
“Kara, do you know why I have called you down to my office today?” I went to reply, but he cut me off, answering the question for me. “Of course you don’t! But I have some news for you!” He pointed at the couple on the couch. One of then had wild hair that stuck up at different angles, red hair traced black hair and platinum blonde bangs commented his crimson eyes. The woman had thick black hair that trailed to her waist, her eyes a jade green.
“This is Yugi Moto, and his wife Kaori. They have adopted you!” He finished. I blinked and shook my head, “I-I’ve already been adopted, I don-” Yugi talked this time “Well, it may be a bit confusing, but the school likes to do background checks on everyone attending. And when they came across your file, the school board disagreed with your servitude to the Nazinamas. So they had it fixed…”
My eyes started to water, the story barely making sense. As his words slowly began to sink in, his wife spoke “We wanted to adopt a child, and when we entered the adoption agency, our assistant informed us of your situation. You seemed the most needful of this opportunity, so we signed the papers.” I lowered my head, not wanting them to see the expression on my face.
I was beyond gleeful that they had done this, but I was wondering if I might have fallen asleep. I looked up at the Moto’s, who were looking at each other with worried grimaces. “You’re not just saying this…right?” I asked, a tear escaping my eye and trailing down my cheek. My bag moved on my lap, and Nina poked her head out to mew at me. She was at least good at comforting people even if she was ill tempered.
The Moto’s faces cheered up immediately at the sound of hope in my voice, and the woman shook her head. “We really did adopt you.” She whispered, getting teary-eyed herself. I sighed heavily, closing my eyes as a few more tears fell from my eyes. I smiled then, and opened my eyes once more. “Th-Thank you!” I said, my voice cracking. Nina finally made herself known to all, licking my nose. I grabbed her and looked her in the eye. “Nina,” I said, “we finally have a home!”

An hour later…

It was unfortunate that I had only had an hour to speak with my new parents, but they had assured me that they would visit again soon. We had discussed my life so far, which wasn’t really much, and they told about themselves also. The Chancellor had informed me that Kumiko and her Father had been arrested, but I told them that I didn’t think Kumiko should be in trouble for what her father had been doing for years. I explained that Kumiko hadn’t been…as nice as she should have, but I couldn’t really blame her for turning out the way she had. She didn’t exactly have the best example to follow.
When I asked why Kumiko’s father had been arrested, I was informed that he had been illegally selling confidential information to enemies of his company. I had the strangest desire that Kumiko be given a better place to live instead of staying with her father. I knew that she had been crappy to me all those years, but it didn’t seem to matter to me anymore. I actually felt extremely sorry for the predicament her father had placed her in.
My new parents asked about how I had come across my pet, and I explained that Nina had been born after a series of genetically alltered tigers. The gene that the genetic engineers had placed in her grandparents made the generation after them miniatures. The gene ultimately became permanent, and a few years later Nina was born. The scientists had determined that they were no more dangerous than house cats, and so a few of the felines were put up for sale once the experiment had been completed.
Kumiko had been searching for pets at the time, and came across a picture of the orange tigers. She insisted that her father buy her the whole liter, but she finally accepted that she would only get two. When the cats had arrived, she kept one of them. The other one was too aggressive for her, and she ignored it. I had eventually bonded with Nina after many bites and scratches, but she was genuinely mine from that day forward.
I began to walk to my new dorm, thinking about all the wonderful things I could do now that I was able. I had been given the document that declared my adoption to the Moto’s, and I was going to show Zane as soon as I could.
I arrived at my door and entered my room. I had to get down to the mess hall, or there wouldn’t be any seats left for me. I grabbed Zane’s jacket, and stuffed the document in my hands into my bag. Nina was on my head, and then I exited the room, locking it behind me. I then made my way to the dining room.

At dinner…

I entered the mess hall and looked around for someone I might know. I stood at the doorway, feeling a bit out of place when I couldn’t recognize anyone, and proceeded farther into the crowd of Obelisk Blue students. I got some dinner on my plate, some chicken, rice, and curry. I took a seat near a corner of the cafeteria, so that I could see everyone who entered or exited the room. Nina took some of the meat off my plate, but I didn’t mind since food wasn’t on the front of my mind.
My brain was still wrapped around what had occurred just an hour ago. I began to mix the rice on my plate with some curry flavored sauce, and felt a presense next to my shoulder. When I turned two boys were standing over me. I blushed and looked down at my food and they each took that as a welcoming to sit down beside me. I now had a boy on either side of me, and one of them had staddled the bench to have a better view of me.
“Hey Miroku, I think this little mouse needs some friends…doncha doll face?” I suddenly felt very unsafe. My blush darkened, and I almost dropped my chopsticks. I shook my head frantically, but the boy on my other side made me more uncomfortable by brushing my hair behind my ear. I pulled away instantaneously and Nina began to growl. I placed a hand on her head, not wanting her to bite anyone else. She gave the boy a glare of warning, and jumped off the table, rushing off into the wave of people.
I stood, using Nina as an excuse to get away from the boys, and trotted after her. The boys followed me and I ran into the hallway. “We can help you find your kitty…” the boy who had touched my hair offered, his voice a bit too sincere. “N-no, that’s not ne-necessarie, I can fin-” the taller of the two grabbed my hand. He squeezed my wrist and pushed me against the wall. “L-let go!” I yelped feebly. He just pushed me harder against the wall, “Oh c’mon babe, I won’t hurt you…y’know, I noticed you when you came into class the other day, and I know you saw me too.” he began “So don’t tell me you wanna leave so soon.” My face was red with anger and embarrasement now.
I tried to pull away from him, stuttering my desire for him to let go of me, but he pushed his body against mine. I squoze my eyes shut, “Oh c’mon, I know you like it…” he trailed off and I felt cool lips rub against my neck. I squirmed frantically, beating my free hand against his chest, he pushed my hand away and pinned it to the wall. He continued his kisses further down my neck.
I was close to tears and wanted more than anything to get Away. I knew if I made a noise, most likely screamed, someone was bound to hear. The only thing that held me at bay was that I just couldn’t find my voice. He reached my collarbone, my heart started pounding painfully in my chest. He pushed the fabric away with his nose and then licked the bone underneath.
My eyes widened as he bit the agile skin which caused me to find my voice “N-No!” I screamed I pulled my hand out of his grasp and swung it at his face. It collided with his jaw with a large slap, and he released me with a growl of frustration. I started to run, unaware of where I was going, but in dire need to get away from my pursuer. He ran after me, sprinting to catch my retreating form.
I turned a corner and ran headlong into my attackers friend. The boy grabbed my hair and twisted it painful at the scalp preventing me from escaping. I was guided down a hall way, my hair still clutched in the boys grasp, and ushered into a closet.

Zane’s POV…

The cafeteria was crowded with Obelisk blue students, and it was hard to find and empty seat. Alexis had luckily saved me a seat, as I knew she would, and I took it gratefully. I waited for a few minutes and then stood in line to get my food, Alexis following me. “So, are you going to tell me what you and Kara did the other night, or am I going to have to keep pestering you?” She smirked. I ignored her and proceeded to get my food.
I went back to our seat, Alexis on my heels. She was beginning to be worse than any little sister he had ever had. Well, he hadn’t had any, but he imagined it wouldn’t be as difficult as Alexis was. She plopped herself beside me, giving me a knowing smile and turned to her friends.
I had only eaten two bites when an orange object jumped onto the table in front of me. Jade green eyes stared at me and then the cat mewed. I put down my utensils “What?,” I asked, “I don’t have any more chew toys for you.” She took my sleeve in her mouth and tugged. I pulled away and she jumped over to Alexis.
Alexis jumped at the cats presense, and then patted her on the head. Nina grasped Alexis’s forearme gently and tugged. Alexis looked confusedly at the cat, the other girls admiring how pretty it was and how much it resembled a tiger. She slowly turned her head towards me and said “I think we should follow her…” Nina let go when she said that and jumped off the table. Alexis and I abandoned our meal and chased after her, trying keep up with the fast creature.
She ran out of the dining room and stopped. She sniffed around, but didn’t seem to find what she was looking for. “I think she just wanted to play a game…” I said. Alexis shook her head, and before she could say anything else, we heard someone scream from a distance not too far from our own location.
Nina started running wildly towards the sound, Alexis and I chasing after her. We lost the cat when she turned down a three way hall, but soon heard scratching and wild mewing coming from our left.

Kara’s POV…

I sceamed and thrashed in their grips, kicking and flailing around wildly. I began to fear for my life, and thrashed harder until the boys pushed me into the corner of the closet. “Oh c’mon babe! We just wanted to have a little fun…” one of the culprits said, having difficulty breathing. The door behind them swung open, and Nina ran between my capturers. She stood before them, a large growl rumbling from her throat, and her hair standing on end.
Alexis and Zane stepped into the room, and Alexis pointed at the two boys. “I am reporting both of you to the Chancellor immediately, you had better come with us!” She demanded. The boys stared, shocked that they had been discovered, and then looked at Zane. Zane looked angry and he glared daggers at the two boys before him. Though the boys were just a few inches shorter than Zane, they decided it best to come quietly. Well, almost quietly, there were mutters of anger.
Alexis came over to me, and looked at the shocked grimace on my face. I was shaking uncontrolably and she offered me a hand. I took it and tried to stand, but I couldn’t find the strength to do so, nor were my legs going to cooperate with me. “Zane you might have to carry her, she seems too out of it to walk herself, and she can’t stop shaking.” Zane just nodded his head and proceeded to pick me up. I shook my head, barely noticeable with my quivering, and tried to find my voice again.
Neither understood my unintelligable ramblings of ‘I can walk’ and so they just said ‘your welcome’ in reply. We walked to the Chancellors office and entered the room without even knocking. My new parents were still on the couch, speaking with the Chancellor, or more like being spoken to by him.
During the trip to the office, I had burried my face into Nina’s fur, the situation sinking in much too quickly for my liking. “Wha-Kara? Kara what’s wrong sweetie?” Kaori asked. I felt her cool hand touch my forehead, and then the soft fabric of the couch underneath my body.
Zane had placed me between Yugi and Kaori. I pulled my face from Nina’s back only to bring worried looks to my new parents. Zane and Alexis began to explain what had happened, they had forced the answers from the two boys as we had walked towards the office. Kaori slid an arm around my shoulders and tried to comfort me, I looked up at her and she smiled back wearily, trying to comfort me. This was probably the single most child like I had ever felt, and it was a wonderful feeling after what had just occurred.
Chancellor shepard suspended the boys for a month, and ordered them to perform twenty-five hours of community service. Zane and Alexis stayed until punishment was dealt and even offered to take me to my dorm. I said goodbye to my new parents again, even giving Kaori a hug. I didn’t feel as close to Yugi, but that might have been because it took a longer time for fathers and daughters to bond. I didn’t really know, but I felt comfortable around the two of them either way.
Alexis supported me, holding my arm as we wandered down the dimmly lit halls. I was still a little wobbly and rigid, but able to use my legs once more. Zane was holding Nina, who had fallen asleep, a dazed look on his face. Halfway to my dorm I felt I could walk by myself and Alexis allowed me to, keeping close in case I fell. A minute after that, and Alexis was called on her PDA to help Ms. Fontaine set up a new exercise program. She apologized, and rushed ahead of us to get her job done.
Zane still walked me to my dorm, even though boys weren’t allowed in the women’s dorm. When we reached the door, my black bag and Zane’s coat hung from the knob, and I handed Zane his coat.
He held it as I pulled my key out of my bag and tried to slide it into the lock. My hands were still shaking too much for me to get the skinny devise into the lock though. Zane’s hand suddenly grasped my own, taking the key from my grip and opening the door for me. I blushed and he swung the door open into darkness. I quickly entered the room and flicked on the light, turning around and taking Nina from his grip. I quickly laid her on the pillow and then turned back to Zane.
“Well,” I said, “I owe you another thank you, don’t I?” He nodded his head, and I looked him in the eye this time. “Thank you,” I breathed, “for everything…” He nodded his head again, and pushed the door shut. I looked at him, shocked and confused. He swung the rolling chair out from under the desk and plopped onto it. “Sit.” Was all he said. I robotically sat and stared at him as he thought with his eyes closed. “Are you going to tell me anything about what happened?” he asked finally, and I looked at him quizically.
A second later, my brain told me some vital information. I quickly pulled the document from earlier out of my pocket and handed it to him. “The school board didn’t like the fact that I was a servant to the Nazinama’s, so they had me listed in the local adoption agency. I was adopted shortly after.” I finished. I left out the part about Kumiko and her father. Zane stared at the document for a moment longer and then placed it on the table.
He nodded his head again and stood. I stood as well, and he walked closer to me. I didn’t budge, even when he flipped the piece of ripped fabric away from my collarbone. He frowned and walked into the bathroom. I stared after him, awkwardly dancing on my toes and wondering what he was doing. He came out with a first aid kit and a fluffy white washcloth.
I looked in the mirror on my desk and noticed my appearance. My uniform was ripped in several places, my hair sticking out at odd angles, and the skin beneath the cloth Zane had pushed from my collar revealed bloody teeth marks. I hadn’t noticed that the boy had bitten me to the point that I bled, I had been more preoccupied by my desire to get away.
Zane turned me around and pressed the washcloth against my skin, it strung from the peroxide he had poured on it, but I knew it was removing germs. He pulled the cloth away after a few seconds and pressed a square bandage on the wound. “Why didn’t you run away?” He asked, putting away the kit. “I…I tried to, but they were too fast for me…” I trailed off and he put the kit in the bathroom.
I didn’t mind if he quizzed me all night, I didn’t want to me alone tonight, I wanted to feel secure and safe. Zane came out of the bathroom and picked up his coat, wandering to the door. I was surprised to find my body move without my saying, but I grabbed his sleeve and stopped him before he had even turned the knob.
He slightly turned his head and looked at me from the corner of his eye. I gulped and looked down, flushing as I did. “Do-don’t leave…I…don’t want to be alone tonight…” I breathed and let go of him. He didn’t move, so I backed away, not lifting my head but letting him go if he wanted. He sighed and turned towards me.
“As long as no one knows, I don’t see whats wrong with me staying.” He said and I gasped in surprise. He chuckled and moved to sit on the bed. “You should probably wash up. I can wait if you want to take a shower.” I nodded and rushed into the bathroom as soon as I had pulled my things out of my suitcase. I turned the water to a warm setting and stepped into the soothing liquid. I let the water cascade over my body, soaking into my pores.
I washed my hair and scrubbed my body quickly but thoroughly before turning off the water and drying myself off. I dressed and towled my hair, exiting the bathroom afterwards. Zane still sat in the same spot on the bed, Nina now being scratched behind the ears and purring contedely. I sat down next to Nina and scratched her chin gently before standing and placing my dirty clothes in the hamper.
“Thank’s for staying.” I said while crawling into the center of the bed. I grabbed a pillow and hugged it, rubbing my cheek against it’s satiny surface. Zane stopped petting Nina and came closer to the pillows, grabbing one and stuffing it between his arm and head. I looked at Zane for a minute “I’ll turn off the lights…” I whispered. He sat up again and pulled off his shoes and jacket before I switched off the lights.
I walked back to the bed, tripping on the leg of the chair Zane had left in the center of the room. I grumbled and climbed onto the bed, the blankets being thrown over me as I did. Zane chuckled at me, making my face flush again. His deep voice sounded inches from my face. “I can’t keep my eye off you, can I?” he asked with amusement. “I don’t know about that…” I said, almost lying to myself. I was a target for trouble and I knew it.
“Zane?” I asked. “Yes?” he replied. “Ho-Why…did you stay?” He didn’t say anything for a minute, but scooted closer to me and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him. “I think you caught my interest…” he whispered in my ear. I never realized before how wonderful he smelt. He smelled like pine and rain after spring in the mountains. It was a scent that sent me into another world.
His statement suddenly sunk in after the shock of being this close to him disapeared, and I reached up to his face. He didn’t flich away, but let me study his flawless features. I could see the color in his eyes, the moon throwing dim light across his face. My fingers lightly brushed his upper lip, he gently took hold of my hand and kissed it. I let my hand fall from his grasp again, and brought it back to his head, this time combing my fingers through his hair.
He leaned against my shoulder, and kissed the bandage. I shivered, he kissed my neck and then my chin. He stopped, pulling me closer and reaching a hand to my face. He gently cupped my cheek “Can I… kiss you?” he asked softly. I slowly nodded. He slowly closed the gap between our lips and kissed the sides of my mouth before settling his lips onto my own. He tenderly pulled away, but came back a second later. I let him lead, and kissed back willingly. He gently nibbled my bottom lip, and I opened my mouth. His tongue plunged into my mouth, and he teased me with it until I complied and teased him back. I explored every crevice of his mouth, my tongue exploring his and trying to mark a permanent place in my memory for how he tasted. My mind was so concetrated on the kiss, I didn’t realize that I had started crying.
Zane pulled away, panting for breath, and felt the warm tears on my cheek. “I shouldn’t have done that, I apolo-” I didn’t let him finish though. Instead I leaned close to his face again and kissed him this time. I wanted to explore his mouth a little while longer. He didn’t open his mouth when I nibbled, but instead he chuckled in his throat. He was toying with me. I bit his bottom lip a bit harder, and he finally let me in.
I let my mind go on autopilot as I tried to remember how soft his lips were, and how his hair moved beneath my fingertips. I pulled away this time, both of us gasping for breath. He kissed my forehead “we should get some sleep…” He whispered, I nodded, snuggling into his chest. I listened to his heartbeat, and drifted slowly to sleep in his arms.
